Out of interest, how many out of the list have you played? Many like LittleBigPlanet, Journey, flow, Valkyria Chronicles, Heavy Rain and Demon's Souls feel very different to what was already out there. It would be very hard to argue that these are reskins; the gameplay is really rather unique. Also, regarding Skyward @Blade, I acknowledge they added motion controls but for me it's very hard to argue it was a huge shakeup to the series, or even that it made the series feel fresh. I mean, on a general playthrough what you were actually doing was pretty identical to previous games. You get your sidekick, you go into a dungeon, go through the whole small key/dungeon item/boss key/boss/heart container spiel. Grab many of the same pieces of equipment (with some new additions), get the extra bottles, nab the Master Sword after a few earlier dungeons... props to them laying off Ganondorf though. Turning the sword in the direction that aligns with the chink in the shield just wasn't going to make everything else seem fresh. :/ Reasonably enjoyable? Sure. But it kinda feels like you're going through the motions with this series now. As I say, I would love either new IPs or Resi 4 style shakeups (or perhaps even less dramatic, but a shakeup nonetheless) to take place. Something that makes you really excited to be a gamer again. Yep. I think some people are obviously happy with Nintendo's output, whereas some want more new stuff to go alongside it. Neither view is really wrong.

I know opinion forms a great part of what wows you, but at the end of the day it's hard to argue that most of Nintendo's big hitters are serialised, whereas elsewhere a lot of the big hitters were new to that generation. Even if they have become somewhat serialised now as a result of their popularity. If you like Nintendo games a lot more then obviously continue to praise them. It's just for me, I'm looking for old and new, with a particular emphasis on new on account of me getting slightly more bored with specific franchsises with each release. On a slight tangent, Resi 4 was like the perfect thing for me. They took a franchise, ripped up what it was and made something brilliant and new with the characters, theme (somewhat) and a few other things left in. That's what I think so many series could benefit from!

I would have to say out of that, Galaxy was the only one that delivered a true wow for me. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying this, but I didn't find Skyward Sword particularly inspired, rather quite annoyingly latching onto the flavour of the generation that happened to be motion controls. The gameplay remained mostly unchanged but with motion input to defeat enemies and control the bird. If other people really liked motion controls then their opinion may well be different, but for me this wasn't enough to create a totally new experience. And it felt lacking in other areas too (particularly the overworld and characters). I don't doubt Smash and Mario Kart will be good games, but they are essentially going to be more of the same. Which is fine, but I don't see Nintendo delivering at least as much new stuff to go with it. Nintendo very much feels these days 'when will Zelda/Mario/Smash number X be released' rather than 'what will they do next?'

I don't get why you keep comparing current Nintendo games to Uncharted and the like. Uncharted is a somewhat formulaic sequel generator just like Zelda or Mario is to Nintendo. Never have I implied otherwise - this is you having formed another argument over a point that you believe I have made, but haven't. The new types of games aren't going to be Uncharted 4; those will likely be the sequels. The fresh game types that I was getting at that came out on PS3 were Demon's Souls, Journey, flow, LittleBigPlanet, Valkyria Chronicles, Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls and to some extent The Last of Us. And at least in their first/earlier iterations you have Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted and Infamous (as in, before they became serialised). So it's not hard to see the point I'm getting at here - most of the big hitters on the PS3 were new for that generation. Most of Nintendo's big hitters these days are games that very closely mimic earlier releases, many of which were released a number of generations ago. Their games tend to be a lot more conserved, and while I don't think they're bad games, I think they do need to bring more new games and IP to the table, give some games/franchises a rest and attempt to redeliver that 'wow' factor like they did back in the 64 days. Which I appreciate is more difficult in this age, but they should still try. I'd also like to point out that you saying someone is 'like a fucking child' does exactly the opposite of what you're trying to achieve.

Right, ok. You're not trolling at all. Because I totally said all games should be new experiences, because I said I am buying a PS4 purely for Infamous, because you didn't just cause a lengthy argument about what I meant when I said 'now'. I mean, what the fuck? What is your problem here, really? My original point was clear - I believe Nintendo were making groundbreaking games back on the N64 - Mario 64, Ocarina, Super Smash, Mario Kart (in 3D form). These were games that pushed all boundaries. Now I expect sequels to games and will enjoy them, but I also expect new ideas and the shaking up of the formula every now and again. I think Nintendo now rely too heavily on preestablished game designs when making sequels and, while these sequels are sound, don't excite in the same way as when you play that kind of game for the first time. It's about striking up a balance between old and new - and the new being awesome and exciting, too. And I don't believe they have that balance anymore.

Well jeal right now, heh.
-
Dude, the discussion ends when the person trolls, not when someone calls them out for it. Well, not that it was much of a discussion anyway. What is NAOWWW!!
-
Good lord, can you please stop being so thoroughly unpleasant? Why do you have to always make it personal? I'm getting the PS4 for several games. But the first game I'm getting with it is Infamous (and the games I've accrued on Plus).
-
Now - at the moment,*at present,*just now,*right now,*at the present time,*at the present moment,*at this time,*at this moment in time, currently,*here and now (Google definition) I am genuinely in awe at how you could possibly interpret that as 'in the last 5 years', or that you're even making a deal of this. Real classy to call me a nob and tell me why I'm apparently buying a PS4, though. I swear, can't you ever keep it civil?
-
By now I mean now. Pretty clear what I meant, really. And why is that a desire? Can't tell if serious. You want to keep playing roughly the same game over and over again? I'm not saying all consoles aren't guilty of that, but aside from the Wii_ range (which has now gone out of fashion), they didn't bring anywhere near the same level of new IP to the table as some other consoles. Also 'you're getting a PS4 purely for Infamous'. Do not troll so weakly. Of course I'm not.
-
Nintendo changing used to be the norm though - Mario 64 was groundbreaking, Zelda OoT was groundbreaking, Smash was something very new and cool. Now their games are mostly derivative, polished versions of earlier games. There's only so long you can rehash before people tire.
-
Why should they have respect for the Wii U? Nintendo have long run with the 'join us if you want' mentality with a view that third party games are there as an accompaniment to their first party lineup. They didn't even care to ask other devs what they wanted out of their new console when designing it. They frankly didn't give a fuck, and ended up with a console nobody wanted to develop for. D'em chickens, d'ey be roostin'. Also, why do you care so much if I remark negatively about Nintendo? Is your life so centred around a company that any negativity towards it comes back to you? I just don't get why you fly off the handle every time I make a negative comment about Nintendo. Nintendo are doing much wrong these days so it's not surprising they get a lot of criticism. Exactly this. The gamepad solves absolutely nothing in terms of menu management, apart from Wind Waker as the boat could automatically continue to sail while you sifted through the map/menus. And let me just say, as it sounds like there are a lot of people here who are not familiar with the game; nobody is going to be doing much menu management while in an area with enemies. You will die. Serious menu management will be for the hub world.
-
Masses of menus? It's really not difficult to understand at all, and seems to have been blown out of all sense of proportion. That image is only daunting for a second until you level up once and understand what all of it means. There's no point dumbing it down when people will generally buy the game because they've heard how awesome it is anyway.
-
To be honest, any developer could legitimately laugh at the idea of bringing anything to the Wii U right now.
-
So I accidentally had my delivery address set to home (Cheshire) instead of here (London). Fgfgf I must be the only person trolled by this game without having even played it.
-
If they had guessed right with the poor online infrastructure/features a couple of generations ago, why is the Wii U failing? It's not a guess; it's a certainty. They have neglected what their fans want, in terms of online/power/price/relations with third party devs. They reap what they sow. Also, regarding image - if you're producing a console, you very much care what people think about it. If they think it's lagging behind the competition in fundamental areas then of course they're not going to support it.
-
I prefer the Vita version because I can touch the main screen while still looking at it. :p
-
This has nothing to do with the potential short term gains or losses from focusing far greater on online features in their games/console. It's their image. This is about making their games and therefore their console relevant to the modern gamer. At the moment it's a farce. PS4 gamers are up over X1 gamers (compared to the edge 360 had over PS3 last gen), showing that people will switch their console of choice. In fact, all you need is something amazing like Monster Hunter or Phantasy Star Online and you can have your own micro population of fans.
-
@Pestneb I don't see how you can argue they might be making the right choice. They are clearly making the wrong choice. Their fans want it, the industry wants it - and they don't deliver. Whether it costs them more money or not to ramp up their online presence is irrelevant. It is a basic and highly demanded feature - without it, they are sending a clear message that they are not adapting to the present.
-
The rest of the game has much better level design than NSMB too. With the 2D Mario games it feels like they're just reusing level themes, designs and segments from the series. Desert, snow, poison, battleship, ghost house. Fuck that shit. It's poor show.
-
Please, pass the crack.
-
I should also say, if you die again before getting back to your bloodstain then your souls will be gone.
-
If you can't afford it right now then I'd pass on it. But one thing I'll say, it's unlikely to get much cheaper any time soon. The price point is perfect for what it is.
