How much are Microsoft paying you?
-
It might be worth extending the warranty if you can. My Sony 43" TV which I bought just under 3 years ago developed these strange white constantly lit up areas that seemed to get bigger that eventually were really quite visible on lighter backgrounds. I had a John Lewis 5 year warranty and since they didn't have the same model anymore (with a satellite connection) they gave us an upgraded model which was new (this one is 48" now).

The Pro does not do true 4K for everything; they use some techniques to improve visuals with a resolution that is still far above 1080p but below 4K. What they have done seemed to really impress Digital Foundry who attended the event, to the point that I think they've probably done the right thing (aiming for that £349 price tag).

It's what I do. I'd rather not link my game content with Facebook.
-
You can set it so it doesn't do that, or use a fake facebook account.

People are complaining that it's doesn't have an ultra HD Blu Ray player.
-
Just watching (/listening to) the video you posted now Hero. Mind-blowingly good...there's always something special about Final Fantasy music. I love how they keep mixing Prelude into their tracks these days (like in one of the battle pieces in FFXIV...probably my favourite battle music). Check it ahhht:

IMO the complaints about UHD Blu Ray can be compared to backwards compatibility. Backwards compatibility is something a select number of people are very vocal about wanting to the point you would think it is a huge demand or draw; when in reality, it really isn't. I would guess that a huge proportion of people complaining about this omission won't be going out of their way to buy UHD Blu Rays for a very long time. I doubt UHD Blu Ray is going to be a major draw for most or a major reason to choose a console. I reckon if they included one then you'd be looking closer to 399 quid than 349, which would probably make this an even harder sell. At the current price, it's perfect.

As far as we know, Scorpio is not a hard refresh. Most new games will apparently work on both X1 and Scorpio. To not do that would be very silly, given that this is the path Sony has taken and that it helps keep your customers on your brand. So in that sense, it's not a real new generation. There are also other incentives to stay with the brand...for instance, annual subscriptions mean most people aren't going to buy both Xbox and PS consoles. So if you're going to pick one console mid generation, do you buy the console that still lets you play with your existing friends (many of whom won't upgrade since no 4K TV/don't want to) as well as play your existing games, or buy the competitor consoles and start from nothing? The choice is very obvious - you stick with what you're with. Chances are you're with that brand because you like the particular games they get for their console anyway. It really is. Not sure why Ronnie places so much stock in what they think.
-
It plays all X1 games, so the statements I made (ability to play with X1 friends, existing games library) apply just the same to Scorpio. Again, the consoles at the start of this generation could not do this.
-
It was a new generation and a fresh slate with the PS4/X1, perfect time to jump ship. The Pro/Scorpio are a continuation of a generation so people still have access to all their existing games and contacts if they upgrade but their friends don't. It makes it much more enticing to stay with the same brand than at the start of a new generation.
-
Why get anything? There's always something better if you wait long enough or pay more. If you were a PC gamer you would literally never buy anything as a new range of graphics cards come out every year.
-
A very, very good point. Zelda's ability to be a system seller is clearly extremely compromised by the game's release on Wii U as well. It needs other games to do most the work or a gimmick.
-
I honestly don't get how you walked away not understanding what they were saying. They couldn't have been more clear explaining what the features meant to people who may not have known much/anything about them. As they are features they can obviously not faithfully show visually, their explanation was the next best thing. I think to people without an agenda, it was pretty clear indeed.
-
You could say the same about HD when it was new though - impossible to get across directly to people on non-HD sets, but they can still simulate the magnitude of benefit by showing 'downgrades' on current tech. You see this on TV adverts a lot (e.g. Sky) trying to show you the level of improvement with new tech by showing you really nice images vs crap ones (when they were trying to push Sky HD). You can sort of simulate 4K by showing a 1080p image vs a same-size image with 4 times fewer pixels. I think they did a good job explaining the upgrade, and if they can convince the people who were there like Digital Foundry to tell you it's a massive improvement then I can see that convincing people to get one.
-
Was just going to post this. It really does sound like a stellar upgrade. Almost certainly can't buy a decent 4K TV for a while though as planning for our wedding next year...

Let's revisit this 'reaction' after Christmas. Sony gonna clean up.
-
X1 S is no threat at all, no more than the original X1 ever has been to Sony. It's just an X1, whereas the Neo is an actual upgrade (so the feather, the cap, the bling and the heels). Regarding damage to 4K TV sales - as long as the Pro plays games in 4K, people will still have a reason to buy a 4K TV. It's not like that matters much though anyway, as anyone buying a new TV today for whatever reason will most likely be buying 4K as it's becoming a standard. UHD blu ray is a nice thing to have but I seriously doubt many people care about it right now. I bet they are making more by leaving it out. 349 is a sweet spot and they know full well that number did it for them previously. A massive lead on the competition and a great price can really seal it for them.
-
I should think Nintendo will be bricking it, actually; Sony have managed to produce a considerably more powerful console for an attractive £349 and in time for Christmas. It will be a hard sell for Nintendo given their next console is sub-base X1 spec.
-
I honestly don't think this omission will have an impact at all. People like to exaggerate about things that matter to them without realising how their views do not in any way align with most other people. Christmas will roll around and Sony will clean up. You know it will happen, I know it will happen. The competition have no hardware planned whatsoever before this Christmas. It's so obvious it's unreal. I would be surprised if even 5% of gamers would base a console purchase on whether it includes a UHD drive. People will see it plays games better and is called Pro and will buy it. And you can bet, we will remind you of this. As for another comment in this topic about whether the Pro was ever said to be same generation - we have literally been saying this the whole time!
-
Oh right fair enough. I guess if you had such a drive for an older model or PS3 you could slap that in, or buy the 500GB model (perform a 2TB upgrade for not much more than the cost of the extra model). Buying the larger space model always seems like a rip off to me. I reckon we will see the price being lower than this anyway at various retailers, at least in bundles.
-
The slim is £259 not £299. I think the price of the Pro is spot on.
-
Speaking of that, this reminds me that I'm going to the Symphonic Fantasies concert next month in London.
-
That's why they need to make a home console Pokemon.
-
Anyone with negative things to say about this should go check out Rayman Jungle Run which is, decidedly, the shit.
