  1. This is one of the more ignorant posts on here in a while (particularly the bolded) and has reminded me of the maturity of some posters in this topic. The really annoying thing here is that my post was totally focused on new games and development, and the discussion that could bring, and you have ground that to the floor over some perceived bias you think I have rather than, you know, my comments surfacing because I actually want certain things from games for my own enjoyment (for reference, my only comment related to Sony was about the reimagining of God of War). Wahey! As for the rest - those yearly update games you speak of are not made by Sony. And Sony have tonnes of other games floating their console, many of which are totally new games. Nintendo have much less third party support and even if just comparing Nintendo to Sony (without the third party support PS4 gets), Nintendo are a lot more conservative with their releases. I want to know, what will Nintendo do to make me want their next console? I have played many Smash games, Pikmin games, Pokemon games; all of which seem, at least to me, hardly progress each generation to the point that I see little point in buying the sequels. When people like me get fed up, what is there to buy the system for?
  2. Well I didn't just say not the same characters and series, I said I wanted new concepts too, which definitely covers a game like Metroid Prime or Mario 64. The problem with Nintendo's established series is that they're older than most and a very large proportion of their output. They have loads of money and keep making the same types of games. I'd like them to be more daring, like they once were. You look at a game like God of War that's in development and it's totally different to the old type of games, almost unrecognisable. If they are just going to reuse their characters I would like to see some total reimaginings of how the gameplay looks and feels. Starting first? Pokemon!
  3. This IMO is a problem with the average Nintendo gamer's mindset and one that I feel Nintendo have for sure propagated over the years. Nobody seems to be yearning for new stuff or at least has any faith in Nintendo to do great off more than their big titles. I seem to see people all the time wanting old series revived but very rarely wanting totally new ideas. As you say...you think they'd be mad to release these big games at launch. But what if they did, and then focused on delivering new and great ideas? You can't have a console floated on a few select massive titles. I think Nintendo need to shift their output to be at least 50% new concepts, characters and series for the next generation. They're stagnating and I'm getting bored of a lot of their series now.
  4. Meh, it's all about waiting for DQXI now for me. I spent something like 120 hours on the glorious DQ8 and I feel like if I did that again soon I'd probably want to cool off for a long time before playing another game in the series. These are not RPGs to be taken lightly!
  5. Argh super slammed at work today...sorry, but doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make it for any reasonable time.
  6. I also had to "Request desktop site" as the mobile version wasn't letting me 'buy' it after adding it to the wishlist.
  7. But did you actually think he was suggesting it wasn't a 3D game (ie. he was calling it a 2D game?). Surely you can see the 'black and white' interpretation of the words 'real 3D Mario' is so obviously not the point being made - that's why I was dismayed to see people stating "any game in 3D is a 3D game". It just seemed like deliberate misinterpretation of a point. Fair enough if you hadn't heard the term used in that particular way, just the spelling out what constituted 3D seemed overkill.
  8. There's only one person coming across as arrogant here and it wasn't him.
  9. And I refer you to my previous post:
  10. So this has boiled down to the inevitable people literally interpreting the words 'three dimensional' vs people interpreting the context of the words being used. Another example is Crash Bandicoot. A 3D game, but at the same time, eh...not really.
  11. Can't do tonight sorry....tomorrow 7:45 or Sunday from 7:30PM ish would work though.
  12. Fixed that for you.
  13. Ah yeahhh I 'member Edit: @Daft you git.
  14. @MilaGi or @Agent Gibbs (or anyone else) we are all on now if one of you wants the last spot for an alt raid run?
  15. Yeah still on for 9.
  16. I ordered my 3DS from ShopTo and got it early. Ordering from GAME is not a good idea if you ask me...I think it's a dead cert you'll get this on release if you order online.
  17. I can probably do Saturday night if Drift can't. Would 9 be ok with people? Usually takes us around 2 and a half hours at most now...
  18. I just don't see how it can be called a home console because it has TV out. To me, that's like saying a laptop is a desktop computer because you can connect it to a TV or monitor with an HDMI cable. Don't get me wrong, it's a good idea, but it's really not a home console.
  19. Oh it's definitely a handheld, the fact it can output to TV doesn't really change anything (think of the swathes of devices that are portable but can do TV-out - my phone can cast to my TV with no extra hardware and I wouldn't call it a home device). It's a hybrid only in the sense that Nintendo are consolidating their software from two ecosystems into one. And because it's a handheld, we're not going to get a home console in terms of performance, just like with a laptop versus a PC of the same cost. I personally wouldn't expect every multiplatform game that goes to X1/PS4 to come to this.
  20. I'd have to disagree with each and every one of your examples, given that every single one thrived for a specific reason, and that reason was not it being a weaker system. In some cases that weakness may have led to it being cheaper (e.g. Wii) which no doubt helped it shift units, but that by no means was the reason it was so successful. Again, success in spite of weakness. This generation shows that people don't just want a weak, cheap console. Time and time again we see people go to the console that suits their needs - the Wii had a cool new and exciting technology, the PS2 had a DVD drive and many exclusive games, and the PS4 somewhat astoundingly was a system that seemed to be basically what people wanted...in contrast to the other systems. My comment to Serebii was basically to say that the console being weaker should have no predictive power in determining success. It's all about whether the console does what enough people want.
  21. Um, I'm not sure you've noticed but the PS4 is itself a monster as a result of doing exactly what it has been doing...so why not just carry on doing it? Sony and Microsoft have already locked in to upping their specs anyway with Pro/Scorpio home consoles. I suppose you could say Sony/MS might release a similar product as an extra device to complement their successful home consoles, but that seems rather superfluous. Why have a home console and a handheld/home console. Sorry, I just can't see them having much interest in this. It's just totally in the opposite direction of what these companies are all about. It's not like a Wii Remote clone that you can cheaply invent for your console to jump onto a craze...it's the console itself. I also think that after the Vita, Sony know they can't compete on the handheld front, and Microsoft have never seemed interested in this area, so I can't see them wanting to copy this, even though I'm sure it will sell. Also regarding specs... specs are absolutely vital to the console; without parity, and especially if you're the underdog, you can kiss those cross-platform releases goodbye. Publishers will go where the audience is and where it's easy for them to port their games. That's exactly what we saw on the Wii U.
  22. Yeah but not because it was the weakest, rather in spite of it.
  23. Nintendo have moved entirely into the handheld domain so no longer really share the same generations with the other home consoles. I doubt Sony and Microsoft are bothered about Nintendo now - Nintendo aren't going to produce a machine that will compete with theirs on specs so they know they'll keep their userbase and third party devs.
  24. I'll admit, GO has certainly done more to shift 3DS systems than I thought it would. That said, from what I recall, 3DS hardware sales were pretty poor before GO's release (particularly in the US) and they're reporting percentage increases, so it probably sounds like it's had a much bigger effect than it really has. Also remember that a bunch of other factors came along too (Monster Hunter, 2DS price cut, old school Pokemon games on the eShop sale). I don't deny some of it is Pokemon GO's doing though.
