  8. It's because each model is aimed at a particular market. Graphics cards usually fall into three different categories within a given series: high-end, mid-range, and budget. Each with varying specs (clock speeds, shader unit count, etc.) and is normally priced and numbered accordingly, designating which category it belongs to. This is why a high-end card from a previous series (the most expensive, numbered the highest, and the best performing in its series) will usually perform better than a budget card from a new series (the least expensive, numbered the lowest, and the worst performing in its series). High-end cards are aimed at the power-user market, and are for people who demand the best in performance. Mid-range are for those who don't wish to spend a premium, but at least want a decent level in performance from their hardware. Mid-range cards are usually considered the best value for money. Budget cards are, as the word suggests, for those on a tight budget. They're best avoided by gamers.
  9. Probably not Nintendo, but Datel are likely to release something that enables you to transfer saves between PC and Revolution.

For me, the reduction in graphical quality wouldn't matter at all if it meant I could use the new controller for looking around, aiming bows, swinging swords (with direct control, non of Red Steel's 'drawing shapes' nonsense! ), and maybe casting spells (some of which could be cast by 'drawing shapes' :wink: ), etc. I really can't see a Revolution version ever happening though.

  12. As subjective as that is, it's a fair bet that the Revolution will at least be capable of 'good' graphics. Just don't expect the 'best'.
  13. Whichever way you look at it, the new controller will be more important than the console's graphical capabilities. It is what will separate it from the, arguably identikit, competition. Provided the games are good, and they make sensible use of the controller's versatile nature, I think the quality of what's on screen will take a back seat in what people think of Revolution games. After all, it happened with the DS - its games are usually judged more by their use of the touch screen and dual screen features more so than the graphics.
  14. Actually, seeing as my Radeon 9800 Pro has served me adequately over the last three years, I think I can say such things. You just need the will power to turn settings down as games gradually become more demanding. It's how I got through Quake IV with said graphics card. It's even possible to play Oblivion with such a card. As for DirectX10, there's DirectX9.L, which will be DirectX10's Windows XP counterpart ...developer's aren't just going to ditch the existing user base, because it would impact game sales.

I would be more than happy if Nintendo made their new controller compatible with their current console, launched them both as a bundle as standard (making the controller available seperately for existing Gamecube owners), and offered fresh support in the form of a new range of Gamecube games that work exclusively with the new controller. Of course they wouldn't do that, mainly for marketing reasons I think. But the whole point of the Revolution is innovative control over better graphics. Will people ever get that? After all, it's been over a year since the DS was launched - a device that also eschewed the race for technical superiority over the competition in favour of a more versatile interface - so we've had plenty of time to get used to the idea.
  16. I would go for ATI for a single card system, but Nvidia for a dual card system. Dual card systems seem somewhat of a waste to me though, because we're seeing the same thing happen now that happened in the 3Dfx Voodoo SLI days - a year or so down the line a single card is launched that can outpace them. I would go for a single Radeon X1900XTX graphics card myself, and make do with that for possibly three or so years - like I have with my current Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card.

  20. It's not 'very limited'! As I've already said, the mouse and keyboard is a very versatile control combination, and only limited by how developer's choose to use it. Further more, there are plenty of PC gaming peripherals knocking about. And with beauties like Logitech's MOMO Racing wheel and Thrustmaster's HOTAS Cougar joystick and throttle I could easily argue that the PC leads the way in quality gaming peripherals.
  21. It's probably not mentioned (much) because the PC caters mainly for a select few genres. Two of which are best played with the mouse and keyboard combination anyway (first-person shooters and real-time strategy games). And even when it comes to differing game play types the mouse and keyboard can prove itself to be a very versatile setup. For example, both Beyond Good & Evil and Psychonauts work remarkably well on PC even though they are console type games. It all depends on how well the controls for such game play types have been implemented, Second Sight being an example of how they're often very poor. But, regardless of that, there's very little market for console type games on PC. So any refinement in controls is pretty much redundant when the most popular genres on this platform work more than adequately with the existing set up. It doesn't need evolving as much as console controls do - especially seing as first-person shooters have become extremely popular over the last few years on the consoles, something Nintendo is aiming their Revolution controller (with the nunchuk addon) at. Console real-time strategy games would benefit greatly from the Revolution controller too.
  22. Super Mario Sunshine always comes to my mind when I think of Gamecube graphics. The rich and vibrant colours are simply wonderful, as are the various effects - such as the reflections and the heat haze. But it's the water, particularly when you're out at sea, that impresses me the most. It's difficult to fully appreciate in a static screenshot... ...but the way it moves, and the way the light shimmers as it undulates, it just looks so... inviting, like the clean and clear waters surrounding a typical tropical location in the real world. Beautiful!
  23. Some games I'll buy regardless of reviews, but I'll read them just out of interest. Other games that I'm partially interested in, I'll buy if they receive good enough reviews from several sources. Vice versa, if a game, that I'm partially interested in, receives poor reviews from several sources I'll give it a miss.
