The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Sméagol replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I only caught 2 horses so far. One for the sidequest, one because I wanted a cool looking black horse. But I never used horses so far (why ride a horse if you can fly to anywhere). Wanted to call my black horse "Black Beauty", but they don't allow that many characters, so had to call her Black B. -
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

Yeah.. Loving the patch notes. "Adjustments have been made to make for a more pleasant gaming experience." Zelda is still a 10/10 for me, purely based on entertainment value, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have its weakpoints.. And the "dungeons" are definitely one of them. With my first one (the Elephant), I was thinking "ehh, it's small, there's neglible combat, but I really like the puzzle mechanic". But my 2nd one (lizard) had a similar design, a similar puzzle mechanic, and even less combat. The puzzle mechanic actually goes all the way back to Majora's mask. The dungeons here are basically slightly more involved shrines.. Kind of a puzzle shrine, a shrine where getting to it is the puzzle, and those test of strength shrines in one. I'm really looking forward to the "proper" dungeon in the dlc now. Anyway, my adventure update: I've played for 120+ hours, I've done 2 divine beasts, 71 shrines, and have 235 Korok seeds. I spent loads, so I'm guessing I've found about 300 of them, and after 120 hours I keep finding new ways of discovering them. I still have all of the western regions to uncover. In my last play session, I finally went to the Spring of wisdom and the white dragon. Never bothered with it before, because I didn't have the gear to explore the mountain, and I hate relying on potions. Until I read you can actually use fire weapons as a heat source, and the warm doublet and great fire sword were apparently all I needed, so off I went to finally see my last dragon. Found a couple of Koroks along the way. Went to the beach south of the mountain, found some more Koroks. Went back to Eventide island, to do the flying minigame (didn't have enough stamina to do it first time around). Only got a few rupees, so that was a waste of time! Took the raft back to Hateno beach, got some more rupees after solving the riddle from that bard bird (hmm, yes, that's what I'll be calling him now). Then back to Hateno village for a couple of sidequests. One of the kids wanted to see a firerod, I've kept one all this time for this purpose, now I can finally get rid of it. I'm getting sick of trying the deer hunting minigame, my Phrenic bow broke, so I'll postpone it once again. Finally bought all the upgrades to my house as well. It was getting tedious, so I only did a few upgrades at a time. I was also thinking my house was kind of empty, but apparently getting all the upgrades fixes that! it's looking lovely now. Also came across Fang & Bones, looked if he had some new stuff, and he did. A new monster mask, some horse gear (I didn't know horses had gear). I also bought that hammer he had purely for the compendium. Next stop was Kakariko village. I needed a picture of a Blupee for a sidequest, this was one of the places I knew they were there. Also wanted to visit the fairy to upgrade all my (new) clothes, and get a pumpkin for another sidequest. And get the sheikah outfit, for the collection. Never bothered with it before, since I mostly stick to the climbing gear. Final stop for the session was Hyrule central. Never fully explored it, only activated the tower, so I still have plenty of stuff to do there. Did a few shrines, visited the stable, collected a memory, and ended the session by going to the collisseum and fighting the Lynel. Cost me 2 or 3 royal swords, so not sure if it's worth it, haha. Well I need the drops for upgrades later, and the bow is pretty good I guess. More importantly, the fight was fun, and I'm getting better at it. Next session: first stop will probably be Korok forest, for the sidequests (and upgrading inventory), then I'm thinking of exploring Hyrule castle for the sidequests and loads of loot. Often, before I quit the game and go to bed, I just mess around without saving. This is why I know I can find the best shield in Hyrule castle, among various other goodies. It's also how I know where to find the Gerudo I'm looking for for Tarrey town, so I may do a quick detour before finally heading out to the north west region. -
I haven't read / watched the reviews, but I actually loved Banjo Tooie, and I've wanted a Banjo Threeie since finishing that game. This is the closest thing I'll get. Performance issues are hopefully fixable, gameplay-wise I'm confident I'm getting exactly what I want.

You Brits complain about the weather much, don't you? Hope you have enough windmills.

Yeah, I wasn't exagerrating when I said the default controls were nauseating.. It's giving me motion sickness.
-
They also don't have the most efficient workflow:
-
Played 3 games. Couldn't find the options menu before the first, the default controls were nauseating. Tried something else for the 2nd game, didn't work. 3rd game again, adjusted controls, but still didn;t get the feel for it. I know wjhat the problem is though. It's the age old N64 FPS generation syndrome. I need the sticks to be switched. I can see the fun of this game, but I'll need a lot more customization options before I'm actually able to enjoy it. Perhaps Splatoon 1 veterans can tell me if first had more elaborate options than this open beta. Would have liked an offline tutorial / how to play, and the option to leave a game and edit your options mid-game.

I'm most likely on tonight, but not for the whole hour. I'm gone tomorrow evening, but may catch the afternoon matches on Saturday and Sunday (and maybe the Saturday night one).

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Sméagol replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I'm almost treating this as a walking & climbing simulator. I have only used the fast travel once.. To get back to the plateau. Didn't think you could get back up there otherwise (but you can). I wanted to get to the temple of time to exchange orbs, forgetting there are shrines in most (all?) villages. I haven never used a horse, except to catch two and for a sidequest. Ran and climbed everywhere. A considerable time is spent on the map and vantage points to decide where I want to go. Over 80 hours in, and I've only just decided to go to Goron City. Complete westof the map is still covered, and most of the north, with Death mountain being the most recent addition. -
Can someone tell me if you can actually upgrade to the deluxe version on origin (after getting the standard version)?

Switch Virtual Console (or lack thereof) discussion
Sméagol replied to Charlie's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I have no immediate need for virtual console. I prefer to buy new games. On the Wii, I only used it for the handful of Japanese imports and games on consoles I didn't own. It's a nice option to have though. I'm not against double dipping when I own the physical copy, and want a digital copy for convenience, but I'm not buying multiple digital copies. I hope from now on, E-shop sales work like Steam, where the games are tied to your account, and you can take them to a new console. Yes, for free. I do not care for new features, and I expect Nintendo to handle development of the emulators required, which can be included in the cost of the console and/or online subscription. -
It's possible I've overlooked this (again, this is my first physical download code, so I'm not familiar with the trend), but I'm pretty sure I've pre-ordered long before this shit was mentioned in the description (it does now). Another shitty thing is they didn't release a physical deluxe edition (which now isn't surprising anymore). There's no way I would've pre-ordered if I had known this.
-
PC yeah, I assume the console versions get an actual CD. It may be not, but this is the first game I've received that's just a code. That's not what constitutes a physical release for me. This has no added value over a download, none. I'm not putting an empty box on the shelf. And I don't pay full retail for download games.
-
Received my "physical copy". A fucking empty box with a code. Fuck you EA. I'm most likely returning this shit.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch

Some enemies come in red, blue and black varieties, black being the hardest. Moblins are bigger than Bokoblins, but you may have encountered a Hinox, which towers even over Moblins (which are roughly twice as tall as Bokoblins). Hinoxes are pussies compared to (the much smaller) Lynels though. Was practicing against a (red) Lynel yesterday (using proper tactics, no ancient arrows ). Wasn't focussing that hard, but couldn't beat it, and moved on to where I was actually going. I came close though, parrying his attacks was getting easier, so I should be able to take them on soon. Can you actually dodge his horizontal slash? Even in a video I watched where some guy literally beat a Lynel with a stick, he never dodges those attacks, only parried. Also annoying is that he sometimes slashes with both his weapons, for which the timing seems to be different. I also hear people about mounting a Lynel, but I never got the option, even when he was stunned. -
Geez, that must've been expensive.

Yeah, I've seen some gifs.. Animations could do with some work unfortunately.

Out of curiosity, did anyone else receive a Nintendo Switch survey in their mail? Decided to help 'm out and fill it in, though as always with these things, I feel they could ask some better questions. Asking me how much I've used motion controls in the first 2 weeks when there are only two games out with motion controls (I believe?), which I didn't buy.. Hmm.
-
So.. I've been neglecting this. My 3 favourites since the start of the year: Logan, The Lego Batman movie, Lady Macbeth, Hidden figures, A monster calls and Train to Busan were a few other films I've enjoyed.

I've been getting hearts and stamina upgrades in a 2:1 ratio, and only spend the orbs when I've saved up 12. I'm liking the stamina upgrades because I do a lot of climbing, and more stamina definitely makes that easier and quicker. You can even do some minimal climbing in the rain with enough stamina. -
Where do you live?

The forum is built on tables, really? That would give me headaches.. But thanks for looking into it.
