N-Europe Summer Multiplayer Extravaganza MMXVIII
Sméagol replied to Sméagol's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I'll see you guys at 8 for some Mario Kart. Unless it's just the 3 of us, then I'll head straight for plan b: go out and see a film (and return for some Splatoon at night). Zen's servers aren't responding, so I can't create a tournament at the moment. When I can, I'll leave it open for two days, so you can try all weekend. It will be Sorcerer's lair with a 5 minute limit but unlimited balls (and no powerups). I was too tired to actually grab a copy of Tennis this afternoon, so that's the one I'm skipping (if I'm not doing plan b already). I'm up for alternatives, though I'll see if I can get RE:REV2 up and running @Vileplume2000. I may plan some games for tomorrow if people are up for it. -
No I will fight and beat them now Goddamnit. Yeah that's just common sense in a game like this. The shop is selling more items now though, need some keys. And I need to buy the last notch from that charm guy.

Hmm, got an e-mail saying my Epic account was compromised. I did use an incredibly simple password, but geez, it hasn't been two weeks! Anyway, I used a simple password because I needed to decide on it on my Switch. On my computer, I generate a random password nowadays. I intended to change it later. Good thing I didn't spend money on V-bucks already then.

N-Europe Summer Multiplayer Extravaganza MMXVIII
Sméagol replied to Sméagol's topic in Nintendo Gaming
We need to talk times. Or is this happening at all. Otherwise there's other stuff I'll be doing tomorrow night. I can also move this Sunday if preferrable. I was thinking simply this: All day long: Zen FX3 pinball - Sorcerair's lair tournament 16:00 Blazblue - Beat up Sméagol who doesn't know anything about the game. 17:00 Street fighter 3 - Beat up Sméagol who barely knows anything about the game. 20:00 Mario Kart - General league format: 3 GP's 21:00 Rocket League - 3 vs 3 22:00 Mario Tennis - ehh I still have to actually get this. Is there a private tournament option? 23:00 Splatoon 2 - x vs x 00:00 Splatoon 2 - Splatfest late night sessions Could use the afternoon for other stuff as well. -
I'd try this out now if it weren't for the fact that I've already bought several games this month, and have plenty to p(l)ay as a result. But I suspect this is more up my alley than Fortnite, so I can't wait to try it out. Maybe I'll get the founders pack next month.

That was to be expected from such a high profile indie game. Oh well, I already said this game was a steal, so I'll happily double dip in this case. Quick question though; Can I sell those collectibles without any issues, or do they have other uses?

Resident Evil Revelations 1+2 Coming To Switch
Sméagol replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I wouldn't ever play that game in single player. Yeah I personally loved it in co-op, can't believe they dropped the ball so hard in RE6, even though it has some nice ideas and some good effort put in. Just too much effort in the wrong things. But yeah, RE5, I loved it. Before they broke it. I think, just like Dark Souls, you can play it with a 3rd party patch, but last time I checked I couldn't get it to launch. If you ever feel like checking that out, let me know, I'll see what I can do on my end. Edit: It's why I wouldn't mind a Switch port at all. Just like Dark Souls, I bought a copy in a Steam sale (two in fact, it being a co-op game), but wouldn't mind a physical copy for the collection (in a cute little Switch case), with a new playerbase and no Games for Windows Live shit. -
Yeah I don't think that would cause a lot of sales. I don't a lot of people buying an extra playstation just to be able to play with friends, for just one game. I think the context would have made such people decide early on to get a Playstation in that case, instead of a Switch of Xbox. So a sale, but not an extra sale. But people won't buy online multiplayer games if there's no playerbase. Crossplatform would makes those games viable for a longer time, increasing sales on all platforms. It's win-win.
-
I'm not sure if that has any real influence on that. But my point is that even when a game's playerbase starts to dwindle, they could still sell it as the playerbase will be sustainable for a longer time. So I don't think it actually makes much business sense either.

Everytime I check this thread, I see that gif. And it just.. It gets me everytime.

Resident Evil Revelations 1+2 Coming To Switch
Sméagol replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I just bought it, but I need to do some data management first, as I'm not even able to download it at the moment. Looking forward to some co-opping, even if it's not a proper co-op mode. I need to re-install RE 5 on Steam. -
Some of my progress before I continue:

I was going to play some Hollow Knight, but I can join you later. Team Octoling?

Resident Evil Revelations 1+2 Coming To Switch
Sméagol replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
So quick question, still interested in this, or are you done already? Never gotten around (yet) to import a copy, but with RE Revelations 2 not having a cartridge version anywhere I was considering getting this in the current sale. As far as I'm aware story-wise it's not directly related to the first, so I could play them out of order? That said.. I see Londragon mentioning a 25 GB download. I don't think I can even download that right now without rearranging my fridge. -
Yup. I don't get Sony's attitude. They need to see cross-platform as a resource. Even if you have the biggest playerbase, an even bigger player base is always better. Yeah I had that idea myself. But I'm no product designer. Personally I'd love to see a new official stand that provides a vertical mode though.

The closed beta will start on 28-06-2018.

So practically the same game then. You just convinced me not to give Limbo a second thought. It doesn't feel like designed to me. It just feels like they didn't bother to include a real story. Ambiguous elements are fine, but the story in this game is practically non-existant. What people theorise about this game, is interesting, but even that's just very little actual story. I bet you can't fill a paragraph about it, even with all the stuff you imagine. I also don't want to imagine stuff when consuming entertainment like this, I can do that just fine without them. When I play a game or watch a film that has a story, I want to be told that story. Not do all the work for them. That said, not every game needs a story. You don't play Mario for the story. But this game doesn't provide any meaningful gameplay in return, that's the problem. I would have no problem with the vague story if I actually did something in those 3+ hours I played. You see, that's the main problem. The game also isn't about puzzle solving. It has an interesting mechanic (the control thing), but fails to do anything actually clever with it. It's incredibly under-utilised. The far majority of the puzzles, are so glaringly obvious, they're not worth mentioning. In fact, I barely remember any puzzle solving at all. I can only remember one puzzle, which actually had me think for a minute. Other than that, I just remember running from left to right a lot. The "puzzles" were just hindrances. Artificial padding. You know what you have to do, so you're going through the motions. Collect the followers, hit the switch, continue. That's just busy-work. I'm not exaggerating if I say that if they had created this as an auto-runner instead, with frequent loading screens, the game would have felt pretty much the same to me. Nothing in itself, it depends on what they're asking for it. But I like to backtrack and explore some. And admittedly, I didn't do enough of that in this game. But ignore the collectibles, and you're looking at a game that's closer to two hours. The collectibles are actually the only meaningful gameplay element in the game, so if I had put more effort in that first time around, I would have gotten more out of the game. As a game, it just fails. It would have made more sense as an animated short film.

Why lump the two together? Anyway, I played Inside very recently, as in last month (never played Limbo). I bought it quite a while ago in a Steam sale, after hearing great things about it, and it seemed up my alley, but I was disappointed by it. First of all: the atmosphere is awesome. I like the minimalist artstyle. But that's pretty much about it for me personally. The story is vague. There's not much to it anyway, there's nothing in the form of dialogue, but let me get back to that. Platforming-wise.. Well there's nothing much to that as well. I blasted to it in less than 4 hours, and that's even with the ocasional lengthy detour to find some collectible. If it weren't for those, you can really run towards the end in very limited time, with only the occasional "puzzle" blocking your way. There's no challenge in that area. So you have a vague story, and boring gameplay, which leaves you just with the incredible atmosphere, which for me is not enough. The collectibles are the only thing adding replay value, but personally I had no desire to go back and collect the rest of them (I found some, but missed a lot). To the game's credit, it does offer a convenient way of finding those by offering a level select. Again, having no desire to go back for them, I just Googled what they did, which is unlocking an alternate ending, which sheds some more light to the story. It makes it somewhat more interesting, but it's still incredibly simple. There's no explicit worldbuilding, there's no backstory being told, so you still don't know anything apart from what you're seeing on screen. The sad thing is I'm getting the same vibe from Little Nightmares, which is why I haven't gotten back to that yet.

Just read the interview. Sounds awesome. I loved Tenchu on the Wii. And it seems this game takes a lot of inspiration from that series. I love how you have other options than head-on combat.
-
I did. It's incredibly short. So short I didn't get a proper impression. I handful of battles, lots of dialogue, which I started to skip eventually, as I don't want to read in a demo. Environments look a bit bland, but the Tony Taka designed characters add more appeal than I would have expected. I love my waifus. Battles seem ok (they're real-time), but again, you only get to try a handful. In-game dialogue / cutscenes are pretty wooden. Hopefully choosing Japanese audio will alleviate that, but that doesn't change the animation and flow. All in all it comes across as somewhat low-budget.

The 4th installment in the Valyria Chronicles series, a great strategy JRPG. http://valkyria.sega.com/?lang=uk

Just a quick comment. I bought this after playing and finishing Yoku (so heading straight back in another Metroidvania). .. And 15 euros is a fucking steal. I love the Metroid / Dark Souls / A bug's life combo. I'm not having any problems with difficulty, though I did get utterly lost.

I don't want Panzer Dragoon, but I'd pay for a video of the whole process of you getting his game and then giving it away for free.
