The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening REMAKE — 20th September 2019
Glen-i replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
@Ugh first aid just finished the game last night and she had the same impression. And I'll tell you the same thing I told her. The chances are, you're a lot better at games now than you were back when this game came out. A combination of more gaming experience, some memory of what you need to do and the Quality of Life improvements the Switch version has will make this game feel a lot shorter and easier to get through. -
-
Actually, compared to the run up to Sun/Moon, Sword/Shield has been a lot lighter on pre-release info. There could be two reasons for this. - TPC are actually keeping a lot of stuff secret. - This game has very little that is new. Given the likely issues that no National Pokédex would imply, I'd be surprised if it wasn't the latter.
-
Weren't you complaining in a different thread about companies releasing games with no marketing, or without talking about them? I was just about to type something like that. @Ronnie, you know full well that the moment this game gets released to the press, that someone will datamine it and reveal everything anyway.

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

You're seeing this seep into Ninty's titles as well. While not nearly as exploitative as the likes of FIFA, there are still games that offer "Time Saver" microtransactions to give an advantage for those willing to pay for it. Super Kirby Clash was the most recent one, where after a certain point, it becomes difficult to progress without a whole lot of grinding and waiting for more Gem Apples to come around. That kind of bull is the reason I'm not wasting my time with it, I learned my lesson from the 3DS version. Pokémon Quest, Mario Kart Tour and the like are all games that use this format, Mario Kart Tour in particular is a real sour spot for me, because I genuinely tthink the time spent making that game would have been better off just making a new DLC pack for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe instead. I would have bought that, and given it's one of the Switch's biggest titles, lots of others would have as well. Some of the tracks bought back for the mobile game would have been nice to have on the Switch version. It's a bit of a different scenario, but have you ever noticed how the traditional consoles pretty much never get Pokémon spin-off games anymore? The only ones that Switch has currently is a port of a mobile game, Pokkén (Enhanced WiiU port) and the upcoming Detective Pikachu 3DS port. It's a far cry from the DS days where we got a smorgasbord of Pokémon spin-offs that took the IP and did something different with it (Strategy RPG, Plot-focused Roguelike, Drawing action adventure, Ordance Survey Racing, Puzzle Game and even a Typing Game) It's precisely because The Pokémon Company have been chasing microtransactions ever since Pokémon GO. They're making crazy money from the Pokémon IP but they're not using it to fund these games you refer to. Why bother when you can make mediocre, yet addictive games that attempt to get people to pay for these microtransactions. -

I don't, I've literally finished every game I own on Switch and 3DS. Plus side of having low disposable income, I guess. -

Seems good to me. I already mentioned I'd be fine with any time. -
I thought it was the new NewsNight logo.

A Smashing Cast: Episode 1 Now Available!

No problem, I take it for this trial run, we can just stick to a usual kind of rule setup? What do you lot fancy, Time, Stock or Stamina? As for the time, I'm actually available all week this week. (It's not the norm for me, so don't get too used to it) So I'm very flexible as far as time goes, just give me a heads up whenever. Seeing as it is a Smash Ultimate Online session, once we settle on a time, I think I should drop a heads-up on the online thread regardless. Hopefully should attract some more interest. For that reason, it'd be ideal to give at least a day notice, seeing as it'll probably not be the usual Thursday session. I'll also be making it a locked room. Rarely, one of my non N-E friends joins in, which is normally fine, but for this, I don't think it will be. -
I know I'm late, but man, it's great seeing @Jonnas getting so fired up about Terry. It's like watching a kid on Christmas. What I actually came here for is to show off a feat that three of the kids I play Smash with (and me) just pulled off today. If you discount the Miis, who don't appear in All-Star Smash. There's currently 77 characters in Smash Ultimate. Which means I've finally had an All-Star Smash run where I've beaten every character at least once. Trust me, that's hard, even with 4 people. The best thing is that the other 3 kids pictured above were utterly hopeless back when we were playing Smash WiiU and now they can hold their own against me quite easily. They've learned so much from me! I'm a little proud. (In case you're wondering, the player order corresponds to the characters used for the high score, so I was Shulk there)

I believe you meant @S.C.G, because I very much approve of that name. -

@Ashley hasn't gotten back to us yet. But that's pretty usual on the weekend, give it time. I'm sure we'll get word on that soon. -
I mean, you just have to laugh at this point.

I mean, he's part of the staff here, so he already is?

No multiplayer Picture Quiz is a major bummer. Yes, I know, you'd need multiple Switches for that, but still!

I gonna side on the face of, "I doubt it". Rapidash already has a Base Stat Total of 500, evolutions tend to add approximately 100 to that. If Rapidash were to get an evolution, it would have stats to rival the likes of Dragonite and Hydreigon. It's not impossible, sure, never say never and all that, but I don't see Rapidash suddenly becoming a psuedo-legendary. For comparisons sake, Linoone only has a BST of 420, so an extra 100 for Obstagoon would put it at around Charizard levels of strength, which is pretty reasonable. Poor Farfetch'd only has a measly 377 BST, so an evolution would have to add far more stats than average for it to stand a chance in a serious match. That said, Rapidash being or evolving into a Pegasus style Pokémon (And presumably getting a Flying type added to its Psychic type) is a great idea and I would love it to happen.

To be fair, it's probably the best way to gauge how well a game will do before actual sales figures come out. I know I could never be bothered to check that myself, so I appreciate @Tim B's obsessive pre-order behaviour.

Glen-i replied to Goron_3's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Definitely @Ashley if you want it under the N-E banner, you'll need the go-ahead of the person who runs the site. Graphics-wise, @RedShell would be the guy who does pretty much all the graphics you see on this site. If you decide to go for it, you could ask him nicely. I'm kinda new-ish to the staff, but I believe @Vileplume2000 has some experience with making videos for the site. -

As far as I'm concerned, you're pretty good @LazyBoy. You certainly keep me on my toes. While I wouldn't be able to be on the actual discussion panel. (Don't really have the equipment for that) I certainly wouldn't mind being one of the players in these sessions if I happen to be available. Any excuse for more Smash, I guess. -
Seeing as we have a new entrant to this half year league, I'm gonna mention that the following GP results are before the usual recalculation and don't include any Champion's Bonuses that apply. (You don't get a bonus for any draws with @RedShell and me) @martinist has been on a bit of a roll lately and has finally overtaken @RedShell in the table. Despite that, he's still in third place due to @Nicktendo's ridiculously good opening scores and three Champion's Bonuses. (Well, OK, maybe not in GP1) Unfortunately, I've done some calculations and even if he takes part in every league night from now on, he won't make the minimum 50% attendance threshold for his score to count. Still, more players are always appreciated, so don't let that put you off. Next League Night: 17th October 8pm Room 1: @BowserBasher is host @BowserBasher @martinist @viceview51 @RedShell Shut up! There's really only 3 spooky characters in MK8DX. And I've got three more nights to fill. So have a vehicle setup that's almost completely black. You're free to choose either Yoshi or Shy Guy, but they must be the black versions. There's a good chance I won't be able to make this week. I have prior engagements that will leave me unable to get back in time. (I'll probably still be able to Smash though) Sign up Now!

Only a couple from me. Why yes, Twitter Me, I agree.

Of course, the character choice is an important factor. Like, if you're playing as Samus, you'll probably want to use a lot of B moves when you have some distance, but if you're playing as someone like Mario, then you'll need to utilise A moves more often than not. But yeah, the hectic action of 4-player online matches, while hilarious, is not the best place to practice that stuff. So try and find some time to beat up some CPU's in a one-on-one now and again and try to focus on the A button until you're ready to start mixing the two buttons. And don't neglect those aerial attacks. They're some of the most important moves. (As you saw with that Corrin Combo finisher I pulled off)
-
OK, I'm done for tonight. @S.C.G I notice you have an over reliance on Specials. You really do favour them over any other move. But it leaves you well open at times and I feel that if you mixed it up a bit, you'd be harder to land a hit on. You'd also get more KO's because most characters strongest attack is an A one. I'm gonna give you the same advice I gave a few of the kids. Set up a match with a low level CPU some time. Choose a map with no pits. (Wii Fit Studio is a good shout) and try to beat them without ever pressing the B button. Normal attacks are the way most characters rack up damage and it's important to understand the general gist of how to hit others with aerial attacks and so on. It's definitely worth practicing it. Anyway, thanks for the games!
