I was about to bring this up. While I was catching up on news this morning, I noticed that a lot of smaller businesses were pretty hard hit by not being able to use Facebook, etc. That's clearly an issue if 6 hours of downtime can cause that much damage. -

Just over 6 hours to go! 3pm, UK time. In before someone clings to false hope about how it's only the final "Mr. Sakurai Presents" and not the final fighter.

There is nothing dull about actually managing to negotiate a deal with Disney. That would be an impressive achievement! Square only managed a temporary, unvoiced DLC cameo for World of Final Fantasy, and they develop the damn games! Sora would fit into Smash quite well. He's got plenty of material for a moveset, he looks quite cartoony (Well, in the KH1 outfit at least), and how many characters use a giant key as a weapon? Even if that were to happen though, (And it's a big if) I don't think anything to do with other Disney franchises would ever show up alongside him. It's one of two of the hard rules Sakurai has followed when developing Smash. Video Game stuff only. So Donald and Goofy wouldn't make an appearance, even in the Final Smash. Stages, music and Spirits would avoid anything to do with other Disney stuff. Hell, I'd even expect the Keyblade to have the Mickey logo keychain be replaced with the Smash symbol. I'd still take it though.

Deadly Premonition is an interesting case, the jankiness of it all serves to actually enhance the weird, unsettling tone it's going for. It's a happy accident. The sequel did not have lightning strike twice, however... -
I mean, yeah. This is most certainly the case, seeing as Snake was dropped in Smash 4 and reports that Cloud was the most difficult character to negotiate a return for Ultimate. The vast majority of characters are a lot more straightforward though. Smash sells games and Capcom and Sega capitalise on that. It's an easy benefit for them. So I don't expect Ryu, Mega Man or Sonic to be dropped. And if Namco continue working on Smash, then Pac-Man and Kazuya would probably stick around as well. Square and Microsoft would be the companies that might be a bit more difficult to work with.

But Steve is one of the more interesting characters in the second pass! Truly unique, he plays like no other character in the game. Unfortunately, the sheer amount of development needed behind him doesn't bode well for future games... @LazyBoy, there's always more characters. Even just Nintendo has plenty of untapped IP's to build off of. Pokémon and Fire Emblem feature constantly changing casts, so there's always new character material there. And then there's third parties. As Smash gets more and more dominant in fighting games, more and more companies will want in on that. And then there's indies, Shovel Knight and Undertale have gotten their foot in the door, so it's only a matter of time before we get our first indie character. (Probably in the next entry, mind) It will be a long time before we ever get something on the sheer scale of Ultimate again. (Outside of a straight port, and that's assuming all companies co-operate) Smash is gonna continue, the series pulls like you wouldn't believe, even when Sakurai eventually retires, it'll carry on.

Ah, you've come around to my line of thinking. Ace Attorney is the biggest Capcom Franchise that isn't Mega Man, Street Fighter, or a game that has been Mii Costume'd or post-launch Spirit Event'd. I'd be willing to put imaginary money on it being Phoenix Wright, or not a Capcom character at all. It's mad to think that in less then 24 hours, this crazy Hype Train will have reached it's Final Destination and we're all gonna have to pay the hefty fines of our incorrect guesses. Ah, the Halcyon days of when Byleth was better known as "Fire Emblem Switch Protagonist" and you'd have been laughed out of the room for suggesting Banjo actually had a shot. Anyway, just to pour fuel on the uncertainty fire. Sakurai there, claiming that even non-Smash fans will want to tune in. What could it mean!? A further translated tweet says "You may not know the new fighter, or it might be different from your personal expectations. BUT, we hope you enjoy this game show and the broadcast itself! I really enjoyed recording the broadcast." What could it mean!?

Yep, done it too. Saw an option for "Platform Exclusive collaborations". Interesting. Kinda scared that by that, they only mean PC exclusive. I hope not...

I think that lawsuit's main impact was that Sega completely distanced the series from ever referencing the Archie Comics ever again. I don't believe that EA was the reason for no sequel. I think the actual reason is because the game is utter crap. If it was actually good, Sega would've commissioned someone else to do a sequel. Anyway, @Cube. I have to have a word with you. If this is truly the case, then your Turn-Based RPG track record is truly woeful! When Paper Mario drops on the N64 Switch Online app, I demand you play that and actually find out what a decent RPG with action commands is actually like. It's for your own good. -
Games so bad... that they're actually good?

As a person who recently has been gifted absolute clunkers of games for the past few Christmases, I can most definitely input some experience here, at the risk of encouraging a certain someone to continue that trend. You kinda hit the nail on the head when you mentioned that 'So bad, it's good' games sound like actual hell to play. With something like The Room, it's truly entertaining, but not in the way that was intended and no matter what, it'll have the same run-time for every person (unless they need to rewind just to see if what happened actually happened). With a game, bad design and mechanics only serve to lengthen the play-time, making the game less enjoyable. I played Shadow the Hedgehog recently and the best bit about it are easily the cutscenes, and certainly not in a good way. It's similar to Final Fantasy Origins in that it tries to be really dark and edgy and fails spectacularly, because it doesn't fit at all. Seeing that game faceplant over its premise is endlessly hilarious. The problem is that everything in between the cutscenes is an absolute pain to plod through that stops being funny after 5 minutes. If Shadow the Hedgehog was a movie, it would certainly fit the 'So bad, it's good' category. And that's the issue. If you're playing one of those games, it can't truly be good, because then it wouldn't be bad. Games can't have horrible gameplay and still be enjoyed. Now another person watching and laughing at the struggle ensuing on the screen? That's a whole different thing entirely. So that's why I think when people say a game is "So bad, it's good", they haven't actually played it. -
This guy gets it. That feature alone is going to elevate N64 multiplayer to new heights! Apart from that simple life pleasure, it really can't be anything but Smash Ultimate. Consisting of 88 characters and 37 series spanning 9 companies! It's an absolute miracle of a game that, outside of a straight port on a future console, will probably never be replicated ever again. It's such an immense achievement, that even Microsoft wanted in! And there's still one more character to reveal in 2 days! It's simply put, the greatest fighting game ever made. A more personal aspect of the Switch that I've enjoyed is the smaller games with absolutely gorgeous visuals, not because of graphical prowess, but because of lovely art styles. I truly believe the best looking Switch games consist of the likes of Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX. (That one in particular impresses me because PMD hasn't looked any better then "OK", and now it looks like a bloody painting!) These kind of "moving drawings" are on the rise these days, and sure, it's not exactly an exclusive Switch thing, but I only own a Switch, so there!

Not really, no. Just boot up the game at 5pm and carefully check trees, because they're easy to miss. They're only avalible at 5pm-7pm and at 4am-8am. So the window is quite small.

OK, I do not mean to undermine many of the points you've made, as you've clearly spent a lot of time thinking about them and writing up this great post, but well... You Tell Me. None of these games require anything close to that amount of time to complete, and yet I have sunk hundreds of hours into them. As far as they're concerned, I make my own padding! But then you take a game like Breath of the Wild, and I just gave up on Shrine hunting and floored it to Ganon, because I couldn't stand it anymore. Or take Final Fantasy XIII, which I'm currently playing through on my quest to play almost every mainline FF entry. I'm 22 hours in, I wish it would end. Simply put, if the core gameplay loop is one I enjoy, I will play it for way longer then most people. I'm still playing the three games pictured above! Most people cite Bravely Default as a game that has blatant padding and would say it'd be a better game if it cut out most of the second half. I look at that claim and say "But that means I play less Bravely Default, and that's awful!" While I'm fully aware that I'm categorically not the norm when it comes to this kind of debate, I just want to get my weird thoughts out there. Pad your game all you like, as long as the fundamentals of them are enjoyable, I don't give a damn. -
I don't think so. I feel like if it happened before, it would've been Sonic and I would've remembered it.

Oh boy, have I got news you might be interested in! So, during that TGS screening for Rise, Capcom revealed the next couple of collabs for Event quests. Nice to see armour is just as elaborate for hunters as it is for Palamutes. That drops on the 29th of October. So far, so Capcom, but then... Not quite Nintendo, but it's a step towards the more interesting for sure!

Sorry @RedShell. No cross-play or cross-saves for the PC version. ProZD getting added as a voice is tempting me to actually use that character edit voucher. Shame that I'd have to change the language to English for that...

What the actual tier-two swear word!? It's one thing putting other top-tier Pokémon soundtracks above it, but saying it's not great is a whole different thing! Like, how can you even say the likes of these battle themes don't hold up? So good, Jimquisition co-opted it for their "Bethesda is Naughty" segments. A much needed return to form after Sun/Moon's really weak soundtrack. Just as great, lots of styles that differ from the main game. One in The Isle of Armour that sticks in my mind.

Normally, Time comes after a theme night, but the final character will drop in the near future, so I'm gonna skip over that for now and go straight to Stock. Tonight, 8pm.
