I can play trackmania tomorrow (as long it is in the evening) And if you have trouble finding ET players I can participate if needed. EDIT: in the evening meaning around 8:30pm GMT

Erm... that's two years from now? The lifespan of a decent computer is about 3 years. I built this one in 2003 july. And it still does it's job. The next phase in the cpu wars will be interesting. As intel has managed to make a better performing cpu now. I'm just waiting for the amd price cuts. Then I'll be able to decide whether my next PC is an intel or an amd one.
-
I'm advising that you go for the intel one. And the dual core helps if you encode lots of mp3's and generally multi-task a lot. For example you can play a game while encoding mp3's. It won't overclock really well (unless you're lucky). And the intel cpu is the cheapest dual core available. They launched it to compete with single core amd's. And if you don't know intel is making the most powerful chips at the moment. But the dual core is useful only if you use applications that can handle them. If used mainly for gaming, get the amd.

Yes it was an excellent game And some weird stuff went on after you left...

Maybe he hacked into one too many msn accounts and is now locked up in some french prison Too many people to be remembered here... The clan members for some nice games we have had. The bard for bringing little colour to this place. And yeah the people who have helped me in my tech issues and such. And of course the old C-E users. And then there's all the rest of you
-
Well it depends what are you using the PC for. The dual core pentium has great price/power ratio. And I would wait a while as there will be price drops in cpu's in the near future.

on mozilla (virtually the same as firefox) it's in preferences --> tabbed browsing
-
Check your browsers settings. Mozilla lost all my preferences, bookmarks etc a while back, and reverted to default.

You don't need a car (or a motorcycle) to do doughnuts

I don't know much about programming, but I think that every application reserves a certain amount of memory at startup. And the process priority changes only how the CPU will handle it. But I would only recommend to use it on boinc and such. Because the problems it causes usually aren't worth the small performance gain.

And while you'te at it, learn some advanced maths and physics. So basically if you really want to be a progammer you have to take the courses on a uni level. But to start with the basics buy a learning book for C++ there's usually a cd that includes a compiler. You should be making your first "hello world" program in no time. After you get the hang of c++ download the directx API from microsoft (I think it's free...) And start making simple games. Note that this kind of thing rquires lots of free time and devotion.

Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit Tweaking

And the one thing that makes any windows machine safer is to create a new user account. The account shouldn't have administrative rights, and can only write in certain folders. And when you're using the pc to surf the web, playing etc. You use the user account. You can save the desktop icons and such on that account, but you can't install new software while using it. There is a problem with punkbuster with that though. You might get "insufficient o/s privileges" error with games. -
It works with any game related network traffic. It works also with any other application that is sensitive to latency, like VOIP. It does work but having p2p open while playing still affects the ping. Check this out: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1746074,00.asp

It's a li-ion battery so it shouldn't be unloaded fully ever. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li-ion check that site for instructions how to prolong the battery life.

PC keeps shutting itself down... overheating?
Bogbas replied to CoolFunkMan's topic in General Chit Chat
Check the insides of the PC look for things that are obstructing the airflow. Like large IDE cables and such. Get a proper heatsink/fan for the cpu. And a couple of case fans. One on the bottom front of the case that blows air into the case. And one in a high place on the back that blows the air out You could also try to see what happens when you remove the side covers. But any case fan won't do anything for the temps then. -
Computer with Athlon 64 3700+ and 7600GT, any good?
Bogbas replied to triforce_keeper's topic in General Chit Chat
Half life 2 two runs fine on geforce 2(lowest settings, it's a 6 year old gfx card) . It's very scalable and your PC will run it fine. And it will run any game pretty well and if it doesn't at full settings then just lower the settings. -

I would really try improve the cooling as anything over 60 for the CPU is too hot IMO. And the 47 for the mono is too high also. -

It wil run games smoothly. Monitors don't really affect game performance. It's the hardware (mainly RAM, CPU and grahics card) that affects the performance. On an old flat panel there might be some blur because the response times were much longer few years ago than they are now. But now pretty much every flat screen is 8-12ms response time. And the long response time only would have been harmful if you played a lot of games that require fast reaction times (FPS, racing games). On RPG games it doesn't really make a difference. But the blur is really a thing of the past in most cases. The monitor is good enough for everything you plan to use it. -

For oblivion it should be fine. What graphics card are you going to get? Recommended specs for oblivinion (it's always good to be above these) are 1Gb RAM, at least 3Ghz Pentium 4 or equivalent (this you have so don't worry), and at least geforce 6800 or ati x800. -

Well it basically makes everything happen. It's like the brain of the computer. I think it would have been better to go dual core. But that would have also affected the price quite much. -
Oh right I'll enter in worms armageddon (if that's done..) ET, AA, CSS, HL2 DM and Mario kart. Quite a lot of games then to start practise on. I'd join UT too but I don't have it.

CSS + connection problems = bugs (what is wrong in this picture? and no it's not the noclip as it was on a WC3 mod server.) Our general was surprised pants down...

Can't be arsed to quote everything but here goes: I hate idiotic car drivers. Some people try to knock a bike off the road basically just because they can with a car. Then about the eating animals bit. I don't know how the moose situation is elsewhere, but here they are a real health hazard for cars. So any moose that's on my plate has potentially let some human live. And todays electronics. Before every electrical apparatus (tv, radio etc) were built to last for 10-30 years. Now they are built so that they break down in 5-6 years. It's good for business I suppose, but annoying for the consumer.

It's not a prison And to explain my previouys post: I speak from experience. Made some good friends in the army and I miss them now. And I guess I miss the shooting bit also
