Quantum of Solace - 9/10

Brilliant stuff, not really as good as Casino Royale but it was different. There were a lot more high octane chases, I was on the edge of my seat for most of it.

Speed - 9/10

Fantastic thriller, my last comment for Quantum of Solace applies to this too.

Quantum of Solace

After preparing for this in October, i thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Ok, it was not as good as Casino Royale, but it did a very good job at attempting to beat it. Quite a lot more action than the previous movie, some of it came out of no-where. Good cast, a story that had a few holes in it (yes, it did start from where the last one ended, sort of) but was still solid. Hope Daniel Craig does a few more Bond movies, he is starting to suit this role. 9/10

And how did the local cinema prepare for the showings. By playing previous Bond movie themes, some staff dressing in tuxedo style t-shirts and a massive wall theme on the main screen entrance. And the screen i watched it in was 3/4 full before i got inside.

If it's not as good as Casino Royale, yet it gets 9/10, what are you rating Casino Royale?!

Could still be a 9/10. Its not like films are only split into 10 grades of quality.

Thats why some people do decimal place scoring....:heh: :heh:

If directed at me, Casino Royale was just slightly better and not really worthy of a jump to 10, nor was Quantum deserving of a drop to 8.

Quantum of Solace

Slightly disappointing follow up to a brilliant reboot. The main problems I had were pacing - basically the dialogue parts were just there to set up the next (sometimes pointless) chase sequence, which there were far too many of.

I also had a lack of connection with Bond this time round, it didn't feel personal like it should have and there wasn't sense of danger, he seemed far too indestructible and laid back for me to empathise.

Other than that visually arresting scenes fill this film and it's just well, damn entertaining.

007/10

Oh and for those who want to know.. the gunbarrel sequence makes a welcome return

Quantum of Solace

Despite good performances by Craig and Dench and some great action sequences, the film suffers from a pretty incoherent story. There are some pretty humourous moments though (even if slightly unintentional in places) and some pretty cool references to previous films like

Fields getting "goldfinger'd" by oil

so it was still fairly enjoyable.

Welsh_gamer posted on the bargain board that The King of Kong: A Fistful of Dollars was going for a fiver on HMV. I ordered it, received it and got around to watching it last night.

Obviously its never gonna win any Oscars or anything, but for any self respecting nerd, this docu-film is a must see. Billy Mitchell, the holder of the worlds highest score for Donkey Kong, comes across as a real twat and drama queen. He reminds me a bit of Sylar from Heroes too. The other guy who features is the contender to Mitchells throne- Steve Wiebe. A man who has gone through everything possible to try and prove that a score he submitted was genuine.

Its full of a bunch of geeks, but like I said, its defo worth gettin a hold of if you are into computer games and want some insight into what people go through to try and claim a world record and get into the Guiness Book.

I wanted to punch everyone in that film in the face. And im a pacifist.

Anywho.

Manic

Been meaning to watch for a while. It kinda ambles on, like the characters, and the faux-documentary filming got a tad annoying but JGL is as bizarrely wonderful as ever.

Zack & Miri Make A Porno : Brilliant, love Kevin Smith and this is the best film he's made since Chasing Amy. I read an interview with Smith where he said this is basically the story of how he made clerks at it's heart. Really worth watching if you even remotely like any of his other films. 8.8/10

Quantem of solice

well, not as good as id hoped, but i was hoping to be retriving my arse from the back of the cinema as it had been blown away. (tho i noticed how crap cinema seats are)

i really enjoyed alot of the film, the action was always very good, though the story just seemed to be go there, have a scrap, go there, have a chase, go there, have a shag with a few sentences linking it. that said more layers were added to bond, makes him seem more human then the wanker whod go around making jokes about everything he did.

all in all, it was good, but not great. didnt want my money back after and it was like 1/4 of my weekly money, so it must of done somthing good.

a bit like dark knight, it seemed to build on a first but not really conclude much.

Quantum of Solace

Disappointing. After coming out of Casino Royale two years ago, I wanted to watch it again straight away and there were many memorable scene's I loved and enjoyed to discuss, but none of that happened here. I had a vague idea what the story was about before going in, but it wasn't that intresting and Camille's little side-story was pointless and embarassing. Action was decent, but it was mostly in small dose's, with too much going on and the camera was shaky and zooming in on something too often during these scene's. Felt like the film was trying to be a bit "arty" at times aswell, especially with the horses at the start and the opera soundtrack bit. Cast were on top form, but I felt like Craig looked a bit bored at times. Might enjoy it more on a second viewing on DVD next year and I do hope Craig makes at least another 2 Bond films.

when Bond forgave Mathis. Why did he have to die?

:(

Also loved the gunbarrell scene at the end. Was good to see Craig do the walk!

5/10? I'm undecided. Casino Royale get a 10/10 from me btw.

The Life Aquatic of Steve Zissou

I actually enjoyed it. I know it didn't get stellar reviews (IIRC it got mediocre, 5/10 reviews) but it was a good watch. Don't know whether it was supposed to be humorous at parts but I laugh, for example the gun fights which I'm sure were taking the piss out of action films. It's definitely not something I watch immediately again but I would definitely watch it again down the line.

Transmorphers

Watched this with my mate last night and oh my god is it a bad movie!!!

Just everything that could have been bad was, terrible acting, effects, story.

Plus for some reason the army had a whole section in their ranks for models and they are who they sent out to defeat the robots!

No, not a typo and I loved the Transformers movie

Yeh, it's not a typo. It's an actual movie by two brothers IIRC. They are well known for making hacks of other films, none of which have been pretty good. Really not surprised at 1 out of 10 considering the low budget and general poor quality of their other films.

As Rez mentioned, some people score with decimal places. I gave Solace 9, but as a low 9. Casino got a high 9, but as i don't use decimals, they look the same. Maybe i ought to try using them.

None taken, i just liked the pic. Unlike the movie which is ok.

Surely it would just be easier to just give Solace an 8.

(or a 7, which it deserves)

Let's put it this way... nobody will remember this in 10 years time. That being said, it's above average.

Saw V

I'm not a fan of saw, I doubt I ever will be. But this film tied up all the knots. I wouldn't watch it again, not because I'm not a fan of saw, but because it's one of those you watch once. I'm sick of saw now though, why is there supposed to be 6?

Just back from watching Quantam of Solace. Now it's a good Bond film and I enjoyed it, and it's not as good as Casino Royale, but for the life of me I can't rate the film. I came out of it suitably impressed but also a bit forlorn over what I had just seen. I think I just need to take some more time to let it all sink in I guess, as I had rather a lot on my mind while watching it, and still do. May go see it again to get a proper impression after tomorrow's exam.
