I would say crack it open but I think you've enough willpower to wait it out now for the Switch release. I've several on the Wii, such as Battalion Wars 2, that have suffered the same fate. Be able to retire on these things any year now.

I can't remember a thing about the original game and have yet to play the sequel, despite owning it for a number of years. This may be my first gaming purchase of the year. I would pick it up eventually but I imagine it will have a very small print run.

Oh no, don't say that... I was going to pass it up, and maybe pick it up later, now I'm thinking of buying it 'just in case' to play at an 'unspecified date' between now and never.

Edit - I ordered it... happy? :p Good!

I'm pretty sure it's new news: these were developed by Arc System Works! Ya know, the predominantly 2D fighter guys behind Guilty Gear, Double Dragon and Dragon Ball FighterZ?!

Arc System Works Co., Ltd. was in charge of the development of the software "Another Code Recollection: Two Memories / Door of Memory" for Nintendo Switch TM, which was released today.

Didn't see that coming..like, at all!

Always love those times I find myself surprised to learn the developers behind a game :D but seriously, what a get! It certainly seem like an inspired choice, at least when it comes to their approach to the art style; their games pretty much always look great!

That’s… not who I would’ve expected!

Though I suppose it isn’t too crazy a choice of developer, considering that ASW have their own detective series of games (Jake Hunter); I’d imagine it’s the Jake Hunter staff who would’ve been working on this.

If we'd put our heads together we maybe would have wondered if it were them because of the Cold Case game on 3DS.

...You know what? Makes perfect sense. This is probably the team that's mostly made up of former Cing staff.

They live! :yay:

What's the here consensus on the remake? I just played through these this week, having played through the DS original once back at launch and the Wii sequel once in 2016, and despite being a bit rough in places I thought it was a really good job by Arcsys. The design of  Ashley and most of the other main characters look great, there are some lovely looking visuals at times across both games, but the environments sometimes leave a lot to be desired. In the open spaces of the second game especially the textures of the buildings and landscapes can be quite flat and blurry - they wouldn't look out of place in a budget PS2 game. The voice acting can also be a bit hit and miss, characters like Ashley are great but some of the others feel a bit phoned in. Overall though it's a big upgrade over the originals, hope that it manages to sell reasonably well as it would be great to get another entry down the line - there's definitely scope to catch up with Ashley 10 years later (or they could just give the Hotel Dusk games the same treatment)

Earlier in the week, I sat down and decided to start playing this. It's been a nice slow burn, just playing half hour/an hour on an evening and I've now finished the first game.

I've really enjoyed my time with it. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I can't recall anything about the original DS game and so this was really a new experience for me. Exploring the mansion gave me some non creepy Resident Evil vibes. Exploring each of the rooms, finding the keys, doing puzzles and unlocking doors definitely took me back to the Spencer Mansion.

The story was pretty heartfelt at times, if very predictable. The major plot points were pretty obvious and some were telegraphed in some of the documents you find scattered about the place. I especially enjoyed looking for the origami birds which added a little more to the narrative.

I know Killthenet had issues with the voice acting but I thought it was fine. Granted, I've not played the sequel yet but all the performances in the first game sat okay with me.

Speaking of the sequel, I'm not sure if I'll head straight into it but I am concerned about the length. I think the 5-6 hours of the first game was the perfect length and with the sequel being twice as long, I do wonder if it will feel a little too drawn out.

Considering this was originally a DS game, the team have done a great job giving it an upgrade for the Switch generation. I'm very impressed with what they've done.

I've been playing the sequel. It hasn't grabbed me as much as the first game. I kinda miss the intimacy of the mansion. Exploring the lake resort doesn't have that same feeling. Everything seems a little too spaced out and the narrative isn't as focused as it was in the original. Still, it's been enjoyable enough.

It took a while to get used to the more moody, teenage Ashley and when interacting with the other teenagers, it felt a little like Life is Strange but thankfully without the foul language.

I quite like Matthew as a character. There was a sadness to him and why that is has just been revealed in the chapter I've just finished. I kinda guessed what had happened but it was still a sad and touching scene. :(

Think I've still got a couple of chapters left.

Credits have rolled on the second game. I wasn't expecting it to tug on the old heartstrings like it did. The story revolving around Sayoko's past, the Another project and Ryan's involvement was heartbreaking.

I still think I prefer the first game. There seemed to be a lot of fluff in the sequel, with characters and dialogue not really adding to the main story. Some of the chapters could have be cut from the game and the main narrative wouldn't really have been any different.

I'm not really one for VN types of games but I really enjoyed my time with both of these.
