NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... (23rd April 2021)

Coming to PS4, XBO and PC.

No official date just yet, but they're hoping to have the game release this year to mark the 10th Anniversary of the series.

Shamelessly stolen from PushSquare:

Quote

10 years ago, the original NieR came to PlayStation 3 in the West with no subtitle, and no differences between platforms. However, over in Japan, there were two versions of the RPG: NieR Gestalt on Xbox 360, and NieR Replicant on PS3. The West played the former regardless of hardware, while the latter, which starred a different lead character, remained a Japan-only release. Fast forward to today, and Square Enix has revealed a PS4 revival of NieR Replicant.

Yes, the original NieR is heading to PS4 in what appears to be a remaster, although the publisher doesn't seem to want to call it one. Referring to the release as 'NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139...', the game is being "rebuilt" for PS4 with various updates, including new and re-recorded music, full re-recorded voice acting, a new character, and possibly a new ending (apparently, producer Yosuke Saito isn't sure if this is the case). It'll be the first time this version of the game is made available to Western audiences.

Several key creatives are on board, including the aforementioned producer Saito, composer Keiichi Okabe, and of course, director Yoko Taro. This updated version of Replicant is being developed by Toylogic, although it seems PlatinumGames' Takahisa Taura is involved in some capacity.

I never did play the original Nier but I LOVED Automata. Definitely picking this up.

I was a big fan of Automata too, it was such a unique style and tone for a game (and hoo boy that soundtrack!), but I don't think I got all the endings? I think I've just talked myself into a replay before this drops

I'm guessing the only reason haven't given a window yet is just because of the potential delay to work due to COVID-19? ::shrug: definitely for the best if that's the case.

Do note that the original Nier is... not a good game at all.

It's certainly interesting in terms of story & setting (and the music is great!), but it is NOT fun to play at all.  There's a very good reason why S-E brought in Platinum to make Automata instead of taking another crack at it themselves... S-E are not action game specialists and it really, really shows here.

Is that the actual title?

That's what's in all of the promotion for it, so I guess so?

I'll be honest, I was debating whether to just stick "Remastered" in there instead, but it sounds like they're updating in a lot of ways, so I guess we'll see ::shrug:

I hope Platinum stay away from it. All their character action games feel the same. Feels like they just copy and paste mechanics into each of the games they work on. For me, they are hands down one of the most overrated studios out there and I find stuff like Wonderful 101 far more interesting than their standard games.

I never got around to playing the original NieR, so I'm glad they announced NieR Replicant ver.1.461614659484685... I really enjoyed the world of NieR Automata, but never got around to play it much, so hopefully NieR Replicant ver.1.86685496894563... is gonna change that. I've also heard about the originals terrible gameplay, so hopefully they will fix that in NieR Replicant ver.1.984616546516...

Are people just going to mash the number pad each time they type it, or copy and paste?

Weird.

What are you on about?

I agree with you on Platinum, a very overrated developer. I did like Nier Automata but a lot of their games that received great praise (like Bayonetta) did not click with me at all.

TGS trailer:

22nd April 2021 release date at the end of the TGS trailer.

Now if that's the date we get it over here I have no idea, but only a bit over 6 months for it to be out in some form! And it still looks nice

Sooo...I have a PS3 game called NieR. Never played it...

Is this a remaster of the game I own? I don't understand anything. HELP.

Yes (and no), it's something between a remake and a remaster of the original NieR Replicant which was exclusive to Japan  the NieR released in the west, if I'm remembering right, was based on NieR Gestalt (older protagonist, from what I understand a slightly different story where Nier is the father in Gestalt, vs the brother in Replicant, of the girl on the boxart).

Also gameplay looks to be inspired by Platinum's work on Automata, which is nice to see, and those animations look great!

Also the devs are hilarious and it's worth watching just to see them bring up the debug mode

This game sure gets a lot of trailers...

...but hey, I'm not complaining :D this is probably the best one yet!

Think I'll save that second Automata playthrough for after this instead now, after reading some thoughts of those who played the original and Automata, it seems like I might end up appreciating Automata more that way.

Excited either way, less than two months now!

This is a win for anime: Replicant has topped the UK sales charts.

Suck it and weep, FIFA :p

I'd been looking forward to this for a while, but it was one of the game pre-orders I cancelled a couple of weeks ago after I noticed just how many games on my shelves I still hadn't touched. I went to pre-order it a few times at the start of last week but managed to stop myself

Do hope those playing are having a great time!
