Oh I’m intrigued by this now.  I’d admittedly not heard about these. I see they’re both visual novels and I loved the Zero Escape series.  How do these compare to them?

I've not played them before myself, but I hear that they explore some similar concepts that are seen in 999.  That alone is enough to make me interested :)

Keep in mind that they are apparantly pure VNs though, no puzzle gameplay at all.  Aside from being able to make some choices along the way, there's very little in the way of gameplay.

Just like with the last week of 2024, the first week didn't have any official new eShop release article, so I just went to the recent releases page and picked a handful of games which either appear to be decent by reputation, or aren't at least absolute asset-flips, cash-ins, or A.I copy-pasted, shop-simulation trash. ::shrug:

Again, this week didn't have any official new eShop release article, so I just went to the recent releases page and picked a handful of games which appear to be potentially worth checking out.

Thanks to @Cube for the recently posted articles...

Also, I couldn't wait to replace the old Switch eShop banner with a Switch 2 banner for the eShop news, and start using the new news icon, as it's a matter of months away now anyway, so it'll get people used to seeing the new console, plus it's all backwards compatible, so there we are.

The banner might change closer to release, but this is it for now, though I'm happy to take design suggestions on-board, this is just as simple a banner as I could make, while still retaining the feel of the previous banner, but more importantly putting a little bit more colour back into the weekly updates.

There's plenty more to do on the main page, I know... though I should be putting more time into this on Sundays and Mondays going forward.

See you next week! :peace:

Here are some recently posted articles...

I'll still be using the Switch 2 graphic in the banners for these eShop updates, but I'll keep the news icon to the original Switch... until the switch to... Switch 2 of course, which it really feels like isn't that far away now, especially with the recently announced Switch 2 experience events.

It's excellent to hear that we'll have some N-Europe staff members present at the London event, congratulations to @Dcubed @Glen-i and @Ugh first aid of course. :D I look forward to hearing your feedback on the Switch 2, and I've mentioned that you'll all be there in the article, so hopefully we can get a hands-on article up on the main site, when the time comes.

Before that though, there's still work to be done, and I'll do what I can each week, putting up reviews and the odd news article, plus an overhaul of the side-boxes on the main site, it just depends on what I can get done on Sundays/Mondays at the moment. ::shrug:

@Cube is doing an excellent job of keeping content on the main page with the All N64 games articles, plus with promoting N-Europe across various channels, and it's great to see a new banner up on the main page, as even though the Switch port has its issues, Donkey Kong Country Returns is still a great game, plus it's getting a good reception still overall generally, so it's nice to see that art being used again at least.

We'll see what we can do between now and April in any case, as it would be a good time to start again, plus it's great to have a new Nintendo console just around the corner, so let's hope that the release date isn't too far after April... Q3 2025 at the latest, surely? Not long now either way, and still a fair few Switch games to enjoy before then.

See you next week! :peace:

Definitely check out Riiiiiiddge Raceeeeer 64, as it's an interesting arcade racer, a unique version developed by NST, and it's just a lot of fun to play in Single Player once you get past the CPU behaviour, plus it's a blast to play in Multiplayer, either locally or online.

See you next week! :peace:

Here is a recently posted article...

It's about time Wario Land 4 was added to NSO, though there are a fair few other missing games which could be added, though I get the sense that Nintendo will want to space out the NSO releases between now and the release of the Switch 2, when more console categories will surely be added.

Thank you for participating in the My Nintendo Rewards program.
Beginning at  Mar 25, 2025 at 12:30 AM, users will no longer be able to earn My Nintendo Gold Points.
  • Gold Points will no longer be earned for digital purchases on Nintendo eShop after  Mar 25, 2025 at 12:30 AM.
  • Gold Points will no longer be earned on physical games that release after 3/24/2025. For physical games that released on or before 3/24/2025, Gold Points may still be earned by registering eligible titles within one year from the original release date of the game.
  • All earned Gold Points will continue to be valid and redeemable for 12 months after they are issued.

Well that sucks big fat sweaty hairy balls.

Guess that means that Switch 2 game prices are going up across the board then…

Taking away the gold points as well is such a kick in the teeth though

Because they are replacing it with something else... Right?

I was considering going more digital with Switch 2, but looks like I'll be sticking with physical.

So disappointing that they're getting rid of Gold points - it's such a good incentive to spend in the eShop. Hopefully they have a replacement in mind but I'm doubtful that will be the case

The vouchers weren't available at the launch of the Switch were they? It's possible they'll bring in a Switch 2 voucher scheme later on but it is a bit worrying

They were introduced when NSO was changed to being a subscription-only service, when the initial free period expired (though for some weird reason, the US was the only region that didn't get them; all the way until they were finally introduced in that region in 2023, alongside the launch of TOTK).

That isn't true, they did get them for a brief period.

(Stolen from Reddit, I can't find the original FaQ page, possibly because they updated it)

They got taken away and brought back for TotK.
