It gave me anxiety. Jezus. I will see purple bullets in my nightmares.

It's like an unholy version of The Tetris Effect

I love how the donations literally just completely died during that run! Everyone was completely transfixed!

That's gotta be the highlight of this year's AGDQ.  I don't see anything topping that.  Absolutely insane all the way through!

Nooooo, I missed that run :( Hope it's on YouTube soon. Speaking of, they are a lot slower with uploads this year. Could be because they want people to tune in to the stream. Guess we'll have to wait until after the event is over to have all runs available on the YouTubez.

SGDQ2020 schedule is now up. I don’t know how much I’ll watch this year given it’s online only but we’ll see.

Thanks @Happenstance

It definitely works better with the crowd, but the remote mini one they held near the beginning of the pandemic worked better than I thought it would.  It really does rely on good commentators though.

Ocarina of Time Coop randomizer looks fun. And what's the BotW dog thing about?

Having literally just completed an OoT Randomiser run with @Glen-i a few minutes ago? I can personally vouch for this mod.  It's an absolute riot! :D

The 2021 AGDQ has now been and gone, and yet again raised a ridiculous amount of money (well over £2m)!

I only caught a little this year, and pleased to see some of my very first games get a showing (e.g., Donald Duck Lucky Dime Caper). The videos are all up as usual, and already my mind was blown by the blindfolded Super Mario 64 run!  Not only with the memorisation but the back-up strats to recognise when Mario had missed something, and I’m learning new things about that game all the time, such as the different sound effects where walls join.

I’m beginning to change my opinion on the no-crowds too. While some games lose energy due to lack of reaction, at least you don’t get those late-night games where only a handful of people are left in the auditorium watching.  The tech team for these events do a fantastic job!

Completely missed the live event :(

But I did watch three runs last night.

Comfort Zone (Super Mario World hack)
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3

Loved them all :D

Awesome to see that the event raised a huge amount of money, yet again :peace:

Definitely a unique AGDQ.

I missed the start of the event and have been tuning in and out due to timezones for some events, but some of what I did tune in for were Metroid Prime, Spyro 3, Crash 1, Ratchet 2, Final Fantasy VII (amazing run by the way in how they just warped to the end of the game not too long after leaving Midgar), Majora's Mask, Mario 64 Blindfolded, the TASbot runs of Freedom Planet and Link's Awakening which were both ridiculous, the Sekiro race and the Link to the Past run, well, half of it. What a ridiculous run that was!

Generally the runs I have most interest in seeing are usually on during the evenings here but there are also a fair few that happen while I'm asleep so the Skyward Sword run was not one I was able to catch live, same with Super Mario Sunshine and the catch 'em all run of Pokemon Blue. Also because of when I realised that the event was already on I'd missed the Donkey Kong Country race.

Hoping to see Crash 4 in a GDQ in the future. Having already seen a Devs react to a Crash 4 speedrun for a bit there are some crazy skips you can do in some of the levels.

The Sonic runs were absolutely insane!!

I’m still catching up with the ones I missed, but the Sonic runs, the DKC race, DKR and the Mario Sunshine run are all absolute must watches if you haven’t already seen them! :hehe:

No idea where to put this question and didn't wanna create a new thread:

Recently I've been getting into videos about speedruns. Two YouTube channels have caught my attention and I've seen most of their videos:

Summoning Salt
and
Lowest Percent

Summoning Salt talks more about the history of records and also explains glitches and mechanics here and there. Lowest Percent puts its focus more on how certain speedruns actually came together.

Both are topics that I'm very interested in. So here's my question: Anybody got more resources for me to dive into? Preferably videos/channels of equal quality as the two I mentioned.

If you like Summoning Salt’s channel (and I don’t blame you if you do!), I’d recommend AverageTreyVG, Bismuth and EZScape.  They’re a bit more specialist (and a bit more technical), but I reckon you’ll like what they put out :)

Absolutely insane that we’re now within milliseconds of matching the TAS in real-time! We’ve literally almost reached End Game with the original SMB!

Will be perhaps the greatest milestone in speedrunning history when it happens! :D
