Happenstance Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 Really? I found it to be quite the opposite. Especially since I have that skill that gives you a "critical hit" if you time your button presses perfectly. It's basically Batman-combat, which is awesome : peace: Yeah I've found with the Batman combat people either approach it as button mashing or very precise choices to get the most out of it. I will never hit an enemy more than twice before I move onto another one to allow myself to get the highest combo possible for more powerful attacks and always being free to counter.
Esequiel Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I might have been slightly unfair, i just dont have the required patience for this sort of combat. And anyone who knows me knows that i dont really do stealthy gameplay (thats why iv not picked up the last of us yet), HOWEVER, i dont mind the stealth too much in this game. Jumping on orcs is great fun! Iv had one captain started at the bottom and he runs away from me every time. He currently has a metal plate down the right of his face and his head is bandaged to fuck. When i turned it off i checked how long i had been on it, 8H 39M in one sitting, no wonder my hands are hurting. Has anyone been able to kill 5 flying things yet, i cant find any but iv done loeads of the herb quest things. So yeah i did this game a disservice its very very addictive and playable and people with skill shouldnt find it too button bashy lol 25% of the game through and i might try and 100% it.
Tales Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Bought this today, on PS4, after trading in a few of my old 360 games.
Hero-of-Time Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 @Hero\-of\-Time I have avenged your death lol. Much appreciated! I'm at the final mission now but I wanna wrap up some trophies before I finish it off. The misson where you need to brand 5 warchiefs was a nightmare. They were always surrounded by a bunch of guards who were hard as nails. I eventually managed it by using a mixture of hanging back and picking them off or by getting a lower captain promoted after I branded him.

Its really easy if you have all the captains branded as any bodyguards the chiefs have are now on your side. It made them stupidly easy to brand/kill. I had every one on the army page branded before going for the chiefs. Now they all my bitches. I supposed I should carry on with the story stuff.
bryanee Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Nice! Your own personal army. lol yeah. It took a while though.
Hero-of-Time Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Platinum GET! Really enjoyed this game. The size of the open world was just right and it never felt like a chore to go from one end to the other. The combat was very satisfying and it felt like there was a genuine sense of progression as you unlocked more skills. At the start I got butchered all of the time by regular enemies but by the end I was talking on whole armies by myself. I spent around 28 hours on the game, so there's plenty of game time in this one.
Tales Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Really enjoying this. It was brutally hard and unforgiving in the beginning, but after unlocking more moves and getting better at the combat, it's a lot a fun.
Cube Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Really enjoying this so far. Love the way the enemies work. Also, something really unexpected happened. I was doing my first bow challenge, was rather poor at it and was low on health. All of a sudden, a captain with an effing flaming sword jumps out at me, vowing revenge - we had killed each other before (he didn't have the flaming sword, though). He defeated me pretty quickly. Also, I really like how some of the missions don't really fail. I interrupted a duel and it went horribly. First, the weaker one ran off, I was doing well against the more powerful one when I was ambushed by a third captain (who could make the troops around him coordinate their attacks better), an orc dealt the final blow and became another captain. Cube Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 Completed a mission, then was ambushed by a captain. The captain had a poison sword which did a considerable amount of damage. Then this guy comes and finishes me off:
Shorty Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I've ordered this, hopefully get it today although expect it tomorrow. Really looking forward to some solid single-player action.
Map Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Platinum done and quite possibly my favourite game of the year so far. The combat is outstanding, it's brutal to begin with but like @Hero-of-Time said, by the end of the game you are taking on entire armies on your own and it feels good! Some of the combo counts I was getting we're insane. Where the game shined for me though was the Nemesis system and I can see it being used by other open world games in the future. Monolith did such a good job creating the Orcs character and personality that I was actually getting attached to some of my Orc army towards the end. There was this one Orc, Worg the whiner, who would do nothing but complain when we crossed paths which would always amuse me, "Ive dealt with 3 sieges today and now you turn up" and " Not you again, as if a bad day couldn't get any worse" and so on. So, I went back and branded his whiny head and then helped him whine his way all the way to warchief, and his still standing now. So give this game a go it took me about 35 hours to completion and I can't recommend it enough, and I for one would love to see a sequel.
Esequiel Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I'm 13 hours in at the minute with 48% completion. Not got half the trophies yet though!
Map Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I'm 13 hours in at the minute with 48% completion. Not got half the trophies yet though! I spent a lot of time messing with the Nemesis system so it can probably be completed quicker, I branded almost every captain available! It's a very doable Platinum, only a couple of tricky trophies.
Murr Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 My friend let me borrow this last night, and keep for the week. So far 3 hours and 45 minutes played. Really enjoying it. It looks great and controls awesomely. Probably a stupid question, but the captain and such that you kill. I've killed all the bottom row (minus 1) and a lot of the middle row... once they're dead... are they dead for good? If so I don't know if i'm getting through them too quickly? Also have you had encounters with a captain, and then find 2 more are involved in the battle? I've managed to take out 3 captains within one battle on one occasion due to this. Good fun though and suspect i'll be plowing some time in this weekend.
Shorty Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 They're not dead for good unless you kill them in a certain way.
Tales Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 They will occassionaly be replaced by other Uruks. Uruks who kills you often take the vacant position.
Murr Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Cheers guys, I was wondering if I was focusing on them too much and if they'd be gone for good.
Babooo Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Just picked this up after trading in Destiny. Awesomely good game. Planning on putting some major hours into this bad boy before I start work again next week!
Cube Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Photo mode has been added to the PC version
Babooo Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Played a total of 4 hours on this game today (just bought it in the afternoon). Lovely little game. Reminds me of Assassins Creed, the Batman games as well as a bit of Far Cry 3. Loving it at the mo!
Dog-amoto Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Was thinking of picking this up. Two questions though - do I need to have seen the films/read the books to appreciate this? Also, I see loads of comparisons to the Arkham games, which is great as I loved those, but from the videos I've seen, the only similarity seems to be in the combat. What I really love about Arkham is the exploration, seeing somewhere you can't get to and backtracking once you've acquired a certain item. The same approach with the Zelda/Metroid games. Is there any element of that in this game, or do the similarities end with the combat?
