I think we hear the "PS4 changed my life" narrative aplenty and I'm glad to see there's a counterbalance. You know.. because we all have different tastes and opinions

I don't personally get the "I bought a PS4 and now I love the WiiU more" thing at all. I look at my PS4 friend list every day and there's usually 15 or so people on there, mostly Blade and Kav doing Destiny raids or us lot on FIFA. Sorry but...you're not playing those on a Nintendo system, are you? Aside from Mario Kart, there's no real Nintendo community knocking about where people on here meet up to play games and chat about them. (can't do that, no voice chat).

I've found the N-E (and wider) community on Miiverse to be just at the right level for me. I don't have time to game online in raids that last hours or what have you - even playing online in Mario Kart is something I rarely get the chance to do at the moment. The sort of non-invasive social dimension that Miiverse represents is great because you can dip in whenever, see what your mates are upto, what they're enjoying, artworks etc.

I just bought a One and have been really enjoying the different games that has to offer, but I feel it compliments my Wii U nicely.

 

The best thing about it though, is that it has given me the opportunity to play games I haven't experienced before. Forza Horizon 2 for example. Never been interested in car games or simulations throughout all my gaming years. But when I got a hands on with it at a mates and it piqued my interest I thought I'd take the plunge, new console an all that! It's brilliant. I can't put it down. I'm playing co-op in it with a mate I haven't seen or spoke to since March, catching up as we play together, it's great! It's adding another layer to gaming for me. So I can appreciate how people want the same functions in the Wii U.

 

It's the same as how it was last gen for me though, the Wii gave me the Nintendo exclusives that in my eyes, are not to be missed out on, and the 360/ps3 provided the third party and online games I liked to play. Both do things the others can't and both have their plus and minus points.

 

Some people think in an ideal world one console will fit all and do everything but I'd hate that. I like that there's something different on the table with all 3 consoles, it gives people a choice. The only downside to that is when someone is called out for making their choice and made to feel like they've done something wrong, which pisses me off.

 

I'm always knew it would be 2 consoles for me, and I am happy with that. I understand those who don't want to though but can't help but feel like they might miss out. And as a fan of gaming (obviously) that's quite sad

What my PS4 has done for my thoughts on my WiiU is absolutely nothing at all.

 

What my Xbox 360 did for my thoughts on the WiiU is make me angry at Nintendo's blatant lies to us about online and 3rd Parties as well as pity the console for being backwards in regards to it's features. Particularly voice-chat.

 

There's the tragedy. A console released back in 2005 was better in this regard than the WiiU.

 

 

It's simply got to a point for me where I don't even want to play the multiplayer games on the console.

 

Mario Kart online? It feels soulless without voice chat.

Smas Bros online? I'm betting it'll feel the same to me.

Splatoon... again, without voice chat I'm just not interested.

 

These 3 games were games I was looking forward to. I was looking forward to laughing and joking with my friends whilst playing because that's fun.

 

As I'm looking to games I want to get for my WiiU, they're all single player experiences now, Bayonetta 1&2, Zelda and Xenoblade... but that's about it, I can't think of anything else at all now. Here's hoping for a Metroid.

 

What I'll be doing soon is trading some games in to fund for my PS4 games, including MK8... I just don't play it because of the lack of voice chat.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham arrives in November and will be the latest major entry in the popular series; it's coming to Wii U while there'll also be an alternative version on 3DS. Warner Bros. Interactive has now announced day one DLC for the title along with a Season Pass. The trouble is that the Wii U isn't listed as a platform for the Season Pass, with its fate on the individual DLC packs being unclear.

The Dark Knight Pack (available launch day)

Experience the heart-pounding chase scene from the iconic film complete with cool vehicles and explosive action. Batman 75th Pack (available launch day)

Play as Joker and Harley, setting up a variety of celebration set pieces. Be the Batman and play as some of the most iconic faces of Batman through the years, including his first appearance in Detective Comics #27.

 

Access to Future DLC Content

Gain access to three additional game packs, featuring new playable characters, vehicles and levels. Details about the additional content will be revealed at a later date.

 

In total there'll be six DLC packs, each with a mission level that can also be played in Free Play — over 40 characters, vehicles and customisations will be included across the packs. The Season Pass will cost $14.99 / £12.79, with each individual pack costing $2.99 / £2.55 — we've reached out for clarification on whether individual packs will be available on Wii U.

 

It's surprising that this Season Pass DLC isn't listed for Wii U at present, especially as Nintendo versions of these games typically perform relatively well — better than on PC, at least. Whether there are issues and limitations with the Wii U infrastructure — such as the eShop — with season passes is unclear.

 

It shouldn't happen but it continues to do so.

He shouldn't have lied. It was the E3 2011 interview with Geoff Keighly I think, he said it would have online features on par with the other consoles, he was even asked about voice chat and he blatantly said it'd be there. That's a lie.

 

On a positive note though. Zelda and Xenoblade look incredible and interest me more than any other games on any console (is that better?).

@Fierce_LiNk you're hanging out with the wrong people! me and my friends have set aside Thursday night for a Nintendo evening centered around the new MK DLC. We all own other consoles, some all three, but we always keep coming back to Nintendo

 

That's good that you can do that and I do have some friends that would usually pop around when I was living back in Wales who would play Nintendo games. We do this when we're all together. Sadly, life changes and people move away, there's work and relationships. Life gets in the way and it makes it harder to do these things. That's partly where the online components of the Nintendo systems don't help because it should accommodate this type of audience, but it doesn't.

 

The other side of the coin is that I am a junior school teacher and can't name a single child who owns a WiiU. Or a teenager for that matter. They're just not growing up with the system, whereas there are tons who have PS3s, PS4s, 360s, some Ones, and iPads. It's all Minecraft these days. Where are the next generation of Nintendo fans going to come from? That's what I was alluding to in part of my post. However, I still know tons of 3DS owners, so they're still "in" in that respect.

 

Ultimately because that's not what's inportant to me when I play games, I don't give a fuck if there are a hundred people playing the ps4. I mainly play games on my own, the social stuff is good in fifa, but in general I don't really care for it in all honesty. I just want great fun games and nintendo make the games I enjoy playing , leagues ahead of anyone else.

You keep banging on about ps4 is great because it's popular, it's what people are talking about, people are playing... I hope you don't base all your decisions on what is popular, otherwise you'll be watching the very worst of films and TV and listening to God awful music.

Even in real life, I don't come across many people who even mention Nintendo unless it's either about retro games (from people who used to play the N64 or SNES, who have since moved on to the XBOX or PS systems) or people talking about Pokemon. I feel that Nintendo are becoming a bit irrelevant to modern gamers and I'm finding that a lot of children (and people new to gaming) are growing up with the likes of Minecraft rather than Mario.

 

Which is where I was challenging the relevancy of Nintendo and how irrelevant they are becoming to the modern gamer, especially as they are losing key franchises (Call of Duty, FIFA) and can't obtain other key games (Destiny, Minecraft). There is absolutely NOTHING there about me following a crowd because I do no such thing. I bought another system because I wanted guarantees that it would be getting third party games and support, online components, etc. Basically all of the things that Nintendo can't do.

 

 

But I presume 3rd party is your biggest gripe. Rightly so, it's annoying, but I guess I just find the ps4 incredibly dull - the look, feel, style and mood of it all and most of its games,. Some great put stuff in there and I'll pick it up, but I play my Wii u infinitely more still and will continue to do so.

 

If it works for you, then great. But, it isn't enough for some of us. (myself and Lostmario, for instance). Personally, I find Nintendo stale and don't regret branching out one bit. Looking at the amount of money and time I have spent gaming in the past year, I wouldn't be gaming right now if I didn't own a PS4 because I had stopped turning my WiiU on prior to that.

I've finished them, now what do I play on it?

 

For me, I had no choice but to buy a PS4 and the selection of games available to me now is so good.

 

For me as a online gamer, its gaming heaven.

 

For the Wii U, who knows when I will buy my next game. Probably Zelda or Xenoblade late next year.

When I was a teenager, I was the only person with a Gamecube in my school. Everybody else was utterly clueless about what it was, what kind of games it had, and opted to go for the PS2 instead because of Pro Evo (aside from the few who had an Xbox). Sure, used to have an N64, but nope, no 'Cube other than mine.

 

Gameboy was king, though. Everybody played Pokémon until Ruby&Sapphire, and even then some continued.

 

From School Years 8 to 12 (that's from when I was 13 until 17 years of age), I've heard all sorts of ignorance and misinformation ("This magazine did a comparison between Xbox and PS2, but Gamecube wasn't in it, so it's not on the same league" , "Gamecube is, like, only platforming games, man", etc.), so it was pretty clear PES and marketing were the sole reasons behind their console decision.

 

The class you're teaching, sure, Minecraft is what they like, but that situation is not that different from what I just described: it's really just one game. It's available on PC, too.

 

That people want to criticise Nintendo for whatever reason is fine. But claiming that this is recent, that today's kids are the ones not growing up with Nintendo, that's misleading. That kind of argument is 10 years late at the very least.

Yeah, basically the library that is there already is heavily beefed up by ported titles (many of which multiplatform gamers had no reason to buy again) and third party games. It's nice to look at, laid out like that, but it's the kind of thing to reflect back on rather than to think of it as a sign of things to come. Third party is dead, so don't expect that collection to grow much in a hurry.

@Sheikah I'm not saying it compares to what's on the other systems at all. Just saying it's a lot better than Nintendo's awful past online efforts - ie. almost non existent, and friend codes!

 

To be honest, for me, it's sufficient as I'm not a massive online gamer who uses voice chat all the time, but I totally understand that some people really miss that. Sure, it'd be cool if something like Smash had it, but whether or not it has it has no bearing on whether I'll buy the game or not. It's a supplementary feature.

 

And yes, it really should have been built into the OS.

Whether you meant it or not, and whether it's just me who interpreted it as this or not, to me it read as kids don't like Nintendo, no ones playing Nintendo as much as ps4, it isn't as relevent and all this as an attack on Nintendo. This reads to me like you base quality, to some degree, on popularity. I just don't see that as a valid argument. Hence my comment on other mediums. I don't care how relevant or popular Nintendo or anything is with regards to my enjoyment of it. I don't care more people will be chatting about interstellar or marvels latest more than babadook or about Taylor swifts new album than the sea of bees... It doesn't have a say in quality.
