The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Wait for it to be like Sticker Star where Nintendo removed all outside aid whatsoever which infuriated people. No matter how much some may profress is, hardly anyone really wants games to be like they were during the NES days where trial and error were essential and games were filled with inane 'puzzles', like the infamous Simon's Quest.

Hopefully Aonuma is able to find a balance.

Quite.

It's not the hand-holding that's the problem, more that Nintendo has been setting up recent Zeldas as a series of "scenes" to play through, with minimal exploration. That and the fact they no longer think we can use R-triggers or C-sticks, resulting in very simplified games.

Ironic that the guy with a Spirit Tracks avatar should complain that recent Zeldas are too simple. That game had some of the most brilliantly designed puzzles in the entire series! (so much so that it feels like you have to almlst "break" the game to do so!)

TBH, I think that the more recent Zeldas like Twilight Princess, Spirit Tracks and Skyward Sword were complex enough. Sure, they can be a bit overbearing with the hints they give you (SHUT UP FI!), but they all have fantastic dungeon design, more interesting and evolved combat with each subsequent game and brilliant puzzles. Coming off The Wind Waker HD, you can tell that they definitely responded to the criticism about the game being too easy and the puzzles too simple in that game from Twilight Princess onwards (even Phantom Hourglass shows evidence of this, and that was designed to be an introductory Zelda game - I played it again only recently, so it's still fresh in my mind; the puzzle and dungeon design was a lot better than I had remembered actually!)

Oh, for goodness' sake, it's a Darknut. It's no more Spirit Tracks than Wind Waker. Besides, you've deliberately ignored what I said - not that the puzzles aren't complex, just that (remakes aside) Nintendo no longer trusts us to explore or use "complex" controls.

I'd argue that the controls in Skyward Sword were inherently 'complex' given the nature of the motion controls. Skydiving, flying and swimming all took practice to master, which seemed to put a lot of players off.

Skyward Sword was clearly an attempt by Nintendo to take the series in a new direction (one which I personally enjoyed). So I wouldn't rule out exploration aspects of the series returning, as it seems that they are not adverse to change.

Surely if anything the controls in Skyward Sword were more complex than in previous Zeldas? (even ignoring the hugely increased complexity of the 1-1 motion controls, you also have the dash move, wall running, new 1st person actions, waypoint setting etc)

And it's not like there wasn't a strong emphasis on exploration in the more recent Zeldas (except for Spirit Tracks, which was quite literally "on rails" ;) ). The ground based areas in Skyward Sword for instance were large, largely open and devoid of typical landmarks or guided "corridor" areas (which is why they implimented the user made waypoint system, so you can set your own landmark beacons); this was done because they wanted to design areas that could be remixed and reimagined throughout the game, in order to pray on your knowledge you gain of each area.

The only real issue is their increasing reliance of hints and handholding by ancillary characters and intrusive reminders (YES I KNOW THAT A FUCKING RED RUPEE IS WORTH 20 GREEN RUPEES, STOP REMINDING ME!!!). The game designs across the more recent games themselves is fine really, but seeing them put an end to those intrusive duur-brain hints is most welcome :) (especially now that we have things like the Sheikah stones, Miiverse and Super Guide; those things aren't necessary anymore).

Gamexplain's analysis is usually a lot better, they've not done the new trailer yet though.

Eh, No! I hate IGN and I like Gamexplain but IGN are far better at these videos. Just look at the 2 videos I posted on the Super Mario 3D World thread as an example of a comparison. They are clearly better and far quicker on the ball when it comes to releasing these videos.

Heavily torn between my gratuitous dislike for GAME and that awesome preorder bonus. Especially consdiering GAME don't even seem to mention it?

I might just save a fiver(cheaper+points at shopto) and fore-go it knowing that I haven't helped GAME's continuing shiteness.

Yeah, it's a nice item, but there's no way I'm dealing with GAME ever again. :nono:

Seriously, they could be offering a life-size treasure chest, made out of real gold, delivered by a gorgeous woman cosplaying as Zelda, who would then accompany me on an all expenses paid trip to Japan for a VIP tour of Nintendo HQ...

And I still wouldn't order from them. :heh:

No you would, we all would, and we'd damn well feel dirty inside as we enjoyed ourselves

Game aren't even mentioning it yet! so Nintendo announce this on Facebook (and i assume others) and they can't be bothered to update their on info.......why do GAME get good pre-orders that should be available from everywhere!

They're basically the only nationwide dedicated games retailer left that has street presence even though that got diminished last year. It's them or HMV pretty much and they almost went bye bye.

Wow that Zelda 3DS design is lovely

I'm afraid you're completely wrong. IGN may release them quicker, but Gamexplain get straight to the point and uncover FAR more secrets and hidden details than IGN ever have. Mario 3D World was a good example, IGN seemed clueless about a lot of things Gamexplain knew. The latter's video was outstanding.
