Now that is what I like to see. Although they blatantly turned death off, seeing the controller being passed along so it's no longer in control of the designated player is the best way to show the footage is not bullshit.

Well played Sony, you've learnt well.

That's pretty much how I play horror games. I freak out and forget what controls are.

Sony really need to get their marketing right for this. The product is looking brilliant, now make sure everyone understands that. This is a good step. Mooooore.

I really hope they've got enough content to constantly keep hyping it all the way until E3, that'd put Microsoft in one hell of an awkward situation.
Is it better to do that, or save it for E3 now? I just brought this point up with Zechs...

The advantage Sony has as far as I see it, is they revealed first and got the press attention, Microsoft could do the most incredible reveal tomorrow, but the advantage Sony still holds is that they both have E3 to come, so it can do it all over again there... by which time both reveal conferences will have been forgotten.

I think the space between now and E3 will be third party territory, they're free to announce what they're working on. E3 will be for the real big games - I suspect the likes of EA will go big - and most importantly Sony's first party.

I think this looks fucking awesome. So many things I loved about it at first I thought all the city was just a skybox but no they then send the player flying through it all hanging by a rope!

I hope this is Sony's flagship title. I really hope at E3 we don't see the likes of Uncharted turn up ready for launch (that doesn't mean not at all) so that Killzone can become the title to own. There is something about Killzone that has not quite let it reach the heights of Halo and COD and I have no idea why because it's such a great franchise to me, (sure Rico was a knobhead but you can't let one guy cloud your vision.) it does seem like shooters resonate in quite the same way as 360.

Naughty Dog will likely be towards the end of 2014. I think Killzone's biggest competition is Destiny.

Again though Bungie property so it's going to be more of a thing for Xbox fans just because of that loyalty to them. Hopefully though the exclusive content for PS4 is something worthy but you never know and with the game hitting multiple this gen and next gen consoles it's not a sure thing it will be a big hitter.

Personally I just can't see past Killzone as my must buy 1st day purchase if I get it at launch.

I may be mistaken but don't ND have 2 teams now though? One has been working on TLoU and the other team...?

Yeah they have the Uncharted team and the TLOU team.

Even though they have two teams though, it's quite likely they'll hold Uncharted back into the second half of 2014 and give Killzone, Infamous, Drive Club etc... the chance to grab some sales.

I think Destiny will be the bigger game. Its on 4 systems. Only problem is its held back by 360 and PS3. Personally I would prefer it was next gen only. Right now what we know is vague buts like a MMO lite game.

Killzone has a chance to shine and grow further in popularity. Multiplayer especially if they go the KZ2 route. They brought back staff from KZ2 so lets hope so. Next gen means lots of opportunities and gameplay wise we dont know much yet. The scripted demo is focused on showing graphics more than anything. So lets see.

There are other games too. Dust 514 will probably go out of beta on PS4 lol. Right now its too early on PS3. Only 32 players. Hardcore EVE style design. You have to buy copies of guns and equipment because when you die they are gone. Needs to do more on the gameplay side technically. PS4 is much better tech wise.

Planetside 2 is a big one. Sony need to be careful about that as its a ground up pc game with a different business model (free to play). Its attracted many of the old famous Counterstrike players. Sequel to PS1 which was subscription based so basically no one played that. 2000 players on screen. Easily my favourite pc game right now. Ambitious and very fun take on competitive fps. Its very much like Killzone and BF gameplay wise. Lots of hip fire and recoil.

Its treated like a subscription game so will be supported with tons of new content for years and regularly. Boxed fps games reset to 0 each time. BF3 for example doesnt add to your copy of BFBC2. They are seperate games. Your unlocks go back to zero. Your old maps are not compatible. This isnt an issue with Planetside 2 which is planned to get support through next gen in terms of new content and engine/graphic upgrades. Not to mention better support.

Ofcourse you then have COD and BF4. There are others too. Maybe Crysis 3 enhanced edition etc.

Killzone Shadow Fall PS Meeting demo using 3GB of RAM for graphics is an eye-opener... and that's with FXAA (no multi-sampling).

Source

Suspected as much. Good to have some confirmation. I wonder what difference another 4GB will make.I hope DF get to do a real in-depth comparison with the 3GB demo.

Edit:

And here's a video I don't understand. Skip to 2:15 for the pretty bits.

MOAR:

Killzone Shadow Fall, one of Sony’s big titles during its PlayStation 4 reveal, used just 3 of the system’s 8GB of RAM for video. That’s according to a new 100 page technical breakdown published by the developer today and available online.

The presentation highlights a couple of key bullet-points, namely that Guerrilla are working on two games (one is an unannounced new IP), and that Killzone Shadow Fall will be a PS4 launch title.

It goes on to demonstrate some technical elements to the demo, highlighted in the YouTube clip above. The demo offered up 60 AI characters, 940 entities, 8,200 physics objects, 500 particle systems, 120 voices and 110 ray casts.

There’re a lot of slides about their own profiler, which Guerrilla say they had to produce because SCE’s tools weren’t quite there yet.

Characters are built from around 40,000 polygons, that’s four times as complex as those seen in Killzone 3. There’s also plenty of lighting discussion, if you’re that way inclined.

Guerrilla say the PS4 is “really easy to program for”, the GPU is “really fast” and the speedy RAM is “awesome”. Obvious words from a first party developer, but good to hear all the same – it does feel like Sony have completely changed their approach to hardware this generation.

You can download the pdf HERE if you need.

Bit misleading there because 1.5GB of RAM was used for non graphics related purposes according to those slides, leaving "only" 3.5GB of RAM unaccounted for (and out of that, you've probably got the OS taking up 0.5-1GB of that, so that's actually about 2.5-3GB left over).

That's still a hell of a lot though!

Yeah, that occurred to me after going through the doc. Still, that's without optimisation so there's that to consider, too.

One thing that came out of going through that doc was just how impressive Killzone 3's character models look.

Wow that's exciting news! Can't wait to see more from this in a few weeks at E3! :)

Also great to hear that yet another New Sony IP is in the works!! :D

I'm really intrigued to see what GG do with a new IP. I've only ever known them on Killzone.

Looks great. The most next gen game so far. I like the extra details in the modeling and the city is gorgeous. Lots of stuff on screen. I hope there are more exploring moments.

lol looks like they have tons of polygons being used/wasted on those little roundish things on the suit. Bodes well for future games. The models in Sony's first party games are a cut above everything else out there. The scenery in Shadow Fall is also godly. Love the curved structures etc. in the trailer :)

One thing I like is how this isn't on the PS3. Its fully next gen. Nearly all the fps are cross gen right now.

Yes no matter how good they make these cross gen titles look they still can't escape the fact that they are uprezzed current gen games with slightly better textures etc...

Killzone: Shadow Fall Has Made Me A Believer

Everyone give this a read. Can't believe I'm going to say this...but this sounds like an absolute winner. Fourth time lucky, apparently.

Guerrilla Games is crafting what, to me, is most reminiscent of what a game would look like if Killzone collided with something more akin to Crysis. No, Shadow Fall doesn’t take place on a single wide open map that can be explored at will, but it does take place on a series of large, non-linear maps that encourage you – and outright require you – to tackle concurrent objectives in any order of your choosing. As a result, Shadow Fall is immediately deeper and more tactical than any of the core Killzone titles that came before it. And yes, if the map I saw and played on is any indication, the game’s bright aesthetic carries over from what we first witnessed back in February.

...

It was up to me to find a way back to the safe side of Vekta, which required me to accomplish a few tasks, including disabling the alarm system in the area, obliterating the anti-aircraft guns that destroyed by ship and left me in the forest in the first place, and seizing a Helghan dropship to make my great escape. There appeared to be other optional tasks, too, and all of this – save the actual escape – could be accomplished in any order.

Immediately, Shadow Fall felt unlike any Killzone game that came before it, not only because of its non-linear mission structure and wide-open, fully explorable maps, but because it’s also a technically deeper experience from a gameplay perspective. This isn’t just a shooter anymore; it’s far more complex, so much so that I handed the DualShock 4 over to a guy from Guerrilla after being ruthlessly massacred several times so I could at least see the proper experience.

Yeah i am surprised its more open ended. Objectives can also be done in any order. Good news for the single player. Reminds me of N64 Goldeneye. The 'Owl' is also a good idea and mixes up your play options. I like the idea of a 15m zipline you can use almost anywhere in the map. I also like how the maps are quite large. Less loading sequences. You can choose areas of a map to focus on. Good stuff.

The game is pretty rough looking still. Its running at 60fps mostly with dips to below 30fps apparently. Which means still lots of work to do. Multiplayer will be shown later.

High quality trailer(much nicer than youtube) if you like downloading:
