General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

I wonder how many of them 3DS/2DS sales came from them Pokemon + 2DS £99 bundles?

Not quite on point - but does anyone know if there have been any 2DS specific sales figures released in any territory? Would be curious to see how it's been doing; but I presume that and XLs are all lumped in with 3DS figures?

For reference the PS4 sold 530k in 2013 in the UK.

Dont know how Nintendo dont look at the hardware sales of the 3DS/2DS and come to the conclusion that software is too expensive. They had the #1 selling platform in the UK in 2013 but the software charts really dont reflect that.

lets remember that 3DS has low output of big titled western games compared to home consoles.

Also outside of nintendo published games, we see little advertising.

That's true but what I mean is we don't see games rechart. I would of expected the 3DS /2DS to of sold well over holidays but the price of games means people are not purchasing various titles with the hardware. Reduce the price of the old games so picking up 2 or 3 games is more affordable.

How well did Zelda do this Christmas? I ended up having to get a download code for it instead of the physical copy I wanted because it was out of stock everywhere in town. Just wondering if that was because of popularity or low stock to begin with.

Zelda was last charted at 31 week 51. I wouldnt be surprised if Nintendo were quite reserved in there shipment.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-01-13-xbox-360-was-the-uks-best-selling-home-console-in-2013

The Xbox 360 was the UK's best-selling home console in 2013, figures shown to Eurogamer reveal.

The data from UK numbers company Chart-Track indicates that Xbox 360 beat both next-gen consoles, but that 3DS - when you lump together all models in its hardware family - was top.

2013 UK hardware chart

1. 3DS (including 2DS, XL) - up 4 per cent

2. Xbox 360 - down 30.7 per cent

3. PS4

4. PS3 - down 31 per cent

5. Xbox One

6. Vita - down 41 per cent

7. Wii U - up 41.5 per cent

8. Wii - down 72 per cent

PlayStation 4 came third in 2013's console race, despite being released for the least amount of time.

Xbox One could only manage fifth place, behind PlayStation 3.

Individually, sales of the original 3DS plummeted 69.9 per cent, but this was counteracted by sales of the 3DS XL model (up 51 per cent) and the launch of 2DS.

Counting all 3DS incarnations altogether, Nintendo's handheld was one of only two existing systems to show positive growth (combined sales were up four per cent on 2012's totals).

The other console to show positive gains was Wii U - although this is more due to it only launching right at the end of 2012.

Looking just at 2012's figures, Wii U was out-performed even by PlayStation Vita, despite Sony's struggling handheld itself falling 41.5 per cent in sales compared to 2012.

In total, 2013 hardware sales were up 5 per cent on 2012 (although 38 per cent in revenue) thanks to the launch of PS4 and Xbox One.

The two next-gen consoles accounted for around a third of all hardware bought last year - even though they only launched in November.

Good to see the 3DS went up as it would of been a worry if not with the 2DS release and the software that came out.

Wii U selling worse than the Vita when the Vita itself had a shocking year is disastrous. Vita sales dropped of a cliff and the Wii U couldnt even beat that.

The Vita had so many cut price deals in 2013 but they seemed to of had very little impact @ retail.

Someone on gaf did the estimates based on 2012 numbers

So, for 2013, we can estimate this

3DS (+4%) - >644,611

360 (-30.7%) - >530,000

PS4 - 530,000

PS3 (-31%) - >413,992

ONE - 364,000

VITA (-41%) - >159,210

WII U (+41.5%) - >120,200

WII (-72%) - >53,198

Early Famitsu numbers are in...

Famitsu:

Kirby 225448

3D World 14584

3DS 65657

Vita 31382

PS3 14869

Wii U 14029

Kirby did well, Vita held on surprisingly well and Wii U had the expected drop :( (on the plus side, it's still tracking ahead of the GCN's equivent week [week 2 2003], which was 13,526 - still a poor result though :( )

Everything dropped. This was the week known for the worst sales in Japan. The total hardware sales for last week was 50k less than the 3DS alone sold in the previous week. Come on...

Everything did drop but just look at that Wii U release list and you see a whole heap of gaps. The sales are going back to under 10k a week. It even managed to sell less than the poor 20k this time last year.

And what are other consoles' lineups. Almost as barren I would wager. This is always the worst time of year.

Also, you include some download titles and not others, such as Party Find The Mistake. If you're going to make a list to show how the lineup is barren, at least do some research and include either all software, or just have retail versions.

And there you go again looking at what other consoles are doing? It's irrelevant what they are like as it doesnt change the fact that the Wii U lineup is barren when they console needs many more games. Your automatic defence mode whenever the wii u is up for criticism is 'what are the other consoles doing'.

Stop trying to move the goalposts. I remember posting on here early 2013 and your defence for the poor sales was 'nobody buys stuff after christmas'. Guess what the sales didnt get much better well after christmas.

I really dont see how you can this always the worst time of the year as if from March onwards the Wii U is going to have a whole heap of software being released. Again early 2013 had a shocking Japanese release schedule of games on wii u and it didnt get much better through spring/summer. I dont see how this year will be any different when sales are still a joke and third parties are not interested but please do go ahead and explain why this wont be the case?

inFamous had better hit its end of March date, it's the only game that I really want for my PS4 at the moment and I thought that it was basically set in stone by now... if it does get delayed though, oh well. ::shrug:

Just means that it will be all the more worth the wait I suppose.

Incorrect. You also want/need Resogun.

I already have it, Resogun is fantastic but I'm looking forward to buying my first retail game for the system that I've actually chosen and that isn't bundled, Killzone isn't bad but... it's still launch-fodder at best.

I've played Resogun a hell of a lot more than that, with it being a digital title it really speaks volumes about how little the PS4 actually had at launch, heck the Wii U had a better launch line-up. :p

But I digress, I didn't buy a PS4 for the average launch selection, I bought it for the long-term potential. :)

why is you comparing Wii U sales against Vita acceptable but when @Serebii compares Wii U release schedule to PS4 schedule you call him out? So basically comparisons are only allowed if they favour Sony.

January is kind of a crappy month for hardware sales in general. Even the 3DS' sales have dropped massively and that's with the release of Kirby TD! (Which will probably go on to crack a million in the end - or at least get reasonably close to it)

February usually cares a bit better, but sales don't normally see a significant uptick until March and April.

Because the wii u is in the race with the vita for last place. I simply use the poor vita numbers to emphasise just how bad the wii u has sold.

Considering the PS4 hasn't even launched in Japan I don't see how a comparison can be made.

Like I said if the wii u had a stellar release list post March then yeah I could see the point but it doesn't.

Think the 3DS has peaked. Even with such a strong 2013 it was down yoy in Japan and that was with Pokeman and MH4. Kirby sold really well and the 3DS numbers were lower than I thought they would be. How many more can they really sell? A cheap 2DS needs to hit Japan but I think we will see a new 2016 maybe late 2015.

The Wii U is underpowered because of earthquakes.

Tbh it's a good tactic to keep power consumption down - make a console that no one's using!

I don't understand how the hell the 3DS went DOWN year on year with all the incredible software it had?!

I'd hazard at saturation of parts too like SCG says, how many more 3DSes can you sell when you're already blowing the market away?
