LTD across the same lifespan is just as valid really, the only difference monthly will show is the flow. But still, making any kind of comparison between different generations when the markets are so fundamentally different is a fools errand anyway.

The market being different is exactly the point I've been making. It's contracting.

@Serebii

I don't think it's contracting at all, it's just far more diverse. It used to be nearly completely focused on the big 3 and PC, wheras now smartphones host a lot of indie titles, and as oppose to what used to generally be a hardcore audience, a huge amount of people now play games on PC thanks to the likes of Steam.

Just look at the two billion dollar sell out of Minecraft or these huge releases such as GTA5 and Destiny, you'd never have had anything on that scale 15 years ago.

Specific hardware might not be doing as well as before but I'd say gaming as a whole is a lot bigger now.

Gaming is far bigger now than it ever was. It's no longer something that only the 'hardcore' care about; Nintendo changed that with the Wii and it's continuing to expand and expand. The fact that gaming has overtaken Film in terms of revenue is spectacular.

Not overly impressed with Super Smash Bros. 3DS debut. I had hoped and expected better. Others have stated elsewhere how it's a sad reflection of the UK's gaming market.

I'm really surprised it's that low actually, I guess it doesn't help being released just after FIFA. But man, the UK's obsession with FIFA is beyond me.

blame UK 3DS gamers for not buying it.

watch the sales in france and germany go crazy!

Both bang on, imo. The 'market' has grown! Instead of having just one or two stalls selling their very specific sorts of produce, you've got more that are offering different things. It literally is like a market that has grown. I know people playing games I'd never have once seen playing them(additionally including smartphone/social media etc games - whether you agree with them or not it is part of the gaming market). Even people who used to play games a bit are still playing games but I find they're playing more with it. There's some who are the old grannies who don't like what the market's become though, saying how it isn't like it used to be, that Edna gets her apples somewhere else now and that's the fault of everyone else, but really...I just see it as all being good. More people to meet, more conversations to be had, just more, in lots of ways. Things change, and it can be a shame to lose what we once knew, but I'm not going to pretend it's fine or terrible and just lust after the 'good ol' glory days', I find it exciting when I really think about it all.

I'm really surprised it's that low actually, I guess it doesn't help being released just after FIFA. But man, the UK's obsession with FIFA is beyond me.

Think as well though - how big's the WiiU/3DS/Nintendo and then Smash market over here? We aren't the biggest isle, economy's still a bit wank for some, and there's still plenty of time. Why would you jump on Smash3DS right now? Like actual question, why would you need to jump on release? I'm 50/50 on it, getting more tempted by the day, but really I'm keener for it on WiiU - with money being tight and making a choice - would I double-dip for both or just wait out the WiiU version?

I think it'll pick up with time. Maybe much more in next couple of weeks - I'd guess maybe the UK is a more skeptical/cautious market atm, and waiting to see the worth. I for one have been trying to get word of mouth impressions before I buy it(did everyone get that advance demo btw, or just us? I found it...different, with that) and I'll probably eventually pick it up cos Smash, but I'm in no great rush after my existing 6 year wait and a wealth of other content on my 3DS.

With the New 3DS making its debut today, I wonder how it'll register in the sales data next week.

Just to get a slight hint of how things might go down, I had a look at Amazon's website and the data I could scrounge from there. It's best to note that the Japanese aren't into online retail much.

The most popular of the two models, surprisingly (to me at least), is the New 3DS XL. I had a feeling that the smaller model would be more popular with the changeable faceplates. Both colours are sold out and are only available through merchants, which are all ready selling it at a marked up price (Around £20-30 more than the RRP)

The smaller model is still in stock with no hint of Amazon running out of stock soon, as there is no limited stock warning.

I expect a massive spike in 3DS sales next week, helped in no small part by MH4U. It'll make for some interesting reading.

Geez, the amount of FIFA in that UK chart makes me slightly embarrassed.

If I weren't on my phone, I'd find that clip of Mrs. Doyle saying "It's just a stupid game of football!"

It's a great game and has really brought together the community on here. We ( myself, lostmario, Dazzybee, Esquiel, Sexual Chocolate, Gmac and soon Fierce Link ) play Pro Clubs on the PS4 a few times a week and it's a right laugh. We all get in party chat and just enjoy the banter while taking on the world. Team N-E is on the rise!

Why? The only embarrassing thing about it is the fact that it's not coming to the WiiU.

The game itself is great. I'm really enjoying it.

Comments like that about Fifa will force me to remove you from my Wii U friend list! :heh:

You know what the repercussion of that would be.

OK, could have worded it better. Sorry about that.

I am not a football fan, never have been. So I'm never gonna understand why it's so loved.

But if you enjoy it. Great! More props to you.

I'm not much of a FIFA guy myself(and very sporadically football, usually national/passing games) but I can see why it's so big given that football's so big, and I know a lot of people who like/enjoy it. Can't say I get the same buzz, but I guess it's being a bit shy to the subject material. The thing I take from so much FIFA in the charts is, as I mentioned in the previous post, the sheer diversity it hints at. Both between hardware platforms and between people actually playing games(ie are there more people playing FIFA now than there were 10-20 years ago?)
