Retro_Link Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1218415p1.html "We can confirm that LittleBigPlanet Karting is in fact in development and we look forward to sharing details on this exciting new game in the near future," a statement from Sony said. "Stay tuned for more info." Not much to go on yet, but surely this is now replacing ModNation Racers, as the two can't really co-exist on the same platform.
Daft Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 If Diddy Kong and Mario can Kart on the same console then I don't see why this and Mod can't. Still, piss Mod. Bring on LBPK.

Well yeah of course a console can have more than one cartoon racer... but wasn't ModNation Racers, Sony's LittleBigPlanet of racers?... under the same 'play, create, share' [or whathaveyou] brand?
Cube Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) Well yeah of course a console can have more than one cartoon racer... but wasn't ModNation Racers, Sony's LittleBigPlanet of racers?... under the same 'play, create, share' [or whathaveyou] brand? Don't forget the same policy of "focus on the amazing creation mechanics - don't put any effort into the gameplay whatsoever". Seriously, if this could come anywhere near the likes of Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, Crash Team Racing, Konami Krazy Racing, Mickey's Speedway USA or Sega All-Stars Racing and still have the creation mechanics then it would be brilliant. Choze Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 (edited) Sounds really good. I approve. Wonder if its coming to vita? Don't forget the same policy of "focus on the amazing creation mechanics - don't put any effort into the gameplay whatsoever". Seriously, if this could come anywhere near the likes of Mario Kart, Diddy Kong Racing, Crash Team Racing, Konami Krazy Racing, Mickey's Speedway USA or Sega All-Stars Racing and still have the creation mechanics then it would be brilliant. Sega all star racing was shite. absolutely no depth whatsoever. Edited February 16, 2012 by Choze
Cube Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Developed by Media Molecule (LBP) & United Front Games (Modnation).
dwarf Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 It looks to have exactly the same drift mechanics as Modnation. They have to keep it that loose for the sake of user-generated tracks but it's a big sacrifice. Also, I can't be bothered to create more turd for six other players to endure once. (I'm talking LBP here, never had Modnation)
flameboy Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 So guessing Modnation is dead as a franchise for now? Exciting to see that core idea in the hands of the more creative folk at Media Molecule.
Retro_Link Posted March 22, 2012 Author Posted March 22, 2012 I dunno, at first I was interested in this, but now I'm thinking Sackboys world doesn't exist enough to create a racing game around it... I think it's all gonna feel quite empty and generic. You just know the first thing that gamers are gonna do is create the tracks from Mario Kart! :p
Emerald Emblem Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 My little bro pretty much only plays Modnation Racers and LittleBigPlanet 2, seems like the perfect game for him.
Daft Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I had my (major) doubts but after watching this I'm excited. The core mechanics look tight. Fingers crossed. There hasn't been a really good karting game since Mario Kart DS. Which was stunning. http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/littlebigplanet-karting-gameplay-trailer
Cube Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 - Diddy Kong Racing DS - Sega All-Stars Racing - Mario Kart 7
Daft Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Haven't played DKR DS but the other two I were pretty unimpressed with, especially Sega All-Star Racing.
dazzybee Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 You've played Mario Kart 7? And were unimpressed? Why? Think it nails the karting game. (has a few online and feature issues though). Not feeling this game, best bits were the additional modes which looked pretty great. But looks very floaty and ultimately I don't like the style of the characters and world. I wanted to love LBP so much but I just couldn't, I loved the creativity but I just didn't like 'playing' it. See how it ends up but think the Sega all stars one looks more interesting.
Daft Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Eh, dunno. Just did nothing for me. Probably didn't help I have no desire at all to invest in a 3DS. Especially when I can still have a shuffle on MK DS.
dazzybee Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I think you'd be surprised with the 3DS, getting some really good software for it now, especially on the download store and I know you like that on the PSN. But then, having time to play everything is always a big factor! You got Mortal Kombat?!
Daft Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 (edited) I just don't see a noticeable benefit to having a 3DS over my DS. Feels like an unnecessary upgrade since I'm still completely happy with my DS. I don't like the 3D and I'm not really noticing any games that warrant the extra power. If I did get one it would be when they redesign it, because of he potential second analogue and it looks like an ice-cream sandwich at the moment. It's an absolutely vile thing to look at. Not that that really matters since I mostly play my portables at home. Also, like you said, time. My PS3 is only used for Netflix nowadays (and here's a novelty, I watched a DVD on it the other day. First time I watched a DVD in literally years - looked like shit, I felt retro), I gave my 360 away and I think my Wii has fallen under the TV stand, I only have time for one thing and that's my Vita...and that's after I've finished reading all my comics and have nothing better to do. Probably would have felt the same about the Vita but I never wasted any money on a PSP. Because it was a piece of crap and was about as comfortable to hold as a bunch of razorblades. Not sure about MK. Soul Calibur (on the DC and GC) and ridiculous DoA to a lesser extent are the only fighting games the ever really clicked for me. I'm kind of tempted because I've heard a lot of good things but...dunno. If there were a demo, maybe, but there isn't, so their loss. Edited May 4, 2012 by Daft
The Bard Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I've got a 3DS and I can't confirm the availability of any quality software. But then I'm totally jaded towards Mario and Zelda products to the point where I genuinely wouldn't care if I never played another one again. Which sort of begs the question: why in the name of sweet dancing goombas did I buy one in the first place? Well, because I like shiny new things.
nekunando Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I watched the video there out of curiosity and it immediately struck me how dull and joyless the environments look to me. As with Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, it just looks so visually unappealing, a criticism I could never level at Mario Kart or Diddy Kong Racing (which I played last night and it's still awesome ) I'm sure we all see things differently but this doesn't strike any chords with me at all..
nekunando Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 LBP joyless? Can't say I've heard that before. If you read more closely, you'll see I was referring to how dull and joyless the environments look to me.. I don't think that's an unfair criticism
Cube Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 I do have to say, the gameplay looks nowhere near as bland as LBP's platforming gameplay. Although a lot depends on controls, which isn't too promising after trying ModNation Racers on Vita.
Daft Posted May 4, 2012 Posted May 4, 2012 Yeah, they need to be tighter than ModNations was on the PS3 and the loading times need to not be crap.
