drahkon Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 (edited) I refuse to play this during the day since I want it to be dark in the room and I can't do that until it gets dark outside Edit: Well, that didn't last long. What she said I caved, I need to play this. Edited June 15, 2013 by drahkon
Cookyman Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 So still loving the game - taking my time with it unlike some people Lol moment in single player was The porn mag Really enjoying the multiplayer - has anybody else tried it yet? what do you think of it?
dwarf Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 It's going to take a while before I fully understand the ins and outs of multiplayer, I'm finding it frustrating at the moment. Once you take someone out, you're usually next in line. Need a good squad...
Emerald Emblem Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Getting it Monday, I cannot wait, should provide me great enjoyment while I wait for Time and Eternity to come out.
drahkon Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 (edited) So still loving the game - taking my time with it unlike some people Doing the same. Am now past the point where I stopped playing the Demo. Took me 10 minutes to take out two enemies. I love how, when you turn off every help, you really don't get any help (except for the occasional tutorial). More games should do that. Edit: Fuck me. I observerd a clicker walking around to see if I can take him down. What I didn't know: They are apparently immune to my fists and stealth takedowns (didn't try to use a Shiv, 'cause I wanted to keep them for lock-picking). So I fucked up, raising attention to the remaining two infected who were now coming to the place where I was fighting the clicker. I panicked, shot a bullet at it, then beat it down with the wooden thingy I had, which then was destroyed. The other guys were screaming and running towards me, I panicked again, shot another bullet. This time hitting one. I landed the occasional hit with melee attacks, ran away and had to decide whether I should shoot them down, or sacrifice a bit of health to continue melee combat. I had about 1 second and I chose the latter option. I survived. Almost dead. Lost two bullets, my melee weapon and my sanity. Fucking amazing game. Need a good squad... Just played my first multiplayer match. We won, I was the best :p It's definitely a team game, which is awesome. And it is very slow paced. I love it. We need to get some action going! dwarf Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 OK the multiplayer is sick. Just rinsed 7-0 with sniper/bombs, it was glorious. No cinema though!

Cookyman Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Up for some action later? Can't tonight but up for it tomorrow night!
dwarf Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 He asked me. Oh shit edit, not tonight. Soon though! I keep forgetting to fucking mark despite it being the key to multiplayer mastery.
bryanee Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Holy shit what an opening, got something in me fucking eye.
Tales Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 (edited) It's an awesome game, but I'm disappointed it turned out to be another zombie game. I was hoping for more like On the Road, super volcano or nuclear war or something like that. Shooting down brainless zombies isn't the same as humans fighting for survival. Good there's some of that too though. Edited June 15, 2013 by Tales
dwarf Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 12 downs, 11 executions, 1 death. I haven't been able to stop. The single player will have to wait.

Tales Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Indeed I did. Had a feeling there was something wrong :p
Cube Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 If I had to use one word to describe this game, it would be "intense". I managed to catch up (oddly, one section I did first time in my original playthrough took me ages) and do a decent amount more. The sound effects in this game are amazing. The guns sound incredibly realistic and there's a lot going on in the background. The sound of the clickers is incredibly scary, as well as conveying information on what "state" they are in and their location The combat is very tough, yet there are a good variety of ways to fight in each battle. As said above, each battle is incredibly intense. I'm not afraid to admit that this game literally makes me sweat. I'm loving it and I generally don't like horror games.
bryanee Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 (edited) I've never played a game like this that's had me on the edge of my fucking seat the entire time, even during the slower moments when nothing is happening. And damn those fucking clickers. One encounter man I felt so helpless, a load of runners out of nowhere, if it wasn't for the AI partner I would of been fucked. Managed to fight em off on the first try. This game oozes class. And thank god for these analogue nub grip things I bought. Make the dual shock sticks a little easier to handle. Oxigen_Waste Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Oh boy... the game has taken a dive off a cliff. After arriving in Lincoln it has been a consecutive string of disappointments... It started out unique but it's getting more and more predictable and dumb. Citizen Kane moment of gaming my fucking ass. It's more like the King's Speech, a dumb blockbuster masquerading as something culturally relevant. It's just an endless parade of Naughty Dog pandering to modern audience tastes and trends, this is my disappointment of the gen, unless it changes drastically towards the end (I'm at the elevator part). I expected something beautiful and haunting, like the Village scene from Uncharted 2, instead it's just the usual fucking bullshit. Why did I let myself believe this would be any different... Not that the game's bad. Not at all. It's just nothing even remotely out of the beaten path... Ellie and her endearing remarks, epiphanies, doubts and realizations is the only element that elevates the game above the rest in any way. Apart from her, this is just another Zombie game with some very shallow and basic (not to mention borderline bad) stealth and survival elements thrown in. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That said, the jury's still out, my save says I'm about 50% done (~8 hours in), so I guess we'll see. If it doesn't do a 180º, that's it for Naughty Dog, as far as I'm concerned... Ridley Scott of the gaming industry.
Daft Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Stop the presses, O_W is being a drama queen. So, really enjoying this, I hate stealth but that kind of adds to the tension. HOWEVER, how exactly are you meant to deal with the game when it just chucks a horde of infected at you? Like when you get to the first town, meet the dude and then step outside on your way to get car parts/going to the armoury? I can deal with most the infected but then a clicker just insta-kills me.

Like when you get to the first town, meet the dude and then step outside on your way to get car parts/going to the armoury? I can deal with most the infected but then a clicker just insta-kills me. I think it's fair. Not that the game is bad, it's at least a very solid 8/10 (in a realistic scale, not "anything below 9 is crap"... Anything above a 7 is a good game you should play, for me), but it's being hailed as a new dawn for gaming when deep down it's just the same old tune. It bothers me that people not only accept but actually support this kind of attitude from the media which are supposed to be "on our side". It's deceitful and sad. I may have been unclear though, the game is great... It's just not the masterpiece the media are making it out to be. I actually believed it could be that good for a second, the whole Boston intro stage seemed like it could be the slightly flawed but incredible opening for a game changing experience... Turns out that was the best part of the game (at least so far, I'm still "only" 10 hours in). But hell, maybe I'm too much of a snob, as apparently most people thought the beginning was boring and didn't really get into it until the point at which I started to get disappointed with it... Seriously, I started getting very very worried right before that horde you mentioned when the character I won't name gives you the shottie and grenades (that was the turning point for me)... But when the horde happened it just completely lost me... And it hasn't won me back yet, everything since has been a (very competent and well made) disappointment. Just escaped Pittsburgh and got rescued from drowning by the young black guy... Hopefully it'll get better again from here on out, but that whole High School horde part and then the Pittsburgh hunter gang segments have just felt tacky and formulaic, even though very well executed. Well, here I go again!
Happenstance Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I think this might be another Uncharted 3 situation where I just drop the difficulty down to easy so I can get through the game. The only real difference being that I thought Uncharted 3 had stupid difficulty spikes while its just TLOU gameplay style that I simply dont get along with. This was exactly the reason I didnt bother preordering until a week before but I was swayed by all the glowing reviews, guess I should have stuck with my initial feelings on it.
Oxigen_Waste Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Huh, it's getting good again. Like, really good. Hooray! =) (as for the difficulty, as someone who's playing on hard and finding it easy, you should remember that conflict is optional sometimes).
drahkon Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Can't play until Friday. How 'bout some multiplayer action on Friday?
Oxigen_Waste Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Ok, so "acts" 2 & 3 were bullshit, but 4 & 5 are THE SHIT. Just got to UEC (which I'm calling Act 6), really wanted to keep playing unfortunately the local festivities prohibit me from doing so. There's a huge party going on right by my house, so now this is blasting at a very, very loud volume... and it obviously completely ruins the mood. =D Although it would be quite hilarious to keep playing with such a disparity in tone. =D
dwarf Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 OK this game just turned fucking immense. When you're holding out in the house with the mounted sniper and the way the following scene between the kids plays out. Hell, the downtime preceding that part just exploring the houses... so good. Oxigen needs to hush a little. Sure it isn't a masterpiece but the clickers do make the game seriously more intense. And you can stop parping on about The Road. The chapter I described above seemed to draw a great deal of inspiration from the novel and yes it was probably the best segment of the game so far, but when it comes down to it the zombie nature of this apocalypse doesn't detract from the story because it's purely character driven, and all you need to know is that they're going through emotional turmoil. Maybe the gaming press have gone overboard on the praise for the game but by fuck does it have its moments. And I've still got more to play. Easily in my top 10 games of all time the way events are unfolding.
