Rez: 4KOMA or something.

Everyone else: As bad as CAD is, I think we can all agree it is a shining star compared to the sewer troll that is Megatokyo. I'm sorry if you're down with Megatokyo, so sorry. For you.

Also, Shortpacked! is pretty great if you're into popular culture and toys. Rez in particular would probably appreciate it, and if not at least it has pretty colours.

I read too many to write about but would like to highlight a couple that need to be mentioned:

http://www.xkcd.com

Needs no introduction.

http://www.smbc-comics.com/

Very much like xkcd, except with a lot more colour and more randomness.

http://www.picturesforsadchildren.com/

Funny comics with focus on a more depressing angle.

http://www.robandelliot.cycomics.com/

Because it's funny

http://www.castle-vidcons.com/

THE BEST when it comes to videogame comics (when it updates)

I would also like to echo a disdain for CAD comics, used to read it for years and post on their forums.

Got perma-banned and my account deleted for saying: "It was an alright comic, but the joke reminds me too much of (some other comic)"

Stopped reading shortly after that, me being bitter and not finding it funny anymore.

I agree that CAD is rubbish, but am too brain-dead right now from essay writing to critique it, so I'll do that later. And I have complex views on xkcd.

What I do want to do is plug Gunnerkrigg Court, which is pretty amazing. It's a long form dramatic webcomic with twinges of Harry Potter that's basically about the clash of science and magic. And did I mention it's awesome? It's better than lots of published graphic novels (well, it itself is published now), and apparently Neil Gaiman is a fan. The art starts out good but not outstanding, but gradually gets brilliant:

I personally think XKCD is shit, but I'm aware I'm in the minority. I've glimpsed hundreds of strips because, like toy adverts at Christmas, it has become impossible to evade.

I see the appeal, I've just never felt compelled to keep reading. I think it's because I know XKCD is covertly trying to fill my brain with knowledge, and I can't have that.

I second Scoop's recommendation of Shortpacked! for anyone who's into toy collecting. Or even if you're not, because David Willis is just that good a writer.

I really need to read Gunnerkrigg Court. I remember checking it out when it was new, and now I keep hearing great things about it, so I kind of regret not bookmarking it back then. No one likes archive trawling.

Ah, yes, one I have forgotten to mention: Something*Positive

It's a webcomic about some pretty regular people and their pretty regular lives ... for the most part. Contrary to the title, the main character, Davan, has the most pessimistic and cynical outlook on life, yet somehow he's very likable for this exact reason. He has a pink, gelatinous cat which has fathered a bunch of kittens that have ended up in other webcomics like Girls With Slingshots and Shortpacked, but this is more of a little side story. It's been going for nearly a decade, and I spent about a week reading through the entire archive. Very addictive, I found.

Seriously guys, get some Boxer Hockey in your lives. It's magical.

I don't like this thread, only because it has given me too many things to read that are awesome :)

I hear ya. Every time a webcomic thread appears, one or more webcomics are added to my already enormous list. :p

I don't mind CAD, what pisses me off is MegaTokyo, which I'm surprised noones mentioned yet (If you have and I've missed it, I'm sorry) it went from something vaguely entertaining into a never-updated* romantic comic. Damn you Piro for letting Largo go.

*With no reason/piss-poor exuses.

But it's all about Cyanide and Happiness for me now.

Scoop posted about how much he hates MegaTokyo (apparently more than Ctrl+Alt+Del, but that's surely just an exaggeration!) at the beginning of this page. It's seems pretty terrible, but luckily I've always had the good sense to stay away from it.

Enjoy reading Ctrl+Alt+Del!

Other awesome webcomics: Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal and The Non-Adventures of Wonderella.

A hand written apology and a Curly Wurly are winging its way to him right now.

*sigh* I remember when I read MegaTokyo, back when it was a great storyline and quite funny. Quite what happened to it I don't know, but it's disappointing. The original storyline of two guys visiting Tokyo, not having money to afford the flight home because they bought something shiny and trying to raise the cash was great. But now, it's just...what? What is it?

I am annoyed. It might be because I have 5 of the books and I don't care about them in any way, too.

I didn't realise that about his wife. That's truly something I'd never wish on anyone and wish her all the best in recovering. But in my defence my hate was never about the missed updates with MegaTokyo, I was more about the general decline of a cool idea.

Even I liked it, once. I even recall staying up all night once until I saw the latest comic.

It was shortly after that I began to seriously reassessesesess my life.

Ah I'm not saying it's an excuse for the story (which I agree is just "..." ), but it does explain the lack in updates, and it probably did hurt the scenario writing too.

As for me, I only really check Penny Arcade these days, though half of the time I have no clue what is going on (and the news posts to go with them are too wordy so I rarely read those). =P
