I thought that was the best episode so far. Great start to the series.

Yeah though pretty much sums up how I felt about it. Supreb episode that represented everything I love about the show, the emotion and the sheer desperation and fuck me the ending although not sure if the end of show reel somewhat wrecked things regarding errr...survival. What it did right though, shows new conflict which is needed. If the show ends up staying in this one fixed location for large parts of the show think that could be to the advantage of the character based drama.

Its one of the best TV shows on TV at the moment and one of the best for a long while

Its certainly not predictable or pandering to any demographics/viewpoints

 

Its a fairly realistic take on what would happen should a zombie apocalypse take place, no giant monsters, no trapped in malls with hordes of zombies as far as the eye can see, and so far no cleché'd people wandering into rooms saying things like "i think we've seen the last of them" only to be eaten alive

 

The baby seat scene left little to the imagination, pushed a boundary there most shows shy away from that level of realism

Half this shit didn't even happen in the comics, its amazing.

 

The bit in season 1 where Shane has Rick in the crosshairs of his gun, in the comics he is about to shoot him but Carl shoots Shane. So in the comics when they get to Hershel's farm Shane is already dead.

 

 

That episode was awesome and this season is definitely better than season 1. Absolute win.

My only gripe with them is the lack of swearing and nudity. I think, in Mad Men especially (which I've just started watching) swearing would naturally come into their speech and would really add to the realism. As would nudity in the many sex scenes which there are.

 

And I would personally say HBO is the best producer of TV.

Also, I really need to stop reading interviews about The Walking Dead, because they can't seem to stop spoiling the comic book. Here's how they typically go:

I don't really see how more nudity in TWD would actually add to the show at all, or make it in anyway more 'realistic'... They've not had a chance to stop for 5 minutes yet!

 

I can't remember the majority of the minor plot points, which actually makes it all rather a better experience. However, having read part of the comic series actually does make watching it boring sometimes. It makes a lot of stuff seem filler/time-wastery to a degree. I have to admit I've been watching TWD with maybe 75% attention this season...

broadwalk i found it a bit slow at the start, but it came along leaps and bounds.

I'd add Dexter and Breaking bad in that list too and i honestly couldn't really order them

I hate to admit this though but I've never seen Mad Men, i always kept missing it and past a certain point i avoid a show until its repeated, that or buy the DVD's

I've actually heard rather mixed things about BE - it has the style and the cast but generally the first season doesn't go anywhere. A bit of a deadwood (not necessarily a bad thing folks! I loved that show [never finished it] but it lost me when it didn't change quick enough).

 

I'm not really up-to-date with TV this year so I couldn't say how good/bad WD is in comparison, but it definitely deserves credit for being medium-good at tension and plus-good at surprising you. I do think it is a little slow, and not been great so far at setting up med-to-long term climaxes to look forward to - something that, after having read the comics to a point, frustrates me as essentially I'm desperate for them to get to a certain point...

You mean all those raised eyebrows he did? I don't think he did any better than ususal, just that for once the script for his character was better - waaaay darker than he's been so far.

Sherlock was refreshing, but typlically bbc in having a far-too-short first season, but aside from that I just haven't seen any thing of worth (except, of course, we ought to share Band of Brothers with BBC :P and maybe rome too but I can't remember)

I wasn't really referring to TWD for nudity, more Mad Men, but I do think swearing would add to the realism. If you've got a horde of zombies chasing after you I would probably let out a few 'f-bombs'.

Glad to see that everyone's loving this series more than the first. Pretty underwhelmed with s1 so I'm looking forward to playing catchup with this one.

 

The networks debate is pretty interested. I'd say right now that AMC is on top (though probably for about the first time) - any network that's putting out Mad Men and Breaking Bad are doing something beautifully right. And apparently love alliteration.

Carnivalè... such a missed opportunity. The existing 2 seasons are so good within their genre... Clancy Brown delivers such a great role... it's a shame about that "meh" ending, really... I guess it's all they could do, considering the time constraints they were under... Oh well.

I gotta be honest, I have watched very little British drama, and the little I have seen is mostly quite older than the other shows debated here (except for The Take...) I have no idea what is or isn't BBC, but under the drama umbrella, out of the UK I've only seen Brideshead, Our Friends In The North, Pride & Prejudice and The Take. Mostly because I'm unfamiliar with dramas from over there... I devour your comedies and documentaries, but really have little knowledge when it comes to drama... care to recommend anything?

Anyone read Rise of the Governor yet? Read the first few chapters, seems ok so far, though not keen on how the author has to describe the human brain being violated in nasty ways with every other zombie death. Gets a bit repetitive.
