Pets are funnies

Yeah I wasn't happy. :(

Apparently one of them keeps trying to open her stitch wound so she's not ready to go home. They'll be taking her to the vet on Tuesday for a checkup and then we'll see how it goes.

The only problem now is I don't really have a way of getting to the Cats Protection place as Jim is working (and they close at something silly like 3:30). So I need to figure out how I can pick them up. >.<;

I'm sure @Raining_again would fly over just to help pick up kittens.

Have you got a carry bag (or whatever you call it)?  If so you can probably get a taxi to pick you up providing you book and explain in advance.

I'll be buying a carrier at the adoption place yeah, can't really transport kittens without one. :p
I am not sure if the normal taxi company here takes cats on their taxis... I've sent them a message but not had a reply yet.

However I also found a pet taxi service that can drive you and your pet around (for example to get to the vet) and I'm asking them for a quote. Hopefully it won't be too extortionate heh.

cant see why a taxi wouldn't transport you and a cat secured in a carrier......

I had fun with all 3 of mine in my car this week.  Clementine managed to get out and decided it would be a good idea to sit on my dashboard in front of my view of the road... lol

Taxis can be funny with pets, some of them here don't take dogs so I'm not sure how they feel about cats. Plus the local taxi service charges a small fortune!

But I managed to book a spot with a local pet taxi service, who will drive me there, wait for me to pick up the cats and then drive me back, all for a very low fee. :D
So hopefully on Friday I will finally pick up the kitties!

They told me that the kitten is currently driving the mum crazy, so I will have to provide lots of toys to keep him entertained. I spent a small fortune on cat stuff this month, so hopefully that should all be fine. :3

By the way, Clementine looks lovely! And I love that name (thanks to the Telltale Walking Dead games haha). :)

They are finally here! :D

Too bad Jim isn't, he's off on a school trip. But it means I can help the cats settle in all weekend. :)

Meet the new members of our family, mum Aya and son Ico!

Aya is very timid at the moment and keeps hiding in the cupboard behind her (where we keep Jim's guitar stuff and our old consoles). Ico is a playful kitten and just can't sit still! So they are very much opposites at the moment, but I think that is normal. Also, it is bloody difficult taking pictures of a kitten, they can't sit still!

  • 2 weeks later...

My dear, dear friend runs a sanctuary for old, sick, & stray cats.  She has had 5 die in the past month.

One was 20 and in severe renal failure.  Two white cats with no ears (both cancer) one was 8 and one was ~18.  One was a trauma case, was stuck in between rafters in a house fire, at the age of 16, she survived for a few weeks but between her age, the injuries and the emotional trauma she just didn't get through it. One was a lovely little 16 year old who had a massive tumour on his liver.

They're all like my second family - to say i'm heartbroken doesn't even attempt to cover it.   The last one that died, passed away on my freddy's 6 month anniversary.  We just cried in each others arms on Saturday.

Rescuers fatigue is such a real thing :'(

So we kind of have a tortoise now...

31947148_10160439698320341_6919111353722

My parents found him out the back of their house. We assume he must be an escaped/released pet, as we checked if there are any native tortoises in the UK and there doesn't appear to be. We took him to the vets to get checked out and see if he has a microchip (apparently tortoises can be chipped, who knew?). We've left our details with a few places, including the local reptile specialist, in case an owner does show up, but the most places said the chances were slim.

We're at an awkward place now, as we're hesitant to spend money on a proper setup, in case his owner does come forward, but he will need a proper basking lamp once the hot weather goes. Fortunately, our living room gets plenty of sun, so short term he's just been allowed to wander around and dip in and out of the sun as needed. He seems healthy enough for the time being.

We've named him Panzer after Panzer Dragoon and the fact that it's German for armour. Probably shouldn't have named him, just in case we do have to hand him back.

I approve wholeheartedly of this name for a Tortoise. :D

Hopefully you'll get to keep him and all goes well. :peace:

I looked at his face today and regretted not calling him Garrus. From the front, the resemblance is pretty close.
