Retro_Link Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Yay Tesco have shipped by copy!! Could be the next game I go for when I finish with Heavy Rain [such a great game].
drahkon Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Had a massive Ni No Kuni marathon last night, and soon after getting the ship in Castaway Cove... Bloody Shadar shows up out of nowhere! I'd been battling beasties in the ocean, and could see dry land right in front of me so I didn't bother topping up HP & MP, then *bam* out of nowhere there's a boss battle. I only had half health at best, and used up a ton of items and a few phoenix feathers surviving. Now I've spent all my money replacing said items for next time, someone call me a waahmbulance. Happened to me as well. And I don't think I can defeat him. Level 20-27 with all my team members. Thought that would be enough for some time.
Daft Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Started this. Got 45 minutes in. I'm definitely feeling this. Can't wait to get into it some more.
Agent Gibbs Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Hopefully you will love it as much as the rest of us @Daft, it constantly gets better
Arnieboy Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Finished this last night after completing all the sidequest/bounties available and levelling up to around lv78. Final boss was hard but I lucked out and didn't die. So 3 deaths in total for the game so far, (normal mode). Loved this game and glad there's some post game stuff to finish off but: The ending was a pretty big letdown, the final cutscene was way too short and no big send-off? Eh. Also, the 2 useless spells you get after you finish the game could've been used to get a better ending I feel. All in all though, best rpg to come out in ages. And a tip for anyone wanting a strong familiar, Dinoceros. He is amazing.
Daft Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) I am not a fan of that monkey familiar you get when helping out the Cat King dude near the start. Loving this game. Wasn't a massive fan of the demo but am glad I picked it up. 666 Edited February 12, 2013 by Daft
Ike Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Seriously. The game makes out it's super strong or something. I use it in the first battle. I died... OK, I didn't notice it was level 1 but still. At least it can Psyche Up.
martinist Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 So i'm pretty much on the final streach i think. About to face Shadar for the second time but there's probably more to do after that since i havn't got all the errand rewards yet. The treck through Nevermore was pretty hard for me, was wondering around looking for a save point but there wasn't one. The only one I could find was at the main door. Havn't really died that much on normal, party is around level 68 or so since i was grinding on tokotokos for a while near Perdida, even managed to catch one. Should finish this game tomorrow and get down to trying to platinum it. Though thats probably going to take a while.
Daft Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Did anyone else switch of the destination star thing on the mini-map? I did it right at the beginning...seemed a bit lame and easy just knowing exactly where to run.
drahkon Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Did anyone else switch of the destination star thing on the mini-map? Thought about it, but I like to do sidequests before continuing the story. And with the star I can avoid stumbling into cutscenes.
Daft Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I haven't had that problem yet but I'll keep that in mind.
drahkon Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Haven't had that problem with this game, as well, but with a lot of other RPGs.
Rummy Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Sank a fair bit more into this today, think I'm stuck on...something. The robot one that sounds like another ghibli film! The battle system is keeping me engaged, there's still some definite flaws/criticisms to be made, but less prevelant/noitceable now the battle system's moving up. Feel like I'm not making the most of things, and never sure what familiars to use, but enjoying things nonetheless. Quite enjoyed the town with mom, and the comedy routine was better than I was expecting; I do wonder if some aspects have been lost in translation from the DS version though - some stuff feels strangely arbitrary. Nonetheless, still enjoying it/it's keeping me hooked!
drahkon Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Ok, I got some errands that require a huge amount of backtracking. I know there will be fast travel available sometime in the game. Autumnia. Don't want to spent hours with backtracking if fast travel will be an option soon in the story. So, without spoiling, can you tell me if it's not worth it to go back to all the starting areas?
Grazza Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Seriously. The game makes out it's super strong or something. I use it in the first battle. I died... OK, I didn't notice it was level 1 but still. At least it can Psyche Up. This game has Psyche Up? (Rushes to finish Etrian Odyssey II and buy that PS3...!)
Sheikah Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I can't resist using Mitey. He's awesome. Yeah I kept him too, but if you come across a purrloiner (cat with a sword) try charm it since it basically becomes Mitey's direct replacement.
Daft Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 I've only just got to the forest of plenty place (I know, I'm super slow but I can't play games for longer then about an hour before getting fidgety), don't really know how catching stuff works. Also, how do you evolve them? Any other helpful pointers?

Hero-of-Time Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) Finished this last night after completing all the sidequest/bounties available and levelling up to around lv78. Yeah, I picked up a couple of Dinos during the post game stuff. I have both of them on level 20, each being a different version of the final evolution. Using Psych Up and then letting him go wild results in many dead enemies. Should finish this game tomorrow and get down to trying to platinum it. Though thats probably going to take a while. Yeah, I'm on trying to get the platinum now and it's a massive time sink. Yesterday it took me 6 hours to do just one of the post game sidequests. You have to get 10 items to create an axe. Each of the items is a rare steal from a rare golden enemy. So, basically you have to hope to find the enemy and then you have to hope that you steal what you are after. It was a real drain but I finally nabbed it. I was also surprised just how long it took for the 1000 battles trophy to unlock. I'm level 95 with 55 hours played and it just unlocked last night. No idea if it's glitchy or what, just figured it would have unlocked a lot sooner than what it did. I still have yet to unlock the trophy for nabbing 2000 glims::shrug: For those interested in the trophies, I suggest you start feeding you familiars as early as possible as it takes ages to max out their hearts. Each of them has a favourite food which increase their hearts. For example, Mitey loves chocolate and when feeding him it little hearts appear above his head. Did anyone else switch of the destination star thing on the mini-map? I did it right at the beginning...seemed a bit lame and easy just knowing exactly where to run. I liked to keep it on as I tend to do sidequests and like to know where my next destination when I choose to carry the story on. Ok, I got some errands that require a huge amount of backtracking.I know there will be fast travel available sometime in the game. Autumnia. Somewhere like Castaway Cove is fine but going back anywhere else is a bit pointless. Once you get fast travel you can zip around like a maniac. Of course it depends if you want to get all the sidequests done ASAP. I've only just got to the forest of plenty place (I know, I'm super slow but I can't play games for longer then about an hour before getting fidgety), don't really know how catching stuff works. Also, how do you evolve them? Any other helpful pointers? It all comes down to luck. Once you drain an enemies health little hearts will appear above it's head, which means you can catch it. Quickly switch the Esther and she use the Serenade move. This should catch the beastie unless the AI uses some magic spell that hits all enemies. This has happened to me a couple of times. Each familiar evolves 2 times. Once you have got enough exp you get a message said it's ready to evolve. Once this message appears you need to use a special stone to evolve it. The stone used depends on the type of familiar it is. These seem short in supply at first but you will be swimming in them by the end of the game. When it evolves the 2nd time you have the choice of evolving it in to 1 of 2 forms. Usually one is more defensive, while the other more offensive. Other times it's the spells they learn that makes them different. Personally I just went with the ones that looked better or had a stronger attack stat. Basically just catch everything you see when given the opportunity. Oh, if you want a good familiar then head into Ding Dong Well and catch the snake there. I think he is called Naja and although starts off weak, he turns into quite the stats beast by the end. I put a fair few hours in to this yesterday and finished all sidequests and all errands off. I also dispatched the secret boss quite easily as well, although I did have to use a few healing items. So most of the main battling is now done, with the exception of the S Rank Colosseum. Despite being level 95 the 3rd battle still hands me my butt. Stuff left to do: Evolve 100 more familiars Pick up 2000 glims in battle Do 130 alchemy recipes Find all the hidden chests S Rank Colosseum Feed Mitey some more The Alchemy one is going to be a nightmare to do as you need a stupid amount of mats to do it. Bring it on. Don't want to spent hours with backtracking if fast travel will be an option soon in the story. So, without spoiling, can you tell me if it's not worth it to go back to all the starting areas? Edited February 10, 2013 by Hero-of-Time
Agent Gibbs Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 one of the Lemur's final evolutions knows a revive move, so it has benefits as a third slot familiar I got hold of Purloiner and gave mitey to Swaine so he'd have a strong familiar once i got him. Evolutions are great and the amazon Griffin has proved useful in the early levels, but his level is capping very low in his first and second evolutions,so i can see him becoming poor eventually. I'm probably miles behind people now as i've only just got the ship back
Arnieboy Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 This game just keeps surprising me. So I just beat The optional boss at the end of The Conductor's string of quests And the reward is, in a word fantastic! You get to take Phil's car for a spin anytime you want on the world map by pressing down on the d-pad! Keep away from those spoiler tags if you haven't finished all the quests post-game and happy playing, this game is bloody fantastic.

I have used it too much to be honest. I have to much fun flying around with on the dragon to be stuck in a car. You done the colosseum yet?
drahkon Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Just tamed a Toko. Found him on an island, battled him a couple of tames as he gives about 2000 xp and then I could tame him. Level 1, needs 14.000 xp to level up. Wtf?
martinist Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 So i finally finished the game a few hours ago after getting my ass kicked by the final stage of the last boss because I ran out of MP. Seems theres a load of post-game stuff to do, been spending most of my time thus far with the errands the unlocked after clearing the game to try and get the rest of the merret awards that i'm missing. After that i'm probably gonna be in the casino playing platoon untill i can get enough chips to unlock the rest of the stuff in there. Also does anyone know if theres a place where i can check how many battles i've been in?
