ReZourceman's 2009 Cinema Movie Review Event

(Yes event, for this transcends a simple "thread")

I welcome you to this thread first of all. Its gonna take me a short while to type up, so I hope you enjoy it. :)

The Overview

2009 was a promising year for movies, and I certainly think it delivered. Compared to 2007 I watched about 15 more films at the cinema, a fairly considerable amount. This at least means there were more films that I was hopeful of and that piqued my interest.

Rating wise I'd like to think after constant mockery from Paj/OW that I have become a little more grounded, and not so eager to dish out the 8's and 9's. Even 7's.

Final point, I'll be re-rating these films based on my current stance and opinion of them, some having watched twice, with the last viewing within 24 hours and some just mulling in my mind after twelve months. So they may differ from my Rate The Last Film thread scores.

The stats

Having just counted my tickets I've got 42 this year, so I think I went to see different films about 40 times. :o

Number of films I rated between 9.2 and 10 = Seven

Number of films I rated between 8.5 and 9.2 = Six

Number of films I rated between 7.0 and 8.4 = Seventeen (I think. Tricky to count tbh)

Number of films I rated between 6.0 and 6.9 = Seven

Number of films I rated between 4.0 and 5.9 = Five

Number of films I rated less than 3.9 = Four

The Movies

In chronological order

I will be showing the Metacritic score, and Metacritic user score for all films also, for a comprehensive winblog.

The Wrestler - (I can't find my ticket but I'm quite sure it was January) - Metacritic 8.1 ~ User score 8.1

Amaaaazzzziiinnngggg. Loved it loved it loved it. Some of the best (if not the best...actually yeah, the best) acting of the year for me. Mickey Rourke was brilliant, and I liked the reasonably ambiguous ending.

9.4/10

Role Models - 7th January - Metacritic 6.0 ~ User score 7.0.

Paul Rudd can do no wrong whatsoever as far as I'm concerned, and Sean William Scott can be very entertaining in moderation. This almost heart touching crudish comedy was funny and had nice characters. McLovin and the angry black kid were good too. A story of bonds.

8.0/10

Sex Drive - 14th January - Metacritic 4.9 ~ User score 7.6.

I know this received a lot of "meh/shit" reviews, certainly on this site, but I really couldn't understand the hate. I found the movie a bit of a call back to the last generations classic teen movies, Road Trip and American Pie notably, and a departure from the more recent "gross-out" teen comedies like Superbad. A fine story, and great characters with outragous scenes! And...jesus...I am in love with Amanda Crew. Just completely love her.

9.0/10

Slumdog Millionaire - 16th January - Metacritic 8.6 ~ User score 7.9

Hugely overrated IMO, but nevertheless a good film. I couldn't understand all the praise Dev was receiving. He was probably the worst thing about the film. But I enjoyed the reasonably interesting story told and the structure.

7.4/10

Yes Man - 21st January - Metacritic 4.6 ~ User score 6.5

Reasonably forgettable, but I seem to remember enjoying it a fair bit. (Lol forgettable....I remember) blah. Based on the thing Danny Wallace (legend) did. Yeah it was good.

6.8/10

Revolutionary Road - 4th February - Metacritic 6.9 ~ User score 6.6

By Sam Mendes, director of one of my favourite movies of all time. Even he couldn't save this though. I just...I really don't get it. I can't get my head around why people thought this is well acted. They say "Thats how it was at that time" or whatever, but I don't buy it. Terrible acting is terrible acting IMO, and this film just didn't do it for me. It really didn't. I found the acting un-watchable, and did something (which I do regret) and walked out of the movie. Also the characters were utterly unlikeable. Both of them. There was no one to cling onto and whilst I don't even look for this in a film, in this I found myself crying out for something I didn't detest. From what I saw (about half-three quarters) I rate it

2.5/10 (the costume design and a few of the camera choices were good, and its not really fair for me to rate it at all tbh)

He's Just Not That Into You - 7th February - Metacritic 4.7 ~ User score 6.1

This is a pretty great example of a chick flick that is wholly enjoyable and interesting for a male, because it has fully relatable and more grounded male characters. I thought it was actually really awesome. Bradley Cooper starts to make a name for himself.

8.1/10

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - 10th February - Metacritic 7.0 ~ User score 6.5

I'm really not a big fan of Brad Pitt, but thought this was his best role to date and he absolutely nailed it. The film is bursting with character and great design. You spend a lot of time in the world, and the different times, and the concept of time itself in the film and the time. I really enjoyed it.

8.5/10

Valkyrie - 12th February (my birthday?!) - Metacritic 5.6 ~ User score 5.8

I am quite partial to Tom Cruise when he acts well, and I quite like the whole Nazi thing (I find the design and costumes of the time, logo and colours of the Hitler logo/Shotsticker visually pleasing on media) (obviously I'm not condoning Naziism) anyway and I found the plot quite exciting, and a pretty good cast.

6.9/10

Confessions of a Shopaholic - 21st February - Metacritic 3.8 ~ User score 3.8

Isla Fisher is rather attractive eh. Massively chick flickish, and not a lot I could take away from it, but it was enjoyable.

6.4/10

Watchmen - 10th March - Metacritic 5.6 ~ User score 7.5

Adaption-wise I think it was absolutely incredible, and simply couldn't have done better at re-creating the world and adapting an "unadaptable" story. I really thought it was excellent, and so visually stimulating, it was incredibly exciting and epic!

9.0/10

Paul Blart Mall Cop - 21st March - Metacritic 3.9 ~ User score 5.0

Fun/fine.

5.5/10

Knowing - 28th March - Metacritic 4.1 ~ User score 6.4

I'm one of the people who still likes Nicolas Cage. But yeah he's kinda done a lot of bad stuff recently. Anyway I liked him in this, a fair amount actually. And I would have....I would have just absolutely adored this film if it was for the ending and like the explanation/resolution to it all. And because of that resolution it drags the film down so much, but ultimately I still enjoyed it.

6.8/10

Monsters VS Aliens - 4th April - Metacritic 5.6 ~ User score 6.8

The thing I like almost more than Pixar movies in these Dreamworks ones (apart from Shrek) is that they are actually genuinely funny. Pixar films aren't really funny at all, they're more smirk inducing, or sweet (not a bad thing) but yeah this was pretty hilarious and a good movie to boot. I saw it in 2D btw.

8.2/10

17 Again - 10th April - Metacritic 4.8 ~ User score 5.6

Holy shit, Zac Effron is amazing. Who knew? He is very very funny and has good comedic timing. Couple him with a good cast, and it was just thoroughly enjoyable.

8.4/10

Observe and Report - 25th April - Metacritic 5.4 ~ User score 5.4

Seth Rogen, Anna Farris and Jody Hill. All the components point to a nine-out-of-ten film for me. I just didn't think it was too great. Which makes me sad. But it was very very crude/swearing in bits which obviously tickled my pickle.

5.8/10

X-Men Origins : Wolverine - Metacritic 4.3 ~ User score 5.8

I seem to remember enjoying it a bit at the time, but after thinking about it long and hard, its just got too many flaws. So many flaws in fact that it is genuinely offensive. I'll just hilight two. The operation scene....no blood. Fucking ridiculous. And one of my favourite characters, whos name and tagline is "Deadpool - The Merc With The Mouth" because he's more of a wisecrack than Spider-Man. And they sew his mouth up? What the hell were they thinking.

3.9/10

Star Trek - 10th May - Metacritic 8.3 ~ User score 7.9

Absolute blockbuster. Incredible effects, brilliant story, awesome actors and characters, memorable scenes, well constructed dialogue, good villains, scary, exciting. It literally ticked every box. And John Cho? Amazing. It made Star Trek cool....an absolute feat.

9.5/10

Drag Me To Hell - 31st May - Metacritic 8.3 ~ User score 6.1

Super cheesy old school horror, with Justin Long and the uberly hot chick I was popping mad boners over in Tucker. It was awesome! Great story and gruesome just...really well done.

8.3/10

Terminator Salvation - 9th June - Metacritic 5.2 ~ User score 6.0

Holy fuck, what a boring ass shitty movie. Christian Bale was shit, Sam Worthington completely stole the show. Just a shame the show was boring as all hell. Nothing made sense, no good action scenes, and couldn't even guess what the story was about. Robots or something.

2.9/10

The Hangover - 16th June - Metacritic 7.3 ~ User score 7.3

Great cast with good chemistry. An amusing and ludicrous adventure and very funny romp.

8.4/10

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen - 19th June, 25th June -Metacritic 3.5 ~ User score 5.9

The twin robots were fucking shit. The film just would have been sooooo much better if they weren't ridiculous. And also if Blackbird (is that his name) wasn't a weird zaney character too. Apart from that I found it enjoyable. Actually the chick with tongue was weird. But yeah it was good. Hopefully they can fix the small flaws in the third one.

7.3/10

Year One - 4th July - Metacritic 3.4 ~ User score 4.7

I didn't think it was as bad as everyone made out. I do really like Michael Cera though (albeit playing the same character again) Erm yeah it was okay.

5.7/10

Bruno - 12th July -Metacritic 5.4 ~ User score 6.0

Not as good as Borat. Funny though. The best bit was the awful parents scene.

7.8/10

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - 15th July - Metacritic 7.8 ~ User score 6.6

What the fuck was everyone seeing in this film that I didn't see? Piss poor movie, and after I read the book I found out it was a piss poor adaption. Draco Malfoy was fucking amazing and stole the show completely though. But apart from that, it just missed any kind of excitement. Ugh. At least they can't fuck up the last two, as too much amazing stuff happens in the book so they can't cut out enough to ruin it. :p

5.8/10

The Proposal - 30th July - Metacritic 4.8 ~ User score 6.9

Rather good. I have quite a handsome crush on Sandra Bullock, and I love Ryan Reynolds, and the movie was just pretty funny and sweet etc.

7.9/10

The Land of the Lost - 1st August - Metacritic 3.2 ~ User score 4.8

Why did this flop? Will Ferrell, Danny McBride and the lovely Anna Freil. It was pretty hilarious in places, and it was a random zaney story. :)

7.3/10

The Ugly Truth - 8th August - Metacritic 2.8 ~ User score 5.2

Hmmm I'm very shocked by the Metacritic score actually. I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Gerard Butler is amazing IMO. He's very very good and funny in this, and Katherine Heigl is just an absolute beauty, and a pleasure to have to watch for two hours. Really good.

8.45/10

Moon - 12th August - Metacritic 6.7 ~ User score 8.6

Genuine masterpiece. How many films can claim to have (effectively) one actor and survive so well. Sam Rockwell is just amazing in it. Kevin Spacey's voice is an absolute joy to behold, so that was nice, and a pretty great story that certainly had me guessing, and its almost like a dream, you're really not sure what to make of it all and then it all clicks into place. It was really really great.

9.3/10

Inglorious Basterds - 19th August - Metacritic 6.9 ~ User score 7.4

An actual masterpiece. Every scene, every camera angle, and for the most part the acting and the characters are just sublime. Christoph Waltz...is just incredible. The strudel scene, and of course the absolutely mind blowing first scene.

9.6/10

Funny People - 31st August - Metacritic 6.0 ~ User score 6.5

I didn't find it hugely funny, but I did find it very good indeed. It was a lot more drama-focused than comedy-focused (which was a pleasant surprise) and I just think it was a pretty sweet tale.

8.6/10

District 9 - 4th September - Metacritic 8.1 ~ User score 7.8

A surprising film, I found it a fairly unique and engaging movie. A good mix of docu-drama and sci fi. I won't go into the "tackling of current affairs issue" because I don't particularly give a shit when a film does this, I just try to enjoy the films world, not the one I live in. Escapism etc. Don't need parallels drawn blah blah. Really really good though.

8.2/10

Adventureland - 14th September - Metacritic 7.6 ~ User score 6.5

I think this was one of the few films I saw this year where I was on my own in an empty cinema (which usually occurs on a half day from work where I trot off to Hemel) and I do enjoy the solace of my own company and privacy. Anyway I really adored this movie. Completely and utterly up my street, you could argue the film makers entered my mind and made the film of my dreams (Relatable nerdy logical likeable protagonist, Kristen Stewart, Bill Hader, Ryan Reynolds, set in a theme park) its a great teen indy drama. Highly recommended. Nothing exactly groundbreaking, but you don't always want that.

9.2/10

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs - 23rd September - Metacritic 6.6 ~ User score 7.6

As far as I'm aware Sony's first foray into the animated family film? Well it was pretty spectacular! I think it was my first 3D film and I was happy to see it wasn't just shoe horned in, and really just used to make the world more immersive. It was funny with some really good voice acting.

7.5/10

(500) Days of Summer - 24th September - Metacritic 7.6 ~ User score 7.6

Slightly annoying ish characters, but a pretty good movie that I found had a pretty....well kind of an excellent ending and I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop.

8.0/10

Surrogates - 29th September - Metacritic 4.5 ~ User score 5.9

Bruce Willis is cool. The film itself was quite enjoyable, with a cool storyline and quite an air of unpredictibility in it....meaning I didn't know where the story was going to go, not necessarily that it had uber twists.

6.9/10

Toy Story - 2nd October - Metacritic 9.2 ~ User score 8.8 great.

3D re-release, and I noticed the 3D in about 1 bit. So pretty much pointless.

Film itself 9.4/10

3D re-release 0.5/10, just a cash in.

The Invention of Lying - 7th October - Metacritic 5.8 ~ User score 5.2

Pretty good. Nothing more to say really. I liked the hilighting of religion being completely ridiculous (not sure if this was intentional, but thats what I got from it personally) :P

7.8/10

Zombieland - 13th October - Metacritic 7.3 ~ User score 8.1

This was of reasonable surprisement. I mean I was confident I was going to enjoy it because of all the reviews I'd heard, but it was really awesome indeed! I loved the "Rules" aspects of it, the characters although were a bit of a mis-match they worked really well together! Emma Stone is a real beauty! :D

8.8/10

Up - 14th October - Metacritic 8.8 ~ User score 9.0

Heartmelting, decent film with a great story and stunning visuals.

8.3/10

Saw VI - 28th October - Metacritic 3.0 ~ User score 5.4

In some ways it was kind of the best since Saw....kind of. But none of them can hand up any kind of candle to the original at all. Saw really is a modern horror classic. The sequels really are what the industry has come to call "torture porn" but they arguably at least tried to inject a story into this. It is what it is.

4.9/10

The Men Who Stare At Goats - 10th November - Metacritic 5.4 ~ User score 6.9

Also known as "Wink, Ewan McGregor was in Star Wars Nudge Nudge". It was a bit weird, but fine. It was good like. Yeah.

6.8/10

2012 - 17th November - Metacritic 4.9 ~ User score 5.6

The end of the world by Roland Emmerich. I like these apocalypse/natural disaster type films, and although its no The Day After Tomorrow (which I really enjoyed, and felt it had an "epic adventure/journey" quality to it) this was more of an action packed "ZOMG ROMP"

6.0/10

The Twilight Saga : New Moon - 21st November -Metacritic 4.4 ~ User score 4.1

I enjoyed Twilight a lot. I really did. This was just a ridiculous movie. Nothing happened. The plot was a single relationship.....and the characters and their decisions don't make any sense whatsoever. I genuinely think it was written by a child.

2.8/10 (majority of this mark comes from my infactuation with Kristen Stewart)

Paranormal Activity - 29th November - Metacritic 6.8 ~ User score 5.2

Far far too similar to (probably) my favourite horror film, The Blair Witch Project. It was almost a cookie cutter film, just using a different dough. But then that means it was good. And it was. I really need to watch it again at home though, without a cinema full of chavs laughing at the scary bits.

8.0/10

Law Abiding Citizen - 1st December - Metacritic 3.4 ~ User score 6.6

This was quite surprising actually. I've rabitted on a fair amount about characters in these reviews, and I found this character wise very surprising. It was quite interesting to follow this characters fall from heroism into psychopathic villainy. I really enjoyed it. Again Gerard Butler does actually rule.

8.7/10

Avatar - 20th December, 22nd December - Metacritic 8.4 ~ User score 8.4

Surely one of the most immersive films ever? The stunningly good visuals and technology used in the movie create a rich world bustling with life and activity, the story as everyone says is quite standard, but the characters are great, and the acting is excellent by everyone. The villain is slightly cringeworthily cliched, but its fine. Amazing breathtaking film definitely worth multi-cinema views.

9.3/10

WHEW!

I've never been so confident about a film that I'm fairly certain that its going to be one of my favourites of all time, and perhaps this is ignorant of me....but...Kick Ass just looks incredible. Everyone involved is hugely passionate. They havn't messed with the source material, and the trailers and clips are in line with what I imagined. I'm just going to piss myself at this film.

Then of course theres Iron Man 2. It just looks incredible.

Other than that I'm awaiting Hot Tub Time Machine, Daybreakers, Brothers(!!!!!!!!!!),

And hopefully and official confirmation of a sequel to Avatar. :p

Hope you read and enjoyed. :)

I agree with almost all of that but Harry Potter (because you forgot to mention praise for Helena Bonham Carter, who I adore) and 2012 (which is basically the WORST movie this year which many people got fooled by because of the visuals).

I'm infactuated with her too but my GOD was she awful in that movie!

Oh I wouldn't know. I stopped paying attention to any kind of dialogue after the first ten minutes. :p

Also I'm glad someone read it. It is very long. But took me several hours. So thank you.

HAHAHA! I did when I watched it last night which is weird because the first time round, I didn't find it so bad (which is probably because of Kristen Stewart and the amazingness of Dakota Fanning, WHO YOU FORGOT TO MENTION!) but the second time it was awful.

...and I could see you put a lot of effort in so it was worth the read :D

I enjoyed this event ReZ. Thank you for reminding me of films that had escaped my short term memory! :)

I stayed all the way through Revolutionary Road, Oh yes. You all left Vanden and I, the strong ones. Still a boring and overrated film though. :heh:

I still hate your horrible Revolutionary Road review. BUT at least you made up for it by kinda saying it wasn't for you/you shouldn't rate it cause you didn't watch it all.

Walking out of a film is a crime that won't be stood for.

I agree with Harry Potter. And Moon. And Inglorious.

Definitely agree with your Inglourious Basterds review. I've never seen such brilliant acting than in the first scene. Hans Landa is one masterpiece of a movie villain.

Half-Blood Prince is only the second one I've seen. I enjoyed it, but it was a pretty terrible adaptation. There were some cool moments, and indeed Malfoy was brilliant. Showed the evolution of his character from just a class rival to a proper enemy very well IMO. But a lot of the film could have been done a lot better.

They can't be able to fuck up the last two films. They just can't. :blank:

I stopped reading after Inglorious Basterds got 9.6....are you insane?!?!

And Cloudy only getting 7.5 is majorly disappointing!!

Good effort though, and boy do you torture yourself watching some shit :) How can you NOT see In the loop or Hurt Locker or Let the right one in but watch Paul Blart Mall Cop?!?! Crazy!!

I thought Inglorious Bastards was dissapointing, felt to long and a little boring in places.

Though the scenes with the Bastards in are amazing, Brad Pitt is wicked in it.

I'm gonna call the Bear Jew.

It sounds like it really wasn't for you then? The "talky" bits seemed to be the main point. And they were amazing.

Personally I thought Brad Pitt was the worst thing about it. But he wasn't so bad as to detract from the film.

good solid effort. I'd agree with twilight and some others but I really despised watchmen ha..

your best film is my film anyway and it looks pretty with all the pretty colours so good thread.

Thanks man. Aesthetics are important. :)

....are you insane?!?!

Clinically, yes.

Anyone who thinks Avatar is better than District 9 has no say in cinema.

TBH District 9 didn't do anything that The Office didn't do before, and in a much funnier way. Lolz.

An enjoyable read ReZ. These are the 2009 movies I saw last year. :) Also my ratings is how I think of them now once the shiny OMJ'ness has washed off! Rating them is hard. >__<

Che: Part One

Great start to the year. :D It captured the boredom/waiting in guerilla warfare perfectly. except for the unneccesarily cheeky out of place music. I liked the whole empty feel to it.

Che: Part Two

The same. I prefered part 2 though. not sure why.

I'll collectively give them 7.5/10

Seven Pounds

It was a bit sappy and ridiculous + the dog was epically big in it. Touching in places though and I thought it was well acted by Will Smith and the story had potential.

5/10

Bolt

Suprisingly good. heart warming and just generally well made. It was more focused in its story and fell just short of Pixar as oppose to dreamworks who create a crazy tale that feels empty upon rewatch. I've seen these 3 times now and it feels as grand as ever.

7/10

Slumdog Millionaire

Blah. First "disappointment" of the year. I was really not fussed in seeing it and it's okay. Poorly acted by the main guy who was SO wooden. Small children made the movie they were awesome! The story needed to be darker and lose the nonsense about destiny.

6/10

The Young Victoria

This was a nice and relaxed watch with my mother on Mothers Day I think or near to it. I'm unsure whether it was actually good or not as I was just pleased my mum was having a good time. :) I did like it even though it was rather slow it didn't bore me and kept me interested.

6/10

Monsters VS Aliens

Upon rewatch I have to bring it down in its score. It didn't entertain me as much the second time. The story was very much lacking and it felt shorter and was unfortunately not as funny. I sort of wanted more or just for it to be better than I orginally remember!

6/10

Legally Blondes

Flick and Wave. A lot of fun but in no way any good. I just love how these american teen movies view the british people. :D

4/10

Hannah Montana The Movie

Brilliant. Really good family friendly film that everyone seemed to enjoy when I went. Completely relaxing and Miley Cyrus was most excellent. It does what it sets out to do greatly!

I left smiling.

6/10

Star Trek

I didn't want to watch this. I had no interest at all. I'm glad I did it was a fantastic movie experience and I left completely in shock that I just completely loved it. The actors were well chosen and I even got the nods to Star Trek and was like why am I filled with this nerdy joy? :p

7.5/10

Miss March

Blah, not really any good. My brain switched off and I was watching it without even thinking. Some bits were stupidly funny and I laughed once.

SO I STABBED HER WITH A FORK

4/10

Dragonball Z Evoloution

This provided me with more lulz. so many of them! WHAT? I'M BUILDING A BRIDGE!

I had no idea what was going on the whole time. None of it made sense and the end was mental. Laughably bad. Good to watch if you want a cheap laugh.

Unless you watched and liked Dragon Ball Z when you were younger as then you will not be laughing. O___O

3/10

Powder Blue

Definition of trying to hard. It tried to create this weird atmosphere and vibe and get you thinking about wider issues which it did slightly succeed in but it lacked any oomph behind it as I was disconnected from the characters and such and felt no emotion for them even though it was a kind of depressing movie. A solid attempt.

6.5/10

Lesbian Vampire Killers

One of the worst films I've ever had to witness.

1/10

Night of the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

Man this was a bad movie but I strangely liked it. Reminded me of films I watched when I was younger on channel 5.

4/10

The Girlfriend experience

Ending makes the film. The rest is filler but good filler. Sasha Grey (pornstar) was well cast in this I felt. She brought across the right emotions/expressions in her eyes. The ultimate loneliness.

Kind of beautiful but didn't quite reach amazing for me.

7.5/10

The Pink Panther 2

Silliness.

3/10

Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder

My favourite of the 4 Futurama movies. (if I remember correctly) I approve.

7/10

Sunshine Cleaning

I love Emily Blunt. I have like a secret crush on this movie. I adore it even though it is flawed.

7/10

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Isla Fisher. <3 funfunfunfunfunfunSHOPPINGfunfunfunfunfun.

6.5/10

Man this made me happy.

Ice Age 3: Dawn of Dinosaurs

Far better than Ice Age 2: Meltdown. It had a bigger sense of adventure and I love the characters in Ice Age some good new additions as well I thought. Animation wise I thought it was clean and crisp and

7/10

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Oh dear. The second "Disappointment" of the year. Again I wasn't too fussed about seeing this. Poorly adapted I felt. May as well have dropped the half blood prince bit altogether when it was revealed at the end I was like OH YEAH! meh. Lacked any excitement. Dumbledore was handled poorly and Malfoy was weak. The whole thing was a mess for me.

Ron wasn't on top form either. :heh:

5/10

Moon

Amazing. The time flew by. I wanted more. :santa:

8/10

Watchmen

Epic, sort off. I haven't read the graphic novel. On its own merits I think it stands well by itself and I loved the characters especially Rocharch (spelt it wrong) and the story was good!

7.5/10

My Sisters Keeper

Emotional and depressing. It was handled well though and felt genuine and not over done. I cared what was happening. Film messed with my head it felt so heavy afterwards.

7/10

17 Again

Wow! Zac Efron, well done. Surprisingly funny albeit predictable. Matthew perry looked old.

6/10

G-force

I wanted this to be more awesome than it was but it was average at best even though it was about Guinea Pigs and Moles etc.

5.5/10

The Hangover

I watched this alone so it wasn't as funny as it should have been! Also it was hyped up so much I was expecting something great but it is still your usual comedy affair just slightly better than normal.

7/10

The Proposal

I have a soft spot for this movie. It made me laugh several times which I want from a comedy. Also Sandra Bullock.

6/10

Inglourious Basterds

Genius. I didn't get bored once. Each scene was carefully crafted and it just reeks of win. I loved it more upon my second watch. Hans Landa is an excellent villian expertly played by Christoper Waltz the movies secret weapon.

8/10

The Time Travellers Wife

Confusing. A good concept but not executed properly.

6/10

Drag Me To Hell

This film was hilarious. The ending was great. The inbetween was good enough.

6/10

500 Days Of Summer

Incredible. I was aroused so much from start to finish. The characters were believable. The story portrayed love just the way I like it. The soundtrack was immense. The whole thing was perfectly formed to create such a stimulating experience I was gyrating in my chair. Definately gonna get this on DVD when it comes out.

8/10

District 9

Phew! Badass. The first half of the film is excellent. The fact it is set in South Africa is great. The fact that we interfere with the aliens and bring the problem upon ourselves is great. The story takes a little old trip down predictable lane about halfway through and i would have liked to have seen it go in a different direction but this didn't really detract from the greatness of the first part as they kept it in tone with the whole movie.

7.5/10

Up

FABULOUS. :yay:

8.5/10

Zombieland

Does what it says on the tin. A fantastic ride. I wanted more Zombies though.

7/10

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Good. The film could have done with being longer to flesh out the story more. It is unfortunate Heath Ledger died as I was enjoying his performance. The other people who took over his parts looked a bit ridiculous and halted the feel of the movie for me.

7/10

Couples Retreat

My name is Stanely with a C.

I laughed A LOT. I grinned stupidly, I clapped excitedly, I wiggled, MAN WAS THIS FILM INTENSE.

I should definately enjoyed this movie as much as I did.

6/10

Coraline

Very good but falls just short of being great. It lacks that magic touch.

7.5/10

Paranormal Activity

The audience made this movie as everyone was terrified and it was fun to see their reactions. Otherwise it made me laugh too much to be taken seriously!

The Third "Disappointment" of the year. Again I didn't really want to go and watch it. Visually it gave me multiple orgasms but the story is weak, the characters did nothing for me... just bland. The main villian was cheesy as hell. The design of the creatures was great but there should have been more of them to create a bigger and better vibrant world. There must be more than the handful of species we got to see! the birds were the baddest cats in the sky though so that is okay. The design of the Na'vi turns everyone on lets not lie. It is a kind of generic design though. I want to love this movie more but for the moment it just didn't click with me. The emotion just didn't do anything for me.

I want to watch it again. I think I'm being too harsh! ^___^

6.5/10

My Top 5 Films of 2009

1. Up

2. 500 Days Of Summer

3. Moon

4. Inglourious Basterds

5. District 9

I had a lot of fun. Having worked in the cinema over the summer I watched many more movies than I would normally have and saw a whole range of things and I enjoyed each and every experience in a way. I love going to the cinema.
