Eddage Posted Sunday at 09:43 PM Posted Sunday at 09:43 PM What the fuck is going in with this virtual game card shit?! I've just turned on my Switch for the first time in a while and updated and it won't let me play any of my games without loading a virtual game card. It says "In order to load virtual game cards to this console, it will need to be paired with Eddage's console, shown below".... the console it shows is my nephew's??!! In my account settings it says "This console" in the 'Pass-enabled console" and this was my primary Switch before the update, so why do I need to link to my nephew's Switch??!!
S.C.G Posted Sunday at 09:54 PM Posted Sunday at 09:54 PM (edited) Did you ever upgrade your Switch, and give the old Switch to you Nephew or something similar? Even so, if you transferred everything over to your new Switch, I still can't see a reason why this would be happening. Do you share a Nintendo Switch Online subcription? As part of a family plan? Aside from that, I have no idea, and I'd probably ask @Glen-i as he might know a bit about game-sharing. Edited Sunday at 09:55 PM by S.C.G
Eddage Posted Sunday at 10:07 PM Posted Sunday at 10:07 PM I have a family plan online subscription, but my nephew's Switch was a brand new one he got a few years ago. At one point I set it up as my primary so he could play Mario Kart without having to buy it but I changed it back to my console being the primary about 6 months ago. I know that worked because it no longer had to check if the software can be played when starting a game. I've gone into my Nintendo account and it says virtual game cards "can be loaded" next to my nephew's but mine says "not paired". I'm wondering if my nephew has loaded one onto his Switch which has locked it out of mine without pairing the consoles. But surely they would only let you load a virtual game card onto the primary Switch... right?!
Eddage Posted Sunday at 10:25 PM Posted Sunday at 10:25 PM Okay, I unpaired his console through my account online and can now load them onto my Switch. So it obviously locked me out because he must've tried to play one my games downloaded to his Switch and loaded the virtual game card. This then meant my PRIMARY Swicth couldn't load a game without pairing localy. Why the fuck would it it let him load one of MY GAMES to his Switch and then lock the PRIMARY CONSOLE out from playing ALL games. Fucking Nintendo, that's why... 🙄
Nicktendo Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Nintendo have started passive-aggressively reminding me about my backlog via email. 7

You should send one back saying you're saving your Switch 1 games for the Switch 2 launch because there's sod all else to play on the thing. 4

Out of curiosity. Is your account the only one on his Switch? I'm just wondering if he unwittingly "beat you to the punch" and loaded a game on your account before you downloaded the update on your Switch?

No, he has his own account but he still could’ve selected mine when trying to get it to work. On the Nintendo account website it does show that his Switch was last updated a week ago, so before I updated mine. Either way though the fact it let him set any of this up using my account on a Switch that is not designated as my primary Switch is stupid.
Hero-of-Time Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Another remaster/port on the cards? Quote So, normally trademark renewals don't mean much, it's mostly just for companies to protect their IP, but in this case (as pointed out in the reddit post) there might be more to it. "Hotel Dusk: Room 215" was actually released in japan under the title "Wish Room: Angel's Memory". Nintendo renewed the trademark for the Japanese title back in 2015 (valid until 2026) and have now filed a trademark for the international title there as well (filed on may 9th, went public may 19th). 2

I'd be very interested in picking this up, I've added a copy of Hotel Dusk to my eBay basket numerous times but never pulled the trigger, despite it going for so relatively little. So I certainly hope so! To give them credit where it's due, because I think they did some decent investigative work to look into the trademark more and because Reddit is usually an atrocious source, the person who did some digging into this was BreafingBread on Reddit (as in...breathing? What a username 😞 Quote So, this might be a reach, but I think it's notable enough to comment on here. I first saw this through NecroLipe on twitter. He posted no source, so I went after it because I couldn't believe it. I googled the Japanese name of the game and found this article talking about the new trademark. In the article I found the link to the trademark: Here's a screenshot of the trademark for easy access: https://i.imgur.com/5EGfVSG.png It was filed by Nintendo on May 9th, and it went public yesterday on May 18th (May 19th in Japan). You may think that this is just a renewal of the old patent, but it doesn't seem to be. In Japan, the game had a different name and it was called "Wish Room: Angel's Memory". The trademark for "Wish Room" was renewed in 2015 and is valid until 2026. Here's a screenshot of the Wish Room trademark for easy access: https://i.imgur.com/9AoEWvM.png So, for some reason, Nintendo randomly trademarked the international name of the game in Japan. My head goes straight to either a Another Code: Recollection style remake or DS Classics Switch Online, but I think if they were to do that, they would've announced it with GameCube Classics at the Switch 2 Direct. I mean, I totally buy it; this feels like the type of game you revisit late in a generation, they've done Another Code already, and the busiest time of the gaming announcements calendar is fast approaching. See you at the Not-E3 or September Direct I guess, Hotel Dusk?

killthenet Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago It would be fantastic if Arc Sys remake the Hotel Dusk games next, there were definitely issues with Another Code Recollection (mainly that there could have been more interactive and unique puzzles) but it was so good to see it brought back and given the glow up that it got. The prospect of them doing the same for Kyle Hyde's stories is really exciting
