But hopefully this time the cycle will be broken.

What do 400 MS points compare to in real money? Just so we have a possible jumping off point to know the pricing for PSN and Wii.

Approximately £3.60... if you buy a 2000 M$ points card for £17.99... less if you can find them cheaper.

The full soundtrack has been leaked (and apparently is real, though it may be an early April Fool). Debating if I should listen to it or wait.

I think they made the same mistake as Sonic 3 - they're trying too hard with the music. I preferred the simplicity of the ones in Sonic 1 and 2. Great melodies and easy to remember. Casino Street Zone (Act 1) is closest to it.

That's if it's real, of course.

Really? I thought overall Sonic 3 did a better job of the soundtrack, it was 'braver' with its sound. Hydrocity is just abosolutely made of win.

Saying that Chemical Plant is probably the best of the lot.

EDIT: Saying that I just listened to a few of the supposed Sonic 4 soundtrack and well, damn, what a step back. The boss music is truly awful.

Sounds grand best i could hope....Its hard to judge until I play the game and maybe they grow on me..

Only thing ill say is they seem to be uses the same patches for each song.... same synth brass for each you know and because of that they kinda all sound the same

but i love this synthy stuff and defo prefer to the shite that appeared on the sonic rush games

the mad gear songs all sound great though.. :D

boss music is shite though.. best sonic boss music is simply

I suppose the big difference to me is that I didn't really play Sonic 3 until much later. The Sonic 1 and 2 music is burnt into my brain.

The music is pretty good, much better than some of the recent shit. Really like the Lost Labrynth songs. They sound very old school Megadrive.

youll grow to prefer sonic 3 and knuckles music. really pushed the megadrive to it's limits in sound.

Hydrocity act 2 is utterly sublime and is one of my favourite pieces in Sonic's, well, 'Sonic's'.

It's probably the way it's funkalicious and those turning pillar things moving up and down coupled with the slick graphics on Sonic rotating just oozes SEGA at their peak.

I'd love more tracks like the original 2 outings though. Akin to 8-Bit rather than 16. I personally love the Mastersystem Sonic 1 music. Beautiful.

No no! Sonic 3 owns it, I mean, it had Michael frikkin Jackson. It was much more up tempo and as tapedeck said, Hydrocity is a work of genius.

Don't get me wrong I love Knucles soundtrack, it just seems to plod along a bit, like Mushroom Hill and Sandopolis. Although Death Egg is a hilight!

In no particular order, I present you...the best 3 pieces of music in Sonic games.

3. Star Light Zone - Sonic 1

This zone used to be my favourite in Sonic 1 simply because of the music. Listening back to it now I feel as though it needs more texture, but the simplicity is part of what makes it so great, and given hardware limitations I still think this is a rather magical piece of music.

2. Ice Cap Zone Act 1 - Sonic 3

I don't think I've heard a piece of music in gaming that conveys the feeling of an icy cavern as much as this one. It's so damn catchy too, this remains one of my favourite pieces of gaming music of all time.

1. Doomsday Zone - Sonic 3 + Knuckles

Absolutely perfect for the situation. I've never heard a piece of gaming music that gets me as much as this one. My foot is tapping like mad as I listen to it and all I want to do is beat Robotnik and collect Rings to stay alive. Boostboostboostboost-CRASSSSH! Only 8 more hits to go... :D Brilliance.

Can never get enough of classic Sonic music :) Pretty pleased with the leaked stuff - could do with more variety in the voices though. As has been pointed out elsewhere, it's all swaped in synth lead; this was never the case with the Megadrive games. Perhaps it did creep in in 3D Blast tho (?) which was largely Jun Senoue - as is Sonic 4 apparently. But still, as good as could be hoped with nice melodies, and they'll probably seem better in game.

The Jackson tracks weren't used in the end though and Howard Drossin and co were drafted in for a redo. At best, there's only really a hangover of MJ. See here.

Edit: Is it just me or is Star Light Zone uncannily BeeGees-esque? :D

I'm more bothered by the flailing with open arms thing after the jumps - it's more Mickey Mouse than Sonic. But, meh, you take the rough with the smooth. Overall it looks pretty good. Love the tilting of Lost Labyrinth; I'm assuming on Ps3 and Wii this'll be motion controlled. Nice.

After seeing those videos everything looks rather nice indeed... except for that kinds 'dodgy' looking mine-cart stage where you use the Left and right triggers to tilt the level? Obviously that stage will work better on the Wii version but even then it still probably won't play that well, I really don't know why they just didn't mimic DKC for that stage... now there's an example of a mine-cart level done right.

Ya i'm not a big fan of mushroom hill but then again not a big fan of angel lake either from sonic 3?

but from sonic and knuckles

death egg like you said

flying battery

mini boss act 1

sky santuary

lava reef act 1

hidden palace

in sonic 3 I really believe carnival night zone was a dud... just looped and there is Very little different between act 1 and 2.. very small.

sonic 4: things I noticed

1: so they decided to keep the lock on move from the sonic adventure games?..... I'm willing to accept this as it quickens the pace of the game but I feel that may come under fire from those expecting a true 16 bit sonic? I remember how bitchy megaman fans were about the slide move and how they removed it in megaman 9.. same here.

2: what the shit is happening in lost labyrinth act 2!?

3: it looks like 2 buttons will be used in this... seems they've added the R move from sonic rush.. how do I describe it... he LEANS towards a direction.. unneeded in my opinion.

4: music seems to work well. Not as good but worthy enough :)

5: animations are just not right.....simple as. they overanimated him.. takes sonic a while to get speed without using that lean move.

overall though? I think its looks ok... biggest problem is going to be the feel of the game and forcing motion control into it I think.
