Jimbob Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Anyone else watch this weeks episode. Car vs Letter and British Bulldog: Evo vs Army Pretty good challenges i thought.
dwarf Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 I thought the ending was poor but otherwise it was good.
Retro_Link Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Yeah pretty good tonight. Usain Bolt was a good guest, and I really liked the Focus and Megane comparison at the start.
Chris the great Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 yeah, good episode, but the army bit was silly. id rather they just showed off the frankly awsome army expuiment smashing caravans and shit, without clarksons tomfoolery.
Molly Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Does anyone know what the music was on the first car (the green ASBO ford focus). It's been in a film and I really love it, want to find out what it is!
BlueStar Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I don't want any of these amazing £500,000 cars they test on Top Gear by racing them across countries. I want the one the cameramen are in that stays ahead of them the whole race, filming the supercar out the back window
Dante Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 (edited) The best episode after the poor last two episodes. Edited July 19, 2009 by Dante
Cube Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Gahh...Firefox is nearly crashing due to an over-large, pointless animated image.
Caris Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Dante will you ever learn? We don't need gifs and pictures in every single thread.
Retro_Link Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I dunno, seem to remember enjoying last weeks. I enjoyed Sienna Miller as a guest, thought she came across really well, lovely infact. And I enjoyed some of the Alpine trip (the race circuit, the ice circuit, and the general mischieviousness), but the Jaguar/BMW bit was boring.
Gizmo Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I can't help but feel that Top Gear has begun it's inevitable decline, after the peak of the last 2 or 3 series (probably starting around the time of the Polar Special, right up until the end of last series). It will still be good for a few more years yet, but never quite as good as it was. I hope I'm wrong.
Retro_Link Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 The Vietnam Special last series has for me been one of the best ever episode, but then again it's something very different. But I know what you mean. Sometimes it feels a little desperate for idea, and almost like it's trying to hard. And sometimes I actually think I'd like to see a few more car reviews, even if they are in an over dramatic/comical way... like they did with the new Ford Fiesta with the race through the shopping mall and the beach landing etc... But I'll still keep watching, I love it too much! And because The Stig is beyond awesome!
dwarf Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Some of the lines they come out with, even though we get the same sort of cynicism every week, are just brilliant though. I was chuckling every now and then, it's better than most stuff on TV, but maybe it is on the downslope? I'm not sure, but the series hasn't been great yet.
Retro_Link Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 The bit tonight when Jeremy is fixing his car outside the hotel, and they cut to James and Richard at the dinner table... "Well at least we get to spend some quality time together" ...had me in stitches!... The knowing, trying not to laugh look on Richards face at the situation and the fact that they're slowing turning James into some what of a gay character... was hillarious!

The best period of Top Gear spans between the Polar and Vietnam specials (including both America episodes, Africa, the channel crossing, etc).
dan-likes-trees Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Exactly. The best period of Top Gear spans between the Polar and Vietnam specials (including both America episodes, Africa, the channel crossing, etc). Bit early to say that isn't it, considering it's only been like 5 episodes since the Vietnam special? Sure, there hasn't been anything as great as that this series but it's been good fun. I've spent the majority of today catching up on the past 3 weeks and they've been great episodes! "That dog looks miserable" was great, and the race against the postmen was pretty good... they do need another big adventure next season though.
dwarf Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Ah yes, that dog line was pure brilliance! Although thinking back the 'He's delighted' one was better even.

"That dog looks miserable" was great, and the race against the postmen was pretty good... they do need another big adventure next season though. Just a feeling I'm getting. Like, all the good ideas have been done now, and they need to keep coming up with weird and wonderful things to do. For example, the race against the postie struck me as being really pointless.
Jimbob Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Twas a good episode, which i watched yesterday. Finally, the spare car the TG producers provide in the case that one of the £1,500 cars May, Hammond and Clarkson purchased was used. That had me in stitches. And so did the final part at the end. Awesome.
Dyson Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 OLIVEEEEER!!!! Quite possibly my favourite Top Gear moment that
Nintendohnut Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I've enjoyed this series so far but I would agree that there hasn't be an episode yet that is as good as those in older serieseseses. I think the guests this year are generally better and I like that they are actually reviewing cars that cost less than £80,000 so normal people can actually afford them, but we need a more epic race than one against a letter, surely. I think the high point so far this series was when James May went in the car with the rally driver at the abandoned airport and the biker turned up. That was some breathtaking driving, it really was.
