Jimbob Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I read this earlier on on MSN. Youtube are pulling the plug on UK users watching premium music videos http://entertainment.uk.msn.com/music/features/article.aspx?cp-documentid=14933751>1=61501 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7933565.stm Don't know if this effects anyone or anything. I think this is a spiteful decision from Google for its users.
D_prOdigy Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Yeah it's a pretty big bummer. I've noticed a few taken down but most seem to still work fine for me. Then again, perhaps by music taste is not "premium" in the Google/PRS books.
MoogleViper Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Don't know if this affects anyone or anything. I think this is a spiteful decision from Google for its users. Sorry but this annoys me.
dwarf Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I heard about this but someone said it didn't matter because you can use youtube.com instead. Not sure if that works or not.
Slaggis Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I thought "Meh", then I tried to access a Britney video and died a little inside. Surely it won't last for long?
Serebii Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I think it's ridiculous So much for a "free" and open internet. Next they'll want me to ban certain countries from viewing sections of my site. It's ridiculous. Just another way the music industry is trying to control and get money. I heard they even proposed a license you need to have a mp3 player and other music playing things just because someone else may hear the music you're playing and as they didn't pay for it its illegal
Shorty Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I heard about this but someone said it didn't matter because you can use youtube.com instead. Not sure if that works or not. That seems really, really unlikely.
Dante Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I thought "Meh", then I tried to access a Britney video and died a little inside. Surely it won't last for long? I think it will last longtime Haggis. Since youtube videos had the message saying you cant see this video outside the US you know it wont be long for blocking UK viewers from other videos.
Kirkatronics Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 People will just repost them, or use a proxy to see them. you can also change the address from uk. to something like nl. .
Serebii Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 It doesn't do it by what site you access, it just does it by IP, but like you said its easy to proxy into it. However, the general public have no knowledge in that.
Supergrunch Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I only realised this today, when I tried to watch one and it told me it "wasn't available in my country." It seems pretty unreasonable to me, though of course there are still proxys that work with flash. Sorry but this annoys me. Maybe he was trying to effect your annoyance.
Daft Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I thought "Meh", then I tried to access a Britney video and died a little inside. I think that's what is supposed to happen anyway.
MoogleViper Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Maybe he was trying to effect your annoyance. Well it had the right affect.
Supergrunch Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 (edited) Well it had the right effect. Corrected. Mine was actually right - effect is a verb meaning something like "bring about a change," as well as its more common use as a noun. Edited March 10, 2009 by Supergrunch
Dyson Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Well it had the right affect. This post made me laugh
Kirkatronics Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Its not stopping me viewing videos, whats wrong with it =/ Im glad though.
Slaggis Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I think that's what is supposed to happen anyway. I'm both shocked and disgusted Daft. :p Prepare for a Britney inspired beat down, when I've worked out what exactly that would be.
MoogleViper Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Corrected. This post made me laugh You do realise it was a joke?
Kirkatronics Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Oh, those 2 must have slipped trough the net.
Coolness Bears Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 (edited) I'm both shocked and disgusted Daft. :p Prepare for a Britney inspired beat down, when I've worked out what exactly that would be. you could shave your head and hit him over the head with an umbrella? :p Edited March 10, 2009 by Coolness Bears
Kirkatronics Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 You do realise it was a joke? I did, so surely they did.
Slaggis Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 you could shave your head and hit him over the head with an umbrella? I was thinking more Slave 4 U era, than the Bald Woman With Umbrella era. A beat down, but with added slagness.
Supergrunch Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 You do realise it was a joke? Yep, was just pointing out that I was trying to do this.
