Dante Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 EA SENDS PLAYERS TO HELL IN EPIC ACTION GAME (December 15, 2008) – An abducted soul, a lifetime of sins, a journey to the depths of despair. Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that EA Redwood Shores, the studio behind hit horror game Dead Space™, is making Dante’s Inferno™ – a third-person action adventure adaptation of the medieval epic poem The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. The dark fiction gave birth to the Tuscan Italian dialect and is widely considered to have defined the western world’s contemporary conception of hell and purgatory. The poem tells the tale of Dante who journeys through the twisted, menacing nine circles of hell in pursuit of his beloved Beatrice. Written in the 14th Century, The Divine Comedy was published and read aloud in Italian (unlike the Bible), thereby making the poem accessible to the mass public. The poem delivers a striking and allegorical vision of the Christian afterlife and the punishments of hell. In part one, known as Dante’s Inferno, Dante traverses all nine circles of hell; limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, wrath, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery. “The time is right for the world of interactive entertainment to adapt this literary masterpiece, and to re-introduce Dante to an audience that, until now, may have been unfamiliar with the remarkable details of this great work of art,” said Jonathan Knight, executive producer for Dante’s Inferno. “It’s the perfect opportunity to fuse great gameplay with great story.” For more information on Dante’s Inferno, please visit http://www.dantesinferno.com and sign up for the newsletter and bookmark for news, features and upcoming events. LazyBoy Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Brave of them, that's for sure. Press are going to have a field day with this. And with the ever increasing quality of EA games this might turn out to be quite interesting.
Sheikah Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 And here was me thinking you'd created a new game Dante! But EA sending players to hell...how ironic, lol. Does it have DRM?
Dan_Dare Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 And here was me thinking you'd created a new game Dante! But EA sending players to hell...how ironic, lol. dude, so 2006. Game could amuse. Thoughtful adventure, please EA. Distinct lack of want for fickle licence cladding on a 'mature action game' or some shit from this typist.
Sheikah Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 There is no point in asking anything of EA because they are arseholes of the worst kind.
Dan_Dare Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 quite so. Damn them for producing some of the finest software and releases of 2008. Damn them!
Sheikah Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 quite so. Damn them for producing some of the finest software and releases of 2008. Damn them! Their stupidity of including DRM in PC titles (superior versions of their games, not the 360 versions) meant that people went and got the non-DRM pirated versions, meaning they lost money. People who bought the real thing got frustrated with DRM. I don't care how good the games they produced were by throwing money at them, they're still arseholes.

Dont buy the real thing then, saves money, time and makes you better than them. and 360 is the superior gaming machine out of them 2 What i played of dead space i liked, gonna pick it up wen i find it in a 2 for £30 or sumthin, hopin this shud be good, i like the idea of walkin around hell beatin up satans bitches
Sheikah Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 and 360 is the superior gaming machine out of them 2 Stopped reading right there. PC version is always superior, everyone knows that (graphically, load times, number of options of control, free online). And for games like C&C: RA3 you can hardly argue the toss on this.

PC version is always superior, everyone knows that (graphically, load times, number of options of control, free online). And for games like C&C: RA3 you can hardly argue the toss on this. Mouse + keyboard are shit when compared to a pad, much more relaxed. PC Chair, wank when compared to a fat comfy sofa. Its not all about technical specs, u shud realise this considering your always right.
Sheikah Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Mouse + keyboard are shit when compared to a pad, much more relaxed. Which is why I said 'control options' was another plus point for PC games. You can either play with mouse and keyboard or joypads. With the 360 it's pretty much joypad only for most games. Microsoft released a 360 controller for the PC: PC Chair, wank when compared to a fat comfy sofa. My PC is linked up to my HDTV via DVI -> HDMI cable. This is possible with any HDTV. Any. So a lot of your "PC is for sitting in a chair by a monitor using a keyboard and mouse" arguments are pretty much null and void. Its not all about technical specs, u shud realise this considering your always right. In a debate about which version is superior, specs are a big player in determining this. Considering PC games can look and feel twice as good as their console counterparts to play (Oblivion and and Bioshock are good examples that spring to mind) I think it is worth mentioning. And good PC setups aren't that expensive anymore either. My point is that EA decided to gimp paying customers who bought the PC versions. Not really clever, as it resorted in more piracy.
S.C.G Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 Back on topic, I was allready pretty dissapointed as when I read the title I thought it was gonna be a DMC game lol anyway it's got potential I guess but either way I'm not really bothered.
Mundi Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Massive bumb but this is just too good! http://www.destructoid.com/what-s-in-the-dante-s-inferno-box--153278.phtml
Retro_Link Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 New Trailer *complete with Transformer sfx!* I'm just not getting this game yet, it looks pretty boring atm.
Retro_Link Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 This will outsell GOW and all the others combined easily.I think it's more likely to be a flop.
MATtheHAT Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I quite enjoyed the demo, I love games running 60fps. They just play so much better. Burnout Paradise, MW2, Ratchet & Clank, all games that look ace running because of a nice framerate.
Daft Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 (edited) I'm looking forward to trying this. The souce material rocks and although this'll be highly inaccurate, I'm sure it'll also be familiar. Edit: Just played this and really enjoyed it. I think a big part of the reason I don't like stuff like Beyonetta and that crap is because the setting is just too weird, and in Beyonetta's case just perverted at points. Mundi Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 I am going to reserve my judgement until I try the demo. Which is at what the 22 dec for xbox 360? Although I must say that I think the setting is very interesting and I want to play solely to see the setting and plot. Or read the Divine Comedy I think a big part of the reason I don't like stuff like Beyonetta and that crap is because the setting is just too weird, and in Beyonetta's case just perverted at points. At points? Understatement of the century.
Solo Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 The demo is up on PSN and Xbox Live. I just played through it and if you're a fan of God of War then well... this is basically God of War. The giant scythe isn't qutie as satisfying to use as Kratos' whip thingys though.
dwarf Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 When people said God of War rip off I didn't realise the extent to which it was true. Played the demo, it's just unbelievable how much this game has copied it. From big things like the cinematic camera angles when wondering around to small things like the green gas balls for health, and QTE boss finishes, it doesn't cease to show you how desperate they were to create an identical experience.
... Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 I for one thank the God of War ripoff. I don't own a Playstation and I don't want one, I'm not really too fond of it. So I can't play God of War, which is one of the few great exclusive titles the PS3 has. So, Dante's Inferno fills that spot for me. Also, later down the line will come Castlevania Lords of Shadow, another similar game, we'll see how that one comes off. Anyway, I just beat the Dante's Inferno demo and I liked it a lot. So it rips off God of War shamelessly, yeah, no one can deny that. But it's great anyway. It's not a poor rip off. The story will be engaging, hopefully, it's based on great source material and the levels have the chance to be great too, based on the 9 Circles of Hell. And I liked the upgrade and level up system. But honestly, I wish this wasn't a hack & slash game... If it were a slower paced game based on exploration and discovery (like Bioshock or Metroid Prime, for example) based on The Divine Comedy, I think it would have the potential to be a lot better and more involving, as you'd be more up close and personal with the environments of Hell, as opposed to always being engaged in fast paced combat filmed from a bird's eye view.
Daft Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 So it rips off God of War shamelessly, yeah, no one can deny that. But it's great anyway. It's not a poor rip off. Except, it is a poor rip off. I've only just got the GoW collection, completed the first one a couple days ago and I'm playing through the second one now and all I can say is Dante's Inferno is poor compared to them... ...and they're Playstation 2 games.
... Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Poor in what respect? I never finished a God of War game, but I played both of them at a friend's house a couple years ago, and frankly I don't really see a difference. People are saying wielding Dante's scythe isn't as satisfying as wielding Krato's whip, but there really isn't a difference, as far as I can tell. It's just psychological, because of the fact that the game is a rip off. I enjoyed the demo very much and I was just watching all the available videos, where the devs talk about each circle of Hell and the game looks awesome to me.
