navarre Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 What's your opinion on guns? Personally, I'm all for guns in necessary combat. But laws like the 2nd Amendment are wrong. People have a right to defend themselves by conventional means. Not by ending another person's life.
Sanchez Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Err, I think you should have expanded on your definition of conventional before you posted. How is a gun not a convential weapon? I can kill someone with a knife, stick or teapot cosy as well, does that make them unconvential? To summarise my opinion: Introducing guns into a society shouldn't be necessery. Removing them where they are established (such as the US) is dangerous and likely an impossibility.

Slaggis Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Agreed Dom. But, why they were ever allowed into public hands in America I don't know. They should be reserved for people that rightly need them, not just someone that might want a gun. It's just mental. Guns = Fail.

They should be reserved for people that rightly need them, not just someone that might want a gun. It's just mental. Guns = Fail. I think it makes them feel safer or bigger. Which is only slightly ironic, because guns have ended more good lives then they've saved.
The fish Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Guns don't kill people, people do. True, but I'm certain the gun has a pretty important role. It certainly makes the killing a lot easier... Civilians should never, ever be armed. Ever. People untrained and undisciplined allowed to have very powerful, very easy to use, and easy to conceal ranged weaponry is never a good thing.

Guns were introduced into the US so that should the goverment become corrupt the people would be able to rise up and overthrow them.

Guns = Fail. 2nd amendment in it's most literal sense: the right to form a militia, thus the right to bear arms. The reasoning is thus, the people of america hated the government, they thought it was tyranical, so in future planning they gave themselves the 2nd amendment after the war to prevent bad governments from happening.
Shino Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Bullets should be made in gold and cost a fortune, criminals wouldn't dodge or shoot them.
jayseven Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 The bullets didn't kill him. It was the fall. [/bad, bad, bad paraphrasing] Er, righty-ho! GUNS! Guns are for people who believe the best form of defence is offense. Guns make people feel safer because to them 'safe' means 'the ability to fuck up someone else worse than they can fuck me up'. The 2nd amendment basically says that you have the right to protect yourself from other people abusing this amendment. It's just a silly. A SILLY. Etcblah.
Guest Stefkov Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Guns don't kill people, rappers do. /thread I was thinking the exact same thing and was about to post it. I'm glad I read threads. If we're talking about what we think of guns in general then I think they are a marvelous invention. I have a book with pictures of loads of different guns and it's just amazing how they changed through the years to an effective killing weapon today.
chairdriver Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Realistically I'd prefer guns had never been invented.
navarre Posted April 15, 2008 Author Posted April 15, 2008 Realistically I'd prefer guns had never been invented. I wouldn't. Guns may be a bad way of killing someone, but at least it's a little more 'civilised' than sticking a sword through their heart.

The Greeks had less violent way of doing this. It's called democracy.
chairdriver Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I wouldn't. Guns may be a bad way of killing someone, but at least it's a little more 'civilised' than sticking a sword through their heart. It's really not though. Anyone can pull a trigger. Stabbing someone is different.
Raining_again Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 It's really not though. Anyone can pull a trigger. Stabbing someone is different. *nods* So true Guns are evil. It really is a shame they were invented.
Sanchez Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 It was a shame that WWII happened but it had its advantages... it greatly accelerated invention of computers and the internet. In a similar way guns rapidly improved health care. Not to say that it balances out but they have their silver lining.
navarre Posted April 15, 2008 Author Posted April 15, 2008 It's really not though. Anyone can pull a trigger. Stabbing someone is different. I'm not sure how you can compare two different ways of killing people on a civilised scale. The civilised bit was not my own words, just something I saw in an American blog.
Paj! Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 On another site me and some people here frequent, I have massive rants against guns. "It's not guns that kill people, it's people!" - fuck that. I wonder why there's so many school killings in the US? - Guns. I wonder why the murder rate is so high in the Us? - Guns. I wanted to slap the senator woman who legalised the carrying of arms on campus in some US state. You can tell in an arguement, it'll get heated, and someone'll dive into their bag, and the other person will grab their gun and shoot instinctively, without realising the now dead person wasn't even reaching for a gun. Guns are a plague, but unfortunatly the US caught it and didn't bother to get treated. Nice one. GUNS For The Loss. Guns are tools for killing. If you say "But people would find other ways to kill people!"m, stfu. A knife-wielding person holding up a class is hardly going to do much damage/any at all, if played right, but a gun allows the person to walk in, killing anyone he/she wants at their own leisure. To add; Let the only people to have guns be the army. / VERY high up policeman in extreme cases.
