conzer16 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 It's not quite St. Patrick's Day just yet, but tis only an hour and a half away from me now! Tis me first Paddy's Day outside of Ireland and it's going to be a little strange, quite different but I'm going hell for leather celebrating it! It's not a bank holiday in New Zealand, so I'm expected to show up for lectures tomorrow! Hah! Fat chance! So to everyone on here, (both Irish and Irish for the day that's in it!) Beannachtaà na Féile!!! HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!!
Raining_again Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Wooo! St Paddys day, time for celebrating and drinking stupidly ^_____^
Ramar Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 This will sour the topic but I really hate it when people aren't Irish, and use the day as an excuse to get totally wrecked. And then when St George's day comes, no one gives a shit. Have a good day Irish peoples.
Tellyn Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Wasn't it yesterday? Yesterday is the only time for more than a century that it's a day early.
Platty Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 This will sour the topic but I really hate it when people aren't Irish, and use the day as an excuse to get totally wrecked. And then when St George's day comes, no one gives a shit. Have a good day Irish peoples. Totally agree. Wasn't it yesterday? Yesterday is the only time for more than a century that it's a day early. It's the 17th.
Tellyn Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Patrick's_Day St. Patrick's Day falls within Holy Week this week, so it was on the 15th. It won't happen again until 2160.
Platty Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Well my Diary says monday 17th bank holiday for N. Ireland and R. Ireland. St Patricks day. But that is W H Smiths. :p from http://www.stpatricksday.ie/cms/home.html "St. Patrick's Festival is Ireland's official celebration for Ireland's national holiday - St. Patrick's Day. Around the globe on the 17th March,"
Fierce_LiNk Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Happy St. Patrick's Day, ye Irish Folk. Random Fact: My Great-Grandad was Irish. Another Random Fact: So are The Corrs. But you probably already knew that one.
Sparko Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Tellyn is right, I remember hearing something about Paddy's day being on a different date this year but I think everyone just decided to ignore that!
Raining_again Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Maybe it is on the 15th, but the 15th is a Saturday... Its a public holiday in this country on the 17th, as Platty rightly said. Public holidays are win. And Easter Monday/Tuesday off next week too ^___^
Rummy Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 This will sour the topic but I really hate it when people aren't Irish, and use the day as an excuse to get totally wrecked. And then when St George's day comes, no one gives a shit. Have a good day Irish peoples. If it makes things any better, I tend to get drunk in equal measure on both days :P Probably more so on St.George's though, but I never tend to remember when it is compared to St Patrick's. Anyway, Happy St Patrick's to everyone who's gonna be celebrating, I shall not be due to dissertation deadline on wednesday, so I hope everyone has fun while I'm slaving away!
RoadKill Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I tend to drink most days, for no real reason. I didn't drink on my birthday though, mainly just because I didn't actually have any beer left.
Dante Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 This will sour the topic but I really hate it when people aren't Irish, and use the day as an excuse to get totally wrecked. And then when St George's day comes, no one gives a shit. Have a good day Irish peoples. I agree with you Ramar.
Jimbob Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 This will sour the topic but I really hate it when people aren't Irish, and use the day as an excuse to get totally wrecked. And then when St George's day comes, no one gives a shit. Have a good day Irish peoples. Agreed, everyone cares about St Davids Day, St Patricks Day and St Andrews day. When it comes to the day of the English Saint, St George, i see no celebrating except with me and my mate who drink an English Beer or 3 that night anyway. Happy St Patricks day anyway to all the Irish, i will celebrate as well with a Guinness in return that you celebrate St Georges Day with an English Beer.
Coolness Bears Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Woo! Happy St. Patricks day! To celebrate i'm going to watch The Simpsons episode: Homer Vs the Eighteenth Amendment!
Guest Jordan Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I don't see why non-Irish people or atleast people who don't have Irish connections even celebrate this. Thats like... celebrating Pass over and being a devout Muslim.
conzer16 Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 Ah tis a little different than that now Jordan! The Church's holy day St. Patrick's Day was celebrated on Saturday alright, but the National Holiday was celebrated on the 17th as always. Hope ye all had a good one anyways!
