Link's Crossbow Training

This gif is so funny.

HAHA! :D Now, that's funny!

I don't really know about these news. At first, I didn't believe it. Next, I wondered what the heck Nintendo is up to. Just the name Link's Crossbow Training itself sounds so wrong. Link's? Link has never been in the title of an official Zelda game - could be a hint that the franchise is taking a turn. Crossbow? Crossbows have never actually appeared in the games - if it has to be anything, let it be a normal wooden bow. Training? Sounds a little too casual-game, Kawashima-like to me. Don't make Zelda a casual game, Nintendo. That would be shooting your own foot with a shotgun multiple times with the intentions of removing the whole foot completely.

Don't get me wrong, the casual, family-friendly games are a great marketing plot and a true success - if only I hadn't got the feeling the idea wasn't being milked to the point where small, no-fun games were being produced all the time while we are still waiting for the huge sellers. I might sound a little grumpy, but I feel Nintendo isn't living up to the "we are going to focus both on the casual and the hardcore market" part of their plan. At least not as much as I had expected.

I dont see the problem, yeah they shouldnt make Zelda casual, but this isnt a Zelda game, its a game that features Link, its going to cost £20 with the zapper and will undoubtedly be very simple but very entertaining - what is everyones problem?

It'll be £15 over here. (It's the same price as a Classic Controller and Nunchuck)

News!!! :heh: OK, but yeah it doesn't sound realistic, and the possibility of this actually being real... well I'm remaining reserved.

I'm not too bothered about it, but I hear where a majority of the people here are coming from when they're objecting against it.

I agree with Dannyboy-the-Dane, the whole training aspect of it (especially within the title) makes it sound like it's directed at the audience that doesn't really scream for Zelda titles.

Thankyou Demuwan (Off topic: btw Happy b'day ;))

But that is my stance. Regardless of what is packaged with the Zapper (I still think a Duckhunt 2 is really on the cards), if it is going to be £15 like Cube says, then it's an attractive package no matter how you really look at it... unless you don't want the Zapper no matter what.

Edit: oh and yeah Cube, I know what you mean, that is the best way to ease that crowd into becoming more serious with a wide range of computer games... which is Nintendo's goal.

Has this actually been confirmed by any of the decent gaming sites? Also, I don't like the idea of a cheap Zelda spin-off which will just really be a mini-game that ships with a bundled accessory... or maybe I do, well I'll be buying, so that's what counts!

Anyway, I reserve judgement until I find out it's true. Mii panitball online would've been better :P

A press release by Nintendo just confirmed it

NINTENDO'S NEW WII ZAPPER TARGETS FUN

First Wii Game-Play Accessory Comes Packaged with Zelda Software

REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 10, 2007 - Nintendo announced today that the Wii Zapper™ interface for the hit Wii™ home video game system will come packed with Link's Crossbow Training™. The software is based on the hugely popular Legend of Zelda® series and provides a perfect demonstration of the way the Wii Zapper could be used in other games. The Wii Zapper casing houses both the motion-sensitive Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™ controllers in a single unit for precision targeting. It goes on sale Nov. 19 at an MSRP of just $19.99.

"The Wii Zapper combines our remarkable controllers into one housing with a classic style reminiscent of arcade-style games," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Both veteran and first-time players will find it brings a whole new dimension to games where targeting is key and provides even more exciting game-play experiences."

Link's Crossbow Training drops players into a world in the style of The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess. Players assume the identity of hero Link, who progresses through a series of tests to perfect his crossbow marksmanship. Start with stationary bull's-eyes and graduate to moving targets before defending Link against all kinds of enemies.

Third-party publishers have lined up to support the Wii Zapper. EA's Medal of Honor Heroes™ 2 lets players take World War II into their hands with the Wii Zapper. The game features an all-new Wii-exclusive Arcade Mode that offers accessibility to gamers of all skill levels, a full single-player campaign and support for up to 32 players in multiplayer. Capcom's Resident Evil®: The Umbrella Chronicles reveals the back story behind the fall of the Umbrella Corporation by exploring locations from Resident Evil 0, 1, 2 and 3, as well as new never-before-seen locations like Umbrella's stronghold. One or two players use the Wii Zapper to take aim against a horde of zombies in first-person perspective. SEGA's Ghost Squad™ lets players replicate the arcade light-gun experience at home with the Wii Zapper.

Remember that Wii features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other Wii features, visit Wii.com.

So this is what Nintendo meant when they said the Zelda series was going in a new direction? I'm not very optimistic about this, at least not until I see it in action. I wonder if it will be like Umbrella Chronichles, or if you can move freely around Hyrule.

Indeed, as previously stated, Mii paintball training or something similar would have been a nicer effort but there are probably STILL a bunch of issues on people mimicking shooting their mates. (Damn America!) But I dont think Nintendo would ever put Link in a poor game and especially to launch a product they (and other devs) obviously have faith in. Bring it on. I just wonder if their will be lon-lon ranch, Hyrule field/lake etc featuring as 'souped up' locales.
