Im sitting here typing this on an Acer "laptop" that has cracking casing for the 3rd time in 18 months and a defunct battery and charging circuit! It can't leave my desk! Amazingly enough, the software works fine! Yes, Vista is obviously the pile of shite that's at the cause of my computer problems... lol, Vista causes problems to Acer laptops that are already renowned for problems. That is about as likely as the Dodo coming back to life in the next 3 minutes. I've installed the updates and everything seems ok now. My screensaver doesn't take a lifetime to go away anymore, which is nice.

How do i know if i already have these? Like from a windows update.
Slaggis Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Click on windows update in the control panel and then select "View update history".

I've had a relatively painfree update so far. But then again i dont think pangya should be able to crash my pc...
Caris Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Everytime i open Media Player on Vista Last FM allways ask's to be allowed. Is there anyway i can stop this?

Shorty Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Is it windows firewall asking you? if so try adding last fm to the exceptions tab in the firewall options.
Aimless Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Quote Everytime i open Media Player on Vista Last FM allways ask's to be allowed. Is there anyway i can stop this? Control Panel > User Accounts and Family Safety > User Accounts > Turn User Account Control on or off As far as I'm aware the only advantage to having it on is that your computer double checks things to make sure you don't contract any malware, but for those of us who don't want a silicon-based Chris Tarrant incessantly asking if it's our final answer it's far better to have off.
Marshmellow Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Umm my Vista just become unactivated or something... It says I have only 10 days left or something! Anyone else having this problem?

That Guy Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 My mom just had the same problem. Kept telling us to enter the serial key. Wouldn't accept the one on the bottom of the laptop, and eventually we could only use internet explorer.
Jimbob Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Never had that problem before. If that is the case, then i think the wrong serial number was printed on the laptop. Just saving a bit of cash ready to get more RAM for my PC, should make Vista run smoother and quicker as i am fed up of it taking forever to mearly load up.
Mr_Odwin Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 There's a worldwide outage of Windows Genuine Advantage Validation thingy. (Read all about it in Shino's link, shown just two or three posts previous to this one.)
Shorty Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Just paid attention to Windows Media Centre for the first time, it works perfectly with my TV card and gives me Freeview Up until using WMC, the only software that would play TV on my PC was the one that came packaged with the card, and it was shite - freezing and lagging every few seconds. This works great though.

Still isn't activated, what next?
Shorty Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 I'm currently downloading updates so maybe today it's sorted. Edit: sorry apparently these 4 updates were published yesterday :/
Eddage Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 A few quick questions for you guys... Firstly, my taskbar seems to have lost its transparency effect, dunno why I just turned on the computer one day (this was a hell of a long time ago by the way) and it wasn't transparent any more. Any ides on how to get this back, I've tried messing with the appearance settings but to no avail!? Secondly, I've just got a second monitor so am using a dual screen set up at the moment. How do I get different background pictures on each monitor, I've seen it done in threads like "Post your Desktop" so I'm sure it's possible! Thirdly, If I want to use a full screen program on one of the monitors is it then possible to have mouse control on the other? When I try it with Windows Media Center the mouse just locks onto the screen displaying WMC. Cheers for any help.
Sanchez Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Eddage said: A few quick questions for you guys... Cheers for any help. 1. You sure? When apps are fullscreened then transparency gets turned off on the taskbar, if you are make sure aero is turned on. I'm on XP right now so I can't tell you where exactly but just do a search for "aero" On second thoughts I remember a seperate option for transparency. Do a search for that as well. 2. You need a great program called "UltraMon" 3. This is application dependant, I don't know how to override it.
Eddage Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 1. Yeah I knew about it only being transparent when windows aren't maximised but even when they're in the window state the taskbar transparency isn't there. However window transparency (the edge of the windows) is transparent so Aero is definitely on! 2. Shall have a look for that program now, cheers Mr Sanchez.
Shorty Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Ultramon is awesome, you need the latest beta build for vista (unless they bought out a stable one recently). It's perfect for dual monitors. Just after I got done praising Windows Media Centre's TV functions they've started giving me troubles. Every time I start up and try to go to live TV, it tells me I don't have a TV card set up, and I have to go and set it up in the settings again! Irritating >.>

Shorty Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 One that came with my PC, DVB-TV 878. It's a very basic one and it's causing some trouble now. (re: post above) Well it's not masses of trouble, just that I have to set it up nearly every time I start WMC for some reason.
