dwarf Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Would be kinda ironic though, if Liverpool won it after beating Arsenal, then Chelsea, then Man Utd, while being below them all in the league. That was exactly what I was thinking.
Happenstance Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Unfortunately I cant see that happening, I was suprised we made it past Arsenal. We do still beat Chelsea in semis but Rafa really doesnt understand English teams like he does European.
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 A good victory for us yesterday. Some encouraging performances after the events that took place last week (fucking Boro, grr grr). Hmm, my team to start against Arsenal: Van Der Sar Evra Ferdinand Brown Neville Park Scholes Hargreaves Ronaldo Rooney Tevez That is possibly our strongest squad right now, however there are a few other possibilities. Is Neville fit enough to play at right back? Evra is still fit, isn't he? (he better bluddy be). If Neville isn't fit, then I'd put O'shea at right back, and keep Brown in the centre. Now, the midfield is a difficult one to get organised. We all know that Paul Scholes loves these encounters, and he is a must start, imo. However, Anderson might just pip him to start alongside Owen Hargreaves, so the two seem to function quite solidly in the centre of midfield. Park has had a couple of great performances recently, so I think he must get the nod ahead of Giggs or Nani. Although, I would be happy with any of the three starting, as I rate them all highly. Upfront seems like a no-brainer. Rooney, Tevez, with Ronaldo pushing, can't go wrong.
dwarf Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 I think Anderson plays up for the big clashes, the 3-0 romp of Arsenal was largely due to his heckling. Dare I say Fletcher did well in that Arsenal game too. There's so many options that Fergy could field any team pretty much.
Noodleman Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Any United fan contemplating dropping Carrick on his current form is utterly mental tbh. Best CM in the premiership since January.
UziT Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Any United fan contemplating dropping Carrick on his current form is utterly mental tbh. Best CM in the premiership since January. Agreed, well worth for what we paid for him! VDS Brown Rio Pique Evra Hargo Carrick Scholes Park Rooney Ronaldo 4-3-3 VS Arse please! we can switch it to 4-5-1 aswell.
dwarf Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 I think Van Der Sar has got gradually worse, I don't think he's the goally he was. Ben Foster has been superd for the couple of United performances he has put in as well as having done brilliantly on loan to Watford. Thomas isn't bad either.
Fierce_LiNk Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Any United fan contemplating dropping Carrick on his current form is utterly mental tbh. Best CM in the premiership since January. I really rate him as a player, but I think that Hargreaves might be the more prefered option in this situation. I'd use Hargreaves as a way to stop Arsenal's passing game from flowing, as he can break up the play. Van Der Sar is still a top keeper, but maybe it's just age kicking in? I don't feel safe with Kuszczak in goal, but again maybe that'll change with experience. Anyway, as far as the midfield partnership goes, I'd be happy with Scholes + Carrick, Scholes + Hargreaves or Hargreaves + Anderson in the middle. We've got a fairly flexible squad and players can come in and out and do the job to a great standard. That's why we are where we are.
Happenstance Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Cant believe the crap going on at Liverpool at the moment. Hicks calling for Parry to be fired because he thinks hes siding with Gillett. Its just becoming more and more petty.

Daft Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 This is why I hate the newspapers, From The Guardian: “Had Hilario, on for the injured Carlo Cudicini, not smuggled the substitute Ugur Boral’s volley past his post, as Chelsea anxieties were at their height or, moments later, beaten away Kazim Kazim’s rasping drive from distance, it might have been Fenerbahce eyeing a semi-final date with Liverpool. Grant resolutely stuck with five men in his midfield in the second-half and when he withdrew Joe Cole the home crowd howled.” Uuuuurmm....No we didn't. Unless I went selectively completely deaf standing in the dead centre of the Matthew Harding stand that just didn't happen. I just can't be bothered newspapers anymore.

Van Der Sar is getting abit old now but Kuszczak can't live up to his standards imo. I've always liked Carrick. He's a great kicker of the ball. He weights his passes along the ground nicely so they get to the player he's passing to. His over the top kicks nearly always go to the man. I just want to see him take a free kick or two. Hargreaves had a go and scored, it can't always be Ronalda trying his thing. Carrick and Anderson is a good midfield, Carrick sits back and lets Anderson run forward. I just fin Carrick to be stronger than the two (him and Hargreaves). That's the problem of having a big squad, how to choose someone when they're in brilliant form.
tapedeck Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Cant believe Man City beat us (Sunderland) today. Both teams were abysmal (Man City were just awful) with a sloppy game being only slightly dominated by Sunderland. Man City had two/three good chances the whole game, they were given one of the worst penalty decisions I've seen in a hell of a long time (I thought Nosworthy was gonna cry. I felt so sorry for him. He didn't do anything.) Sunderland then equalised with a flying boot from Whitehead from a great Reid cross - Easily the best move of the game. Then Vassel received the ball from 2 deflected tackles on the edge of the box, scuffed the floor and somehow the ball rolled in past a stranded Gordon. Worst game I've seen in a long, long time. With displays like today it's no suprise we are teetering on relegation. And with luck like that, it's no wonder Sven is seen as a tactical genius!

I'm pretty sure you'll stay up anyway, the last few games have really helped points wise. The only thing I'm worrying about right now is the transfer period in the summer. Lets face it, bar 2/3 players Keane hasn't exactly bought well and I hope he uses his money wisely :/ Sunderland could definitely be a top 10 team with a few decent purchases I'd say.
Roostophe Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 6-0 what a great result Yes it certainly was. -EDIT- Watching MotD. Holy sausage, Petrov's goal was brilliant.
kyletherobot Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Excellent result for us today. 2-1 at Preston, who have a very impressive home record this season. We scored directly from a free kick, scored a penalty and also socred comical own goal too so it was a pretty entertaining match. We have 4 games left now and 3 of them are at Oakwell, so, without trying to tempt fate, we should be safe. Took ages to get to Preston on the train though, never realised it was so far from Sheffield.
the_villa Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Yes it certainly was. -EDIT- Watching MotD. Holy sausage, Petrov's goal was brilliant. that was my fav goal out of the 6
Chuck Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I love Kenywe Jones though! Well as soon as Sunderland get relegated again, hes gone
dwarf Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Thankyou to the MU. Scrounged a win. I want to marry Hargreaves.
darksnowman Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 United were very lucky! I mean how did Rio NOT score an o.g?! It should have been 2-0 to Arsenal, but dirty United got a penalty then a free kick and despatched them both. Arsenal were all over them- Clichy was class. Aaand, what about Liverpool eh? There was next to no atmosphere at Anfield but we got the win. Pity about Rovers having to get a goal, but 3-1 is still fine by me... even Voronin tapped one in.
Happenstance Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 Shame Riise was on his right side or I think he would have taken it himself, be nice for him to score some again
