The second goal was, I feel, a necessity.. as was not conceding an away goal..

If we can get a goal out in Italy, things will be looking fantastic.. but as it is, it's gonna be tense out there :heh:

Great result.

I was raging that Gerrard was having a shot but elated that it went in. It was a wick goal- everyone seemed to watch it go in, but it was one of them ones that if a defender had touched it then it coulda been an own goal... and the keeper had to wait til it trundled past everyone before he dived, just incase.

Glad Dirk scored... its time he was played as a striker instead of a winger though.

The sending off? Well, two very fortunate yellow cards. I won't deny that, but I'm pleased enough at how it turned out. I feel it woulda been a great match anyway if it was 11 v 11, maybe even more open if Inter had been attacking a bit then we coulda countered to great effect.

What was Pennant brought on for? Why was he even on the bench? Or hold on, why is he at the club? No wait, why is he not in prison...?

Yeh good result for Liverpool...would not mind the same result tonight against AC Milan!

I watched the Liverpool game last night, and I am not convinced by their performance. So many long balls directed towards the head of Crouch, crosses coming in and failing to reach any Liverpool player. It was really frustrating to watch as a neutral. Going forward, the team do not look confident at all. Thats just my point of view...in the end you go home with a 2-0 win, so all is good I guess, especially considering recent results.

Anyway, the Gooners are up against AC Milan...cannot wait for this game! I'm hoping we can get the same result as the Scousers but its not gonna be easy. All in all, I'm going for a 1-0 win for the Arsenal.

All I hope is that we don't cock it up, and are still in the tie for when I go to the San Siro. Just got off the phone to the club actually, needed to confirm the birthdates of our travelling party because Milan police are tightening up (apparently).

A clean sheet will do just fine.

Gotta remember that AC Milan are 5th in Serie A and not playing brilliant football at this moment in time Ramar... If Arsenal play their full strength side and get that fluid attacking football going, they should win over the two legs imo.

You gotta remember AC beating United last season was a whole different ball game, United had all of their best defenders injured and Vidic was playing completely unfit (Evra, Neville, Rio), not to mention the injuries in midfield - a full strength United side would of done them. Arsenal have pretty much their best defence available. The fact a struggling Liverpool comfortably beat Inter last night says it all -

Premiership >>>> Italian League

If Arsenal are on their game then of course they have a very good chance- they could beat anyone when at their best, but AC Milan are like Liverpool these days. They have badly underperformed in Serie A leaving the Champions League win of last year and World Club Cup Championship of this winter to paper over the cracks for them. They will be up for this one as they are outta the race for the Scudetto so they will want to beat Arsenal at all costs.

Over two legs I think AC Milan can do it, so its imperative, imo, that the Gunners bang in a few tonight and don't concede an away goal so as to have the best possible chance. Milan will fancy their chances at the San Siro and shouldn't be underestimated.

It would be foolish to underestimate a team with the likes of Kaka and Gattuso, not to mention a true legend in Maldini. They are very much a cup team, like darksnowman says, they're like Liverpool and always seem to raise their game in Europe.

Celtic v Barcalona tonight. Can't wait. We always win at home, it's like a tradition, and then collapse away from home. I can see us getting a 1-0 or a 2-1 win, then losing 2/3-0 at the Nou Camp. We definately have a chance though.

Happy with 1-1 and getting the away goal but should have finished it off really was all over Lyon.

Totally dominated that game. There was hardly any end product though.

A draw is good though, specially an away goal.

It's not really glory hunting, people choose a top team as they get more exposure and people like reading about their team. When you pick up a paper it's either Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal or Liverpool - no wonder a lot of casual supporters pick one of them.

It's still picking them because they're big teams (Even if it's usually qualified with an excuse like "I like the way they play", "My mum's from Manchester." or whatever). I pity glory seekers to be honest. Someone made a great post on a footy message board about it today, referring to the big teams in this country, Real Madrid, Bayern etc as "the prostitutes of football"

Supporting these teams, as glory seekers in their respective countries do, must be akin to seeking fulfilment from the services of a paid escort and never feeling the happiness or pain and the ups and downs of a genuine relationship.

Those who "choose" these teams know they'll always look good, deliver the goods and provide instant satisfaction, never having to suffer the anguish and tribulations of a long term marriage to a real football team.

Damn it, Celtic were so close to a win last night :( .

No chance of us scoring two goals away, most I could see us holding out for is a draw tbh.

Oh well, still proud that we made as far as we did, didn't really expect us to get past Barcelona anyway.

I see that apparently Fergie was "enjoying a joke with Houllier and Benzema after the game." What an old scum, Benzema to United then.

Pity United got that goal, a 1-0 win for Lyon wouldn't have been much but it would've been something to take to Old Trafford.

Yeah, but it was nigh on impossible getting anywhere near the Lyon goal, I hate football like that, 9 or 10 Lyon players in the box defending, makes it difficult. I think Lyon were lucky to go away with a draw, I doubt they'll be as lucky at Old Trafford.

As for Arsenal, good that they didn't concede any goals, but they've got an uphill struggle in the away leg, the San Siro is a notoriously hard place for away teams.

Yeah, AC Milans home form has been absolute rubbish this season domestically but things are different when it comes to the Champions League. If Arsenal can get the first goal then you never know... but then you have to factor in that despite the Gunners getting to the final the other year, they are still pretty much noobs in terms of European competition.

Judging by the Champions League results this week you'd think Liverpool was the strongest English side, lol.

We'll stop polishing our European Fairs Cup and our European Cup Winners Cup then.

Although I recognise we've not won the Champions League, over the years we've had our fair share of European matches.
