Guest Jordan Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Personally, i'm not one... but it looks like the BBC might not be showing it for much longer: The BBC has pulled out of a bidding war for the long-running Australian daytime soap Neighbours. The show has screened twice a day on BBC One since 1986, but the BBC has withdrawn its latest offer after the latest contract came up for renewal. BBC One controller Peter Fincham said he has been asked to pay "roughly three times" what the BBC had been paying - equating to £300m over eight years. "We'd love to have kept it but not at any price," he told BBC News 24. Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6669769.stm
Fields Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Yes, fantastic! I fucking hate Neighbours and I'm convinced that the world would be a better place without it . Although of course it will just end up on ITV or Five Oh, and *cough* Official Neighbours thread *cough* :p

rokhed00 Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 there is a god now it's home and aways turn to fuck off.. If there was a god Neighbours would be on every channel for at least 3 hours a day.
Shorty Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 You mean the online petitions and "save-neighbours!" facebook groups didn't save it? What a surprise!
Guest Jordan Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Its confirmed its now going to be on Channel 5. Source: Digitalspy.com
mcj metroid Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 What I will say for neighbours is it's the very best of a bad bunch. It's ten times better than home and away and better than any english soap either(and Irish lol at fair city and it's horrible acting) Its confirmed its now going to be on Channel 5.Source: Digitalspy.com Execellent that means of course most irish people won't be able to watch it..
Platty Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Until they bring back Golden Skins. Damn right brother!
Dante Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 How come Ch5 have more money to pay for Neighbours than BBC?
Platty Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 How come Ch5 have more money to pay for Neighbours than BBC? BBC have supposidly better things to spend our TV licence money on.. Whereas channel 5 probably rake it in from advertisements so can spend silly amounts on programs that they think will get them viewers. Just go back to cheap late night soft core porn channel 5, it's all you was good at
gaggle64 Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Channel 5 probably blew their entire budget for the next few years just on Neighbours, which may explain the quality of most, if not all of the rest of their programming. Been saving up for it clearly.
rokhed00 Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 BBC have supposidly better things to spend our TV licence money on.. No, they don't.
Eddage Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 No, they don't. Exactly, all they have now is Top Gear!
darksnowman Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Ive really lost track of Neighbours anyway, they're are too many weirdo's in it now. It was at its peak when the Martin's family was in it and when the Kennedy's family was in it too. The characters in it these days just arent as good... actually, I used to love watching Home and Away and then Neighbours, that was great combo of TV after watching CBBC/CITV after school. Still sad to see it go, its been there like FOREVER!
flameboy Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Well Neighbours isn't great at the moment, there has been too fast a turn over of characters...like Frazer then him going but leaving his bro, then Will came he left, so his brother appeared and started going out with his ex...Camille and now they are running a veg company...who cares...and god the robinsons piss me off...hollyoaks is much better at the moment imo..so Five can have it... apparently though Neighbours is doing crap in Aus...so we are likely to see even more new characters appear...
Rummy Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Tis a sad news to hear, Neighbours at 17.35 finished at 17.58 was a big part of my growing up as it was on right after the kid's shows we watched and that, and we'd be eating just around that time too. I haven't properly watched neighbours for a while, I kind of went off it after it was changing so much with all the crazy new families and story lines. Even so, it's a dent to the BBC in my opinion, they're just gradually getting shitter.
flameboy Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 To be fair though who can blame the BBC for not wanting to spend 300 million on this, that could make a lot of homegrown shows...

Frazer hasn't left, he was in it the other day. It's only a matter of time before the licence fee is scrapped and the BBC has to resort to good TV for its income. To be fair though who can blame the BBC for not wanting to spend 300 million on this, that could make a lot of homegrown shows... 99.9% of the BBCs homegrown shows are complete shit.
