chairdriver Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 You'll be sorry when you realise I was right about Glass being the best.
Paj! Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 You'll be sorry when you realise I was right about Glass being the best. I still get the whiff that you like it best because you don't know the other ones as well yet.
Cube Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I wasn't keen when I first heard it, but now I love it.
The Bard Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Baroness are the definition of heavy metal to me right now, dear god, can't stop listening to the Red Album, the incomprehensible wails, pounding riffs and elaborate harmonised leads put me in such a headbanging, yet airy mood. One of my favourite bands to get high to. Other shit I've been listening to: High on Fire, Bloodbath, being the philistine that I am only just got introduced to Enter The Wutang, and sebastiAn.
Paj! Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I ordered Dark Was The Night, the album full of original songs by proper indie artists, but some big names like Cat Power, Fesit, Antony and Sufjan Stevens. All the proceeds go to Red Hot, an AIDS thingie. It's really a beautiful package, I'm glad I bought the physical release, they really put effort into it, and all the money goes to a worthy cause.
Ashley Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Hmm looks interesting. Keep meaning to check out more American Indie as I do quite like it. Plus it seems to have an unreleased Spoon song on it. Tempting.
Paj! Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Just started listening now, but it's lovely. Plus charity etc.
Daft Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Justice have done a U2 remix. Euurgh... Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero (MSTRKRFT Remix) I'm liking this.
Cube Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Justice have done a U2 remix. Wow...I never expected someone to be able to make "Get On Your Boots" sound good.
Daft Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Wow...I never expected someone to be able to make "Get On Your Boots" sound good. Yeah, I gave the original a listen this morning...and well, this is vastly superior. Sadly the sound of Bono's voice kills it dead for me.
chairdriver Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I love how its impossible to rank PJ Harvey's albums in order of greatness. Every time I try, I think "No way does that deserve to be at the bottom of the list - it's brilliant!". My attempt to list her albums: Rid Of Me Is This Desire? Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea To Bring You My Love White Chalk Dry Uh Huh Her Even then, Uh Huh Her and Dry are both great albums.

Yeah, there's no album that you can just label as "the bottom one". Very few artists have that. Even if you count her 2 albums with John Parish, they're both really good!
Coolness Bears Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Bat for Lashes new album is godly. It shall be on loop for the rest of the day!
Slaggis Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) I'm really liking The All American Rejects lately. I've also had a soft spot for their previous album "Move Along", and so far I'm liking their new one. I absolutely love "Gives You Hell"...though not as much as their previous songs like "Move Along" and "It Ends Tonight". I just love the guys voice so much (on tracks like It Ends Tonight), and he sounds exactly the same live, it's great. Some of the comments on the video of him on Ellen performing it (wearing salmon pink skinnies) are hilarious. "I'm guessing the gay pill" or "When did he become a fag". C-razy. -- I was giving Jason Mraz's album a listen, and I felt so mellow. I love "I'm Yours", and there's some amazingly relaxing songs on there. Edited April 6, 2009 by Slaggis
Paj! Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Not interested in All-American Rejects. Just another of those bands that do rock-lite with clean mixing and an ok hook. I remember thinking 'Dirty Little Secret' was good when it first came out, then it was overplayed and I hated it. Hated that song you posted too. I've not heard the best about Jason Mraz, but I dunno. ----- Bat for Lashes new album is godly. It shall be on loop for the rest of the day! Yeah it's brilliant. The more I listen, the more it sounds like Fur & Gold. At first I thought there was a drastic change (dunno why), but it sounds much more Bat For Lashes than I originally heard. Sleep Alone and Pearl's Dream ftw.
Roostophe Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 ^ I can just about tolerate that AAR song. All their other songs are much better than that, though. ------------------------- Last night I got bored, and compiled two lists. Jeff Buckley - Grace KoRn - KoRn System of a Down - System of a Down Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters Papa Roach - Infest Disturbed - The Sickness Nirvana - Bleach Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not Arcade Fire - Funeral Rie fu - Rie fu Jeff Buckley - Mojo Pin KoRn - Blind System of a Down - Suite-Pee Foo Fighters - This is a Call Papa Roach - Infest Disturbed - The Sickness Nirvana - Blew Arctic Monkeys - The View From The Afternoon Arcade Fire - Neighbourhood #1 (Tunnels) Rie fu - Waratte, Megumi no Moto he (Laughing, to the Origin of Grace) Radiohead - You The Strokes - Is This It? Paramore - For a Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic We Are Scientist - Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt Queens of the Stone Age - Regular John All That Remains - This Calling Kings of Leon - Red Morning Light Weezer - My Name Is Jonas Tenacious D - Kielbasa The Lonely Island - Who Said We're Wack? Maybe I ought to try not getting bored in future.
Jon Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 That AAR song reeks of commercialism, nothing like their usual stuff. The song after that on the album is awesome (Mona Lisa (When the world comes down). Not interested in All-American Rejects. Just another of those bands that do rock-lite with clean mixing and an ok hook. I remember thinking 'Dirty Little Secret' was good when it first came out, then it was overplayed and I hated it. Hated that song you posted too. I've not heard the best about Jason Mraz, but I dunno Not sure what AAR stuff you've been listening to But it ain't exactly Rock. Bar a couple of heavier songs like Dirty Little Secret and Move Along it's mostly all melodic and acoustic, especially the new stuff. If you're trying Jason Mraz, give the earlier stuff a listen (like Remedy), It's far superior to the new album.

Mine would be: Uh Huh Her White Chalk Dry Is This Desire? Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea To Bring You My Love Rid Of Me Something like that, it's quite hard :/ lol
Molly Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Justice have done a U2 remix. Euurgh... Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero (MSTRKRFT Remix) I'm liking this. It's a bit trancey for me, I like Zero though
Paj! Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I won't lie, that mix did nothing for me. The original is much better.
The Bard Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Well, they both kinda suck. If you want an awesome remix, get the Ratatat remix of Party and Bullshit by Biggie Smalls. Of course, that was a fucking ace song to begin with sooo...
Slaggis Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 That AAR song reeks of commercialism, nothing like their usual stuff. The song after that on the album is awesome (Mona Lisa (When the world comes down). Agreed, I love that song. That, and "Fallin' Apart" are probably my favourites on the album.
Ganepark32 Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 @ Villan - On your list of your favourite 20 No. 1 tracks on a debut album, For A Pessimist, I'm Pretty Optimistic isn't on Paramore's debut album, All We Know Is Falling, but instead on their sophomore effort, Riot!. Still, it's a better song than the opener to AWKIF.
