And Dream Of Sheep

STUNNING song. Always loved it superficially, but only really found recently that it's about a person who has been in a storm, and is lost at see, holding onto barely nothing to stay afloat. They're desperately trying to stay awake, in case they fall asleep and drown.

Daft, I've been listening to your Spotify playlist, and I love the Yelle Remix! I had a few of her songs already, but I got a little bored of them quickly. Really loving the Ce Jeu Tepr Mix, keeps my french going as well lol.

I've been listening a lot to 'Daniel' by Bat For Lashes, and I would be enjoying it immensely if she didn't keep interjecting with 'Daniel' during the chorus.

Currently listening to Olivier Messiaen's "Quartet For The End Of Time", one of the greatest pieces of music ever written in a Nazi Prisoner of War camp.

I don't think it would hang together as well if there wasn't the "Daniel" between each line in the chorus. There would just be an empty bar which would make it more jarring to hear.

The DAFT SPOTIFY CHALLENGE Numero Uno!

Bang.jpg?t=1239651884

Right, I'm in wallowy mood. And so! I've made a playlist for me to wallow in. Give it a listen.

I'd like to see what everyone else would add. It's a collaborative playlist so add!! :D

Just one rule. No Lady Gaga. Actually, no recent pop music AT ALL. 5 years + please (This only applies to pop, other new stuff is wickedo).

EDIT: One more rule, yeah I'm a bit of a dictator, try and keep it a maximum of two songs per artist. Three if you really have to. This stops me dumping PJ Harvey's White Chalk album as it is in there. :heh:

EDIT!!2! Also, please post what you added! It would be nice to know. I feel like I should make this into a thread of it's own...but I don't really want it in the NE Playground....Hmmm...

Remember, think sad. :(

...just a note, my next Spotify challenge will be happier.

Wow, amazing timing. I haven't been in this thread for a fair bit now and just popped in to post the most amazing song in the world. Yeah it's a great remix although I never really listened to the original for very long, I really like Tepr and that's how I found it.

There's a singer called Michachu? OUTRAGE! I named my friend that two years ago. I demand liberties.

Daft; (sorry to hear you're feeling wallowey) I immediately thought of Neko Case's 'Hold On, Hold On' (in fact if im listening to that album there's a good chance I'm in a mood) but not on there :/ Thinking maybe The Perishers ' Weekends' but its apparently Sweedish indie-rock but dunno....I'll think about it.

Actually hold on, The Format. Duh. On Your Porch or A Save Situation...urgh choices. One will pop up. It shall be me! Wait where does 'indie-pop' come in? (although they both don't sound it as they're wallowey)...plus the album is six years old. :p

Add as many as you want as long as they fit the playlist. Just not more than two of any single artist. Unless there are exceptional circumstances.

I added Gold Dust by Tori Amos.

I had a feeling that was you. :heh:

I'll give it a listen after dinner.

Just in case anyone misses my post at the bottom of the last page,

I follow the 'one song by each artist in a playlist' rule anywho.

Also check out my previous edit.

Just listened to Alive 1997 again. Feels like such an achievement in its own way.

Looked at my last.fm the other day and in the prior 7 days I had listened to 130 The Format songs. That's just under 20 a day which suprised even me. I seem to be having a revival in the hype for fun.'s album.

Sorry to add more Tori Amos (A Sorta Fairytale) but it's one of her more accessible, and it immediately entered my head when I thought of mope. I'll think properly about some more from other artists, promise!

EDIT: Ok, I added Black Cat by Ladytron. It always makes me think of being really lethargic and miserable yet anxious as well. Despite all that I love the song to bits.

I added Corporate Cannibal by Grace Jones. She's always pretty sinister.

ASF? Mope? :wtf:

I was about to add stuff from THE mope album, Boys For Pele. I mean..ASF?! (I love it, but totally innapropriate)

I want to add Marianne. :(

Well I see your point when you go indepth into the song, but superficially it is really mopey. Sort of lamenting that the day she spent during that particular song is over. Also, I'd pin BFP as more female wrath and controlled fury than moping. Sure it's got Marianne and the like, but you're telling me Professional Widow, Blood Roses and Caught A Lite Sneeze are mopey? They're fiery with intent to cause harm to those on the barrel end!

EDIT:

Don't worry, I just deleted A Sorta Fairytale.

Lol.

Sorry, I just had the urge. Feel free to re-add it.

Yeah, next time, just don't.

I was going to add Sea Of Love by Cat Power, but it's more lovely than mopey.

A Woman A Man Walked By is hardly mopey...

I've vowed to not go about Tori Amos much anymore, but I don't think she has many mopey songs. I admit Scarlet's Walk is pretty serence as an album, but there's more appropriate ones than A Sorta Fairytale. I mean...Strange. Crazy ? Carbon even. That's depressing.

BFP comes from a place that is the most mopey she's been. Hey Jupiter actually defines mope, but I'm not in love with it atm, so I won't put it in (also both her spaces are taken up ;) ).

I also added Broken English by Marianne Faithful.

I was fooled. It's gone now anyway.

I added Tie Me Up With Jackets by Fight Like Apes. It's both mopey and "Fuck you, I'm so bored of caring about life anymore!".

Well like I said, it was the one that immediately entered my head.
