It's probably because the Opera browser "behaves" like a Mac browser. After all, the Wii's design was inspired by Apple.

You know those images that tell you what your IP, Browser, and OS are when you load them? Try opening one on the Wii and tell me what you get.

Guh? I don't understand at all. But I like the way you talk.

The picture I posted was a website page being viewed using the Opera Browser. Now go digest that giant wall of text again.

Don't be stupid, it's just based on the platform that Apple happened to use until last year.

PPC is the type of processor (made by IBM) which were previously used in Macs- Opera probably has the old source code lying about the office that the PPC browser was based on.

So wouldn't it be easy to use the PPC Opera source code based around the UNIX kernel that OS X is built upon? Hells yeah.

As this is a beta, they've just slapped a GUI over the top of it- it is probably sending out code to web crawlers that this browser is running on a Mac.

Try one of those browser/IP lookup scanner things and it will give you more detailed information on browser/model.

Or more likely that website didn't support the browser, so therefore it thinks its a Mac.

I bet whatever site it is will work fine on a Mac with Firefox or any browser other than Safari (unless its windowsupdate.com).

You could have added a link to the page you lazy bum.

I don't have it.

Yeah, I just found out. The processor is the same one used in the G5 models.

I heard the Xbox is a PC.

Xbox is more like a Mac than a PC, tho. (hence why Microsoft used Apple machines to simulate the 360's power at one E3 event).

The wii plays games, therefore, not a mac. QED

Haha, nice one and an undefiable logic.

Quod Erat Demonstrandum indeed.

But on a serious note as someone pointed out already it's most likely that Opera uses a modified code of the Mac Version after all both are PowerPC architecture and that tricked that website into believing it's a mac.

Wii actually uses a modified G3 ('Gekko' enhanced to 'Hollywood') processor, not a G5. A G5 would make it possible for the Wii to run HD, but would also need more fans and so on.. That's a little why a computer costs €1000 and a game console a quarter of that. Because it's a stripped-down computer. The next generation will be stuck, that's for sure. Because although Nintendo still can upgrade to HD, the others don't have a nxt nstandard. ultra HD is so real it sickens people when watching it, so, well, there's not much more to do.

Yes, the Wii uses a processor previously only seen in macs. So it's probably using the engine from Opera on Mac and can be interpreted for a mac. And to help this discussion ending in an Apple vs. Windows topic: Go Apple!

That's why Nintendo is inspired by Apple. Because they are bloody good.

I thought the Wii was a gamecube in disguise?

And the GameCube is an ancient mac is disguise. The GameCube uses a modified G3 processor codenamed 'Gekko'. The Wii uses a modified Gekko processor called 'Broadway'.

Its not particularly new, but fairly incredible on power consumption.
