Considering that they're struggling to keep the Wii U on store shelves over here, the last thing NOE would want to do right now is piss off the retailers (Wii Fit U's early digital release makes sense because retailers get to make money off of the sales of the Activity Meters).
-
It's just a one off. Otherwise it just works flawlessly as you'd expect. The bottom screen Panel layouts are also stored individually for each version and are automatically assigned to your current layout whenever you transfer your data over (obviously you don't need that D-pad on the Gamepad for camera control, so you can replace it with something else on Wii U and it wont mess up your bottom screen configuration when you're playing the 3DS version! ) Unfortunately though, you do have to transfer all 3 save files over at once (since it just copies the entire save file over). There's no way to use it to share your copies of the game with someone else.

General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

I'd call that great taste myself -
:p Mind you though, you never know with them

"Winter" is still the only date we have. Looking forward to this one. FF10 is not exactly my favourite of the series, but I do like the gameplay - the battle system in particular is actually one of the best in the series! Lets just hope that they haven't tried to shoehorn Lightning into this or make any stupid changes to the gameplay, cause otherwise it looks like a fantastic HD Remaster job!
-
Remember what I was telling you in that Zelda thread about how HD Remasters are often handled really badly? This is a perennial example Be grateful for the ones that really do a good job, cause those are pretty rare. The sooner GCN Virtual Console games come along (re-rendering games in high res like the N64 VC on Wii) the better!
-
No it didn't, sorry I misremembered. Was thinking of a different game (Probably one of the Bomberman Land games, I know it happened there). TOS PS2 just got its framerate cut in half from the GCN version (from 60FPS down to 30FPS), but the visuals were identical IIRC. But yeah, it seems that almost all the shading is gone in the HD version; as is the characteristic DOF filter and the chunky outlines. This is a botch job for sure. Lets just hope that it at least runs at 60FPS like the GCN version and not 30FPS like the PS2 one! I'd like to at least be able to play the PS2 version's extra content at a decent framerate!

Oh wow! You're right! I can't believe I didn't even notice! Edit: Actually it doesn't seem like it's completely gone, it seems to be somewhat visible in this pic of Collette (just REALLY toned down, to the point where it's almost not there). But the other shots seem to look completely flat! Something is seriously fucked up with the rendering here! So they've removed the cel-shading, the depth of field filter and have made the outlines thinner (which doesn't exactly look flattering on these chunky models...) It looks terrible, even the Dolphin emulator does a better job than this (and that doesn't even render the DOF correctly!)
-
Original voices and localisation! YEAH!!! That being said... ...the game's visuals REALLY suffer without that DOF filter... (here's a few examples below, in case you don't remember) ...In fact I think it might actually look worse than the original GCN one. The textures were clearly designed around the soft look that the game original aimed for; sure it might have been overdone somewhat, but removing it all together just makes the game look utterly terrible (those textures are just... BLEHGH! ). It feels so shoddily done! In retrospect, it really highlights how much TOS 2 improved on the visuals of TOS 1. At least it has the extra PS2 content. That's about the only thing it has going for me here (don't care about TOS 2)

Masuda clarifies why the overworld is 2D only... http://m.digitalspy.co.uk/gaming/news/a516570/pokemon-x-and-y-lack-3d-effect-in-overworld-for-better-visuals.html Surprise surprise! It WAS for technical reasons (as I suspected before), but he later makes a good point... That's true! I never really considered that. The 3DS' use of S3D is unique in that you can just turn it on and off or adjust it on the fly for artistic reasons thanks to its glassesless nature (and the fact that the depth is user adjustable at any time). I'm sure that they probably wanted to have S3D on at all times and found it too difficult to do, but during development, realised that it had the nice knock-on effect of making the battle scenes more exciting and impactful (because you suddenly see it switch to S3D and you're like WOAH!). It's much like that moment when you get to Skyarrow Bridge in PKMN B&W. The camera generally remains static throughout most of the game, but when you get to that point and you suddenly see it start to swerve and move about, it really takes you by surprise, making that scene much more memorable as a result (the same applies to the couple of full 3D cutscenes involving Zekrom and Reshiram. Yeah sure they could've done many more, but the fact that it's mostly sprites throughout the game and then suddenly BAM! full 3D models! makes it much more impactful!)

His shares (and his fortune) are going to his 3 kids.

Good thing that Nintendo means "leave luck to heaven". Now they've got someone on the inside! He'll still be pulling the strings from up above, like the true master puppeteer he is. Just you watch Yeah, they had better. I will not be happy if Iwata and crew don't have something prepared in tribute! They owe everything to him, so I would hope that they have something ready to celebrate his legacy!
-
Yeah, it includes all of the games and activities from the past two titles. It's basically Wii Fit ++
-
He is the reason why Nintendo (and the industry as a whole!) stands here today. A true legend, a no nonsense battle hardened businessman who knew how to read the market and how to get things done. May his empire continue on forever as his eternal legacy!

Yeah, but its much more durable than what you would find in USB memory sticks. They're typically the cheapest and poorest quality types of flash memory you can get (which is why they're cheap!), so they're not really well suited to long term storage. They'll do for the short term though, but I would recommend getting a HDD eventually. They're dirt cheap anyway!
-
USB sticks do work, but they don't recommend it as they're not designed for constant Read/Write cycles like external HDDs are. They're fine for the short term, but I wouldn't want to keep save files on there for too long as they will eventually get damaged from the constant Read/Write access (that kind of flash memory has a limit on how many times it can be rewritten).

Yup! Wanted to play a proper version (Screw you Maverick Hunter X!) of this on a handheld screen for years! Gonna feel so goooooooodddd
-
Yup! So true. I became addicted to that ball balancing one and that floating bubble one (total bastard of a game that one is! Fucking tough as nails!). The chicken suit game is also a good laugh (it wasn't until Pilotwings SNES came out on the VC did I realise that it was actually a semi-remake of one of its bonus stages!)

Where the bloody hell is our Pikmin 3 Iwata Asks!? It's the only major 1st party game in the last 7 years to not get one!

Whoops! Sorry, made a cockup of that URL. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-HDWC120EK3J1-Stor-E-Canvio-Desktop/dp/B009HXWTGO/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1379545929&sr=1-1&keywords=HDWC120EK3J1 There you go

I'm using this one right now. Works perfectly, it's silent and very compact - perfect for storing out of sight (or you could just stick it next to the Wii U, it looks really quite nice next to it actually!)
-
November 1st is really creepily good timing for me! I only just got back into playing Wii Fit Plus over the last month (lost around 13 kilos!), so this comes at the perfect time for me! I am SO in for that download version with the Activity Meter! Stupidly good bargain! (and if the mini games are just as fun as the last two, they'll be worth the price of entry alone )
-
Personally I like the fact that the Swift Sail isn't handed to you on a platter. The fact that it's hidden away as a secret only adds to the sense of discovery within the game itself.
-
I really like the visual upgrade they've given the games. Just a nice bit of extra sheen, with high res textures, but keeping the same very clean and simple style Yeah, it should've been there alongside Nintendo Land. Shame that all 5 games aren't gonna be ready in time for launch either. I would hope that they'd get the missing games out before Xmas (At least Golf, considering that it already has fully functioning Motionplus controls that don't need to be modified for WSC and the net code can be largely recycled from Mario Golf World Tour if need be), but I'm doubtful. Nintendo should really pre install it onto every Wii U manufactured after its release date though. Give people no excuses not to try it!
