  1. Love seeing everyone eating crow on this now
  2. Fuck me, just looking at it makes me feel happy! Sooooo glad to see it following in the same style as Return to Dreamland and I'm really happy to see it really making great use of S3D (suck on THAT 2DS! ) Need this,.. NOW!
  3. Yeah, this takes the sting out of the DKCTF delay. Back when DKCTF and SLW were first announced in that E3 Direct video, I didn't have much faith in this game. Now though? Yeah, I think this may be good substitute
  4. KIRBY 3DS AT LONG FUCKING LAST CANT FUCKING WAIT!!! (Hooray for it following in the same style as the OMG AMAZING Kirby's Return to Dreamland as well! ) As for DKCTF, the delay hurts big time, but you have to respect a publisher/developer that would delay such an important title (at a time where they're desperate to jump start console sales) for the sake of pure quality.
  5. Oh hey! Another small little thing that someone found! It now gives you more detailed info about things you're downloading (great! That indicator that was there before was totally useless!) Now just gotta hope that they've improved the time it takes to install something...
  6. Don't know if it did that before, but either way, Happy Birthday! : peace:
  7. Alright guys! Now that we've all gotten the Wii U system update out of (onto?) our systems, it's time to get our bodies ready for Direct Megatons! Just mirror my movements...
  8. Yeah, overall it's a nice update. Some much needed fixes (Proper DPL2 support for Wii games, proper 2 channel audio support - allowing DPL2 matrixing for quasi surround sound, dual HDMI & Phono sound output), some nice WTF surprises (Wii Off TV play, eShop overhaul, Miiverse updates, multi NNID device support, auto downloads of demos & free software, Wii Chat updates) and a nice speed boost. The continued lack of folder support is disappointing (and weird), as is the lack of cross game voice & text chat, but overall it's a pretty good update.
  9. It is quicker than before, just not as big a jump as the last update. I see no reason why it can't be reduced further in the future either...
  10. Hey @RedShell I gave it a go... It doesn't seem to downsample the 5.1 LPCM into a matrixed DPL2 mix, but instead just ouputs 2 channel stereo. So while it won't net you 5 channel DPL2 sound, you can at least use DPL2 to fake 5 channel sound now (as it allows you to send video over HDMI separately from the audio now ) Also, interestingly enough, you can also choose to have it output sound over both HDMI AND 2 channel analog at the same time now. I could think of some fun uses for that... BTW, I've also noticed that the Wii U web browser seems to have a tough time of keeping multiple tabs open now. Before I was usually able to keep all 6 open without problems most of the time, now I'm lucky to keep 2 or 3 open at once... I wonder if they reduced the amount of RAM that the browser can address (giving some more memory back to the games themselves). Edit: Ahh. I've heard some impressions on GAF about some VC games looking a bit blurry, so it probably is the vWii that's doing the anamorphic squashing. A pity, because that means that the image quality gets reduced as a result (which is the reason why I was happy that they didn't force 4x3 when running in 16x9 mode originally in the first place ) So Wii U VC games will look sharper and clearer on the Gamepad than the Wii VC games will. A pity that Nintendo didn't implement an option to force 4x3 on the Gamepad itself while running Wii games and just have the vWii run everything in 16x9. Wii VC games would've looked much better on the Gamepad that way )
  11. Yay! 720p screenshot uploads! BTW, The loading speeds are better (both loading a game and going back to the Wii U menu - not by a huge amount, but it is noticeable). Miiverse loading times seem to be the same, but the eShop now loads faster (and features a strange roulette minigame you can play while you wait ) Wii games on the Gamepad don't look as clear and sharp as you'd expect, no doubt because the Wii, like all non HD devices, uses anamorphic widescreen (which involves stretching a 640 x 480 4x3 image into a 854x480 16x9 format) - which I totally forgot about actually This means that Wii games look a bit blurry on the Gamepad (though nowhere near as blurry as on a big HDTV of course :p ) Nice to see that they thought about this and ensure that VC games don't get stretched (though I'm not sure if the enforced 4x3 is done by the vWii or the Gamepad itself. The former may result in reduced image quality, as it means that the vWii would be squashing the 640x480 image into a smaller resolution, while the latter would retain the full image quality that you would expect. I don't have any UK VC games to test this with, so I'd appreciate some impressions of how Wii VC games look on the Gamepad in comparison to their native Wii U counterparts!) BTW, small thing, but they updated the web browser UI a bit (it also supports PDFs and embedded videos without having to make it full screen anymore). It now allows you to copy/paste text while the keyboard is open and doesn't zoom in anymore when you input text (this makes quoting and replying to posts on here much easier for me now! ) Good point! I'll have to try that one (I doubt it'll be "real" DPL2, but fakey auto DPL2 should be possible now )
  12. WHY NINTENDO WHYYYYYY!? At least make it selectable! (Or a secret hidden song!) BTW, I swear that this update is taking longer to install than it took to bloody download it! (I hope those install times also get fixed in this update...)
  13. They had better not have completely gotten rid of the old eShop music. That was my favourite of all the Nintendo shop music tracks! (I'm sure that someone has archived it, but still... )
  14. The update basically gives everyone one of these for free... No matter how you slice it, that's pretty cool (although the real megaton here should be DPL2 support for Wii games being fixed ) Man, this update is taking its sweet time...
  15. No doubt it's either a technical limitation involving the Virtual Wii being unable to detect any controllers other than the ones that a normal Wii would be able to detect, or it's a matter of Nintendo not wanting to break the Wii U's security by allowing the VWii to access the Wii U's hardware features. TBH, I didn't even expect them to be able to do this at all! (And go figure, most of my games are US versions, so I won't be able to play most of my games on my Wii U ) BTW, this is gonna be great for Rhythm Heaven Wii players with laggy TVs. No more input lag!
  16. HOLY JEBUS! WII OFF TV PLAY!? MEGATON OF THE CENTURY! (too bad that almost all of my Wii games are NTSC ones - making them unplayable on my Wii U without hacking Wii mode ) I didn't even think that was possible! (Ok, the lack of Gamepad controls is totally expected but still! WOW!) Nice to see them finally fix DPL2 support for original Wii games as well
  17. Woohoo! Parts 13-24 are now up! (About bloody time!) Already seen 13-18 (we'll just pretend that I didn't forget to update this thread when they came out last week...) but 19-24 just appeared today
  18. Fixed that one for you Considering that nearly every EU N64 game got full FIGS localizations done for them, and that NOE seem reluctant to offer the US 60hz versions as an alternative to those that don't need any languages other than English, this is the part you should be worried about
  19. If you use the Crystal levelling up trick (don't put the crystals into the palaces until the very end of the game - as you always get a full level up when you do, allowing you to shoot straight up from level 7 to 8 instantly!), then you shouldn't need to grind much, if any, at all
  20. Hey @Cube I was wondering about something... I had a go on the 3DS demo version of Sonic Lost World at Eurogamer Expo and I felt that the levels felt that they dragged on for a bit too long. One thing I really love about the old Sonics (and what I feel about Lost World Wii U) is that all the levels felt short and sweet, never outstaying their welcome; but Sonic LW 3DS seems to have longer levels than the Wii U one from what I've seen and did feel a bit dragged out from what I played of that demo... Do you feel that the 3DS version's levels are too long for your liking?
  21. Nice! Great to see them all come along in one go, instead of having them drag out the releases! Glad to see that this is becoming a thing with Capcom
  22. Sweet! VERY pricey though Still it's good to see an uncommon game like this hit the eShop Hopefully the same will now happen with Tales of The Abyss (Which has become pretty rare and hard to find...)
  23. Not to toot my own horn here buuuuuttt... Last Week Yesterday This morning at 07:24 AWWW YEAH :awesome:
  24. I'm betting that a Nintendo Direct will be announced either today or tomorrow (for either Tuesday or Wednesday), while the update itself will be delivered as soon as the maintenance is finished (the idea being that the console will just autodownload it overnight and then during the Nintendo Direct they can say "ooh lookie! As soon as you turn your Wii U on, you'll notice all these awesome new features from the update that downloaded itself to your Wii U!") Edit: AWWWW YEAHHHHH!!! I'm too good at this malarkey! :awesome: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=688069 Who needs Emily Rogers?
  25. Nothing else has been officially announced but it'll almost certainly include the Wii U system transfer feature that they said would be coming in a future update. Folders are also pretty likely (considering how hard they're pushing digital) and it'll almost certainly herald the start of N64 & GBA VC games (as the Spring update began the NES & SNES VC lineup). But nothing is set in stone other than a speed improvement. Those are just educated guesses (and lord knows if anything else is planned for this one...)
