  1. Yup. Pretty much spot on here. It's basically a beginner's Roguelike with Pokemon mechanics tossed in for good measure. I'm not a fan of the really harsh roguelikes like Shiren the Wanderer, because they're just utterly ridiculous (seriously!? Die once and start the entire game over again from level 1!? Fuck that! ), but the PKMD games strike a nice balance for me. They're not easy and the difficulty gets pretty nutso in the later optional dungeons, but the penalties are never unbearably harsh like in most other roguelikes The Pokemon battle mechanics are also integrated well too and go a long way towards spicing the gameplay up (though the catching part can be pretty BS if you're after specific Pokemon - especially the legendaries and Kecleon!), while the randomly generated dungeons and crazy luck based enemy encounters keep you on your toes (though the penalties aren't that harsh, the games aren't afraid to kill you out of nowhere!) Also they have ridiculously good soundtracks, and surprisingly good stories too, with lots of well written and lovable characters! What's not to like? Tell that to Pokemon Battle Link (which was announced as a pre-production prototype at the same time as when they showed off GDPikachu), which was announced well before it was released in any region. It's the most likely candidate to be shown here out of everything that we know. Genius Sonority and Jupiter have been busy recently with their own games they've just put out (Denpa Men Free and Picross e5 respectively) and Creatures are probably the team developing GDPikachu... Those are the most likely candidates to be making a Pokemon spinoff (outside of Namco with Pokken, but this doesn't seem like the appropriate place to announce something like this - a Famitsu announcement better fits something like GDPikachu... nor is it the right time to announce a Pokemon fighting game right before the release of Smash Bros...), so all signs point towards it being the game shown off here, despite it not being due for a good while...
  2. Aye. VCA was the biggest missed opportunity on Wii! And with the removal of the storage limitations of Wii and the stronger hardware capabilities of Wii U, the potential is astounding and yet... ... *sigh*
  3. Not bad. Adventures of Lolo and Double Dragon 2 this week
  4. It's obviously a mainline Pokemon game for smartphones come on guys...
  5. DOS SHADEZ! :awesome: Like a fine wine, he's only gotten cooler over time...
  6. Now. Where's my HD VC release!?
  7. I haven't seen that vid myself, but it looked fun on the Treehouse Live stream at least Nice use of the hookshot to take shortcuts, some fun looking time management (what with you trying to run around and stop your opponents from taking bases - the guy playing even managed to fail here!), secrets to be found using bombs, bigger enemies posing a challenge unlike the brainless grunts... Maybe these aspects don't really come into play until later on, but it looks like the time management stuff will make things fun - even if the enemies aren't going to pose much of a threat
  8. Surprised that he didn't rip off KIU's format wholesale. Looks like you can equip whatever you want without limit (so long as it fits within the limited weight allowance), but each item has a limited number of uses before it breaks.
  9. Well technically Game Freak IS a 3rd party developer... But either way, pretty much everyone with half a brain cell saw Gen 3 remakes coming around the corner. It wasn't exactly a hard guess
  10. Everyone is looking at this rumour the wrong way. Think about WHO is putting out this rumour... It's the guy who previously claimed that Nintendo picked up Devil's Third and (more recently) claimed that Nintendo snagged another 3 more exclusive unannounced 3rd party titles for Wii U. Assuming that this guy is right again, it's clear that whatever info he gets is about 3rd party games in general. So that means that this remastered game is very likely to be a 3rd party game... Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2 perhaps?
  11. What's most likely is that with the limited dev time they had (and the lack of ability to delay the game further back, what with the Wii U's woeful software release schedule and all), K-T and Nintendo had to make a choice between having local Gamepad/TV co-op or online co-op and they chose the former
  12. Well now! Guess I'm upgrading MM1-6 to Wii U VC status then! Sorry Mega Man Anniversary Collection and MM1-3 US Wii VC, but you're all useless now :p (ok, the two Power Fighters games are alright I suppose, so MMAC isn't completely useless yet...)
  13. That 3DSxl would look so much better if the emblem was actually coloured in a light shade of red, rather than the searing grey scale that they're using Actually, yes it is! You'll need to re-download SSB, but it will work Basically whenever you do a system transfer, the content of both 3DS consoles gets combined onto the account that is being transferred over.
  14. Yeah, that echoes my own thoughts about the game. Beyond the beautiful visuals and the myriad of Ooh-Neat tech demoey uses of the Vita's hardware functions, the actual core gameplay is incredibly basic and barebones. You have basic jumping and picking up/carrying/throwing and both don't aspects don't really move beyond the basic actions you'd expect from the start - likewise, the game shows more or less its full hand from the start in regards to gameplay functions from the Vita's unique controls and doesn't really introduce much from there either... I would hope that this second chance would allow them to actually build something more complex and engaging than the original, but MM's credentials lie in pretty much all aspects other than core gameplay really... (nobody in their right mind would consider LBP to be a good platformer in of itself after all - it's a great level creation tool, but not a good platformer). Still, if this move is indicative of a wider shift of Vita-PS4 remakes/ports, you know what game I'd love to see get the same treatment? Now THAT's a game with really great core gameplay!

    Rime

Ico is a good example of a game like that working very well (ok, it does have some very basic combat that the game goes out of its way to de-emphasise, but the puzzles/platforming is the main focus). I'm not asking for combat, just... something other than walking/climbing! What's the point of having a massive world like this and then doing nothing with it!? It might as well be a glorified screensaver! If I can get more or less the same experience by watching a video of the game, then there's no point in playing it. And nothing that has been shown about the game leads me to expect anything other than just that...
  16. Yeah it is, just like how LBP2 was BC with all of the LBP1 levels.

    P.T.

Well now that definitely sounds promising Remains to be seen how closely they're actually involved though...

    Rime

I'll believe it has puzzles when I see them. Until then, Rime is a glorified walking simulator with beautiful visuals and nothing more... They've had two shots at showing off how the game plays and both times they have sold the game off of its beautiful artistic direction and music alone... Not a good sign for anyone hoping to find some substance underneath all that style...
  19. Now this is a weird one. It's like a remixed version of the original game, with the Vita specific gameplay elements being jettisoned in favour of DS4 specific ones and levels redesigned to accommodate that, while still featuring the same settings and story... Reminds me of Castlevania Rondo of Blood being turned into Castlevania Dracula X on SNES... Been a while since we've seen something like this!
  20. Well this looks neat. Wasn't a fan of Dead Nation though and this does look pretty similar... Still I do like Resogun, so this'll be worth keeping an eye on

    Rime

So lets see, we have basic climbing, basic swimming, walking/running and... err, what other gameplay? Well it looks beautiful at least...
  22. Wow! That's damn impressive! Even if it's only timed, the size of the moneyhat involved must be utterly staggering! And there I was thinking that the age of the 3rd party exclusive was well and truly dead! You have to admire MS' balls here! Looks like it's gonna be a straight up brawl. ROT: Tomb Raider VS Uncharted 4 for 2015! Blades shall bleed and flame shields shall shatter as fanboys will take to each other's throats! Fun times ahead!
  23. And rightly so! The Playmaker controls are amazing! I always thought that Nintendo should've pulled a Project Zero/Fatal Frame and roped in PES as an exclusive and give it the budget that Konami never could. With it struggling to maintain relievence against Fifa as a multiplatform series, Nintendo platforms being completely bereft of Fifa action and a dev team that actually put in some bloody effort to make an awesome and unique experience that actually took advantage of the Wiimote to make a game that couldn't be done with a traditional controller (from a 3rd party and all! Now there was a rarity on Wii!), it always came across as a lost opportunity on both sides. A shame really. It's probably too late for something like that to rescue the series from irrelevancy at this point, but if we can at least get one good HD Playmaker game on Wii U, then at least the series could go out on a high note
  24. PES 2015 possibly coming to Wii U!? http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=872819 That's really surprising if true! If it comes with the Playmaker controls from the Wii games, it might actually be worth a punt on Wii U! It would also mean that the Fox Engine would be up and running on Wii U too...
  25. The 3DS really shouldn't be struggling with these visuals though. Pokedex 3D Pro uses the same models (X&Y use modified versions of the Pokedex models for the most part), runs in S3D (with SSAA on top of that to boot!), with more detailed backgrounds and IIRC you can have 6 models onscreen at the same time with the AR viewer. Game Freak's Pokemon 3DS engine just sucks balls (which is ironic because Harmoknight, done by a smaller team within GF, looks fantastic and runs at an unwavering 60FPS, even when running in S3D!)
