  1. Why on earth are you guys arguing about Microsoft vs Sony? That has nothing to do with the Playstation Mini! Anyway, it's a real shame that they seem that, in the process of ripping off Nintendo's mini consoles, they forgot to ripoff the most important thing... quality emulation. The use of a homebrew emulator (PCSX ReARMed) in a high profile Sony product like this is shameful. Absolutely shameful. Its even more shocking when you consider the fact that Sony already have an internal PS1 emulator used on the PS3, PSP and Vita. They gave so little a toss about this product that they couldn't even be bothered to port their own emulator over; it even runs on ARM already on Vita! And then the use of crappy 50hz versions of games on top of that!? Come on Sony! No filtering options at all?! Noticable input lag!? No way to turn off the crappy blur filter they have on the screen? FFS! I bet the games are riddled with graphical and sound glitches too... This is always the problem with these mini consoles that everyone (except Nintendo) always keep making. The reason why the Nintendo Mini consoles were so successful, while all other plug n' play consoles have failed, is because they nailed the emulation! Nintendo put out quality products, while everyone else put out trash! PS1 deserved better than this. The game selection here was even pretty good! (considering the rights hell that plagues many of the most popular PS1 games), but of course, of course, they have to fall at the last hurdle and fail to provide quality emulation.
  2. It can be played that way. The catching mechanics work exactly like Pokemon Go when in handheld mode (aim with the gyro, flick the touchscreen or press A to throw the Pokeball).
  3. ??? It IS a Red/Blue remake! (Or more specifically, it's actually a Pokemon Yellow remake) The catching mechanics have been completely replaced by the mechanics from Pokemon Go however. The battle mechanics are a simplified version of the mainline games (no hold items, no abilities, greatly reduced movesets etc) and you level up in the same way as in Pokemon Go, though you do earn exp from battles as well still.
  4. I'm just interested in seeing what the "SP" version of Metroid will entail... I'm guessing that it'll probably just be a save state where they've entered a password that gives you full missiles/health/energy tanks from the get-go... Hopefully it'll be more interesting though...
  5. They know that half the fun of a new Smash game is the speculation that comes along with it. No sense in killing the hype with a list of characters (plus they always do character reveals with actual footage - yes, even Mewtwo had a model to show off - and they currently have nothing to show). Even though this won't count towards the prediction contest (I've already well lost it anyway!) I'm gonna go ahead and make myself look stupid by making the following DLC list prediction...
  6. On a more interesting topic... That's interesting that the list was entierly requested by Nintendo. So that basically means no 3rd party characters and probably only either more popular or more recent characters... ... which makes it all the more surprising that Rex didn't make the cut! Paper Mario's chances just rocketed upwards, while Shantae's just plumetted!
  7. Again. Everything else other than BOTW on Switch is £49.99 max. And the price is only higher in Europe for both BOTW and Smash. Everywhere else gets the standard retail price. We're having to pay substantially more than every other region for no good reason here. And only for these two games. It's unfair, no matter how you slice it.
  8. Not on Switch. The only game other than Smash that has an RRP of £60 is Breath of the Wild. Everything else is £49.99. It's also $60 in the US and standard full retail price everywhere else; just like every other full priced Switch game (including BOTW). It's just Europe that gets screwed here.
  9. The RRP is actually £59.99. That's why. And no, there's no good reason for it at all. The game is significantly more expensive in Europe than anywhere else in the world, simply just 'cause. It's not even because of the game's budget! Most of the game's content is just recycled from previous games! It's just because they know that they can get away with it. BTW, I had no idea that Link's shield was that amazing in Smash 4! Might have to try playing as him more... Yeah, if it doesn't have the stage builder, that's gonna be a huge shame. I had hours of fun making stupid, ridiculous stages using that thing; even with its hilariously limited tools! You won't be able to make up nearly as many ridiculous custom game rules without it... hardly an Ultimate experience... ... that being said, it hasn't been de-confirmed yet... There's still a chance!! Believe!!
  10. The people knew that Lugia was the superior Pokemon As for Dreamcast? I'm shocked at how sports heavy that list is! No wonder EA were so afraid of Visual Concepts! They absolutely tore up the charts! You can clearly see why they took the plunge and bought exclusive licensing rights to counteract them!
  11. I can't believe that Pokemon Pinball outsold Crystal in the US! That's nutso! The Yu-Gi-Oh hype was also insane back then! Bear in mind that game came out AFTER the GBA had launched and you'll quickly realise how utterly bonkers mad that is! Starfox 64 also ranks way higher than I ever expected!
  12. The next batch of ACA NeoGeo games has been revealed! Woo!!! Twinkle Star Sprites at last! Why on earth this one skipped the Wii VC outside Japan, I have no idea, but I'm glad to see it finally come! It's a great little multiplayer title! Also, this marks the first time that the original versions of Puzzle Bobble 1 & 2 have ever been re-released!
  13. Dammit! I literally just came to post that video for you @S.C.G! Glad to hear that the PS4 release isn't terrible (if not quite ideal). These games are amazing (especially Rondo) and need to be made widely available!
  14. Pokemon Channel is very much the successor to Hey You Pikachu. It was developed by the same team and shares a lot in common, including the setting. Those were the days where Ambrella at least tried with making weird, if very flawed, experimental gameplay concepts. I do have to at least admire them for that. Their early games never quite hit the mark in terms of quality, but you can’t say that they didn’t try to make something different! Then they became a Pokemon Rumble factory.
  15. The English manual is still missing, maybe it's to do with that? Otherwise, who knows
  16. Oh come on!! FFS SEGA! Get it together!!
  17. Yeah, I don't know what they're thinking with the removal of For Fun and For Glory. It seems like a big step backwards and I bet that the competitive community will not be happy with the decision.
  18. Not really. Considering that the game requires you to make a throwing motion with the Joy-con in docked mode... yeah... that wouldn't end well with a Pro Controller...
  19. https://www.resetera.com/threads/pokemon-lets-go-to-be-final-directorial-role-for-masuda-for-core-games.78428/ Pokemon Let's Go will be the final game that Junichi Masuda will ever direct. He's retiring as game director of the mainline series after this and will focus purely on music from now on. It's likely that Shigeru Ohmori (director of ORAS and Sun/Moon) will take over the reigns of the series from now on.
  20. It looks like a pretty solid successor to Woolly World, which was a pretty solid game. Just like Woolly World, it looks very slow, chill and not very action focused. The level design philosophy looks extremely similar, and the foreground/background mechanics are a natural evolution that befit the collection/find the hidden object gameplay of Woolly World to a tee. That's not a bad thing really, but I reckon that some who are looking for something faster paced and more action packed than Woolly World will be disappointed. For those that enjoyed Woolly World, it's going to feel very familiar and it'll surely be a great chill game! The game looks a lot more polished than the old demo now. The delay has done it a world of good! That being said, the visuals are a bit disappointing in that it really isn't much of an upgrade over Woolly World at all (It also looks like it's running in 720p/900p, definitely not 1080p - the 3D elements look very soft compared to the HUD). I'm not convinced that Good Feel made the right choice in switching from their bespoke Wii U engine (which looked and ran very well on Wii U) to UE4; it doesn't really feel like it has paid off. It's still great looking mind you, but its not much of a jump from Woolly World and I get the feeling that they would've been better off building on top of their existing Woolly World engine.
  21. Smash Bros Ultimate takes up 13.6GB of space for those getting the digital version. That's actually ridiculously small! It's much smaller than Smash Wii U! Either there is some ninja compression tech going on, or there's gonna be an optional download for the videos and music...
  22. See, that's the thing, there's a little secret to that... Believe it or not, but open world games are actually generally much easier to make than crafted, traditionally designed games like Metroid Prime and Wind Waker. You don't need quality, meticulously crafted level and game design when your game's main selling point is a systems driven sandbox that takes place in a big field of nothing. Sure, it still takes a lot of effort to make all those art assets, but it's actually cheaper to make a game like that in HD; that was one of the big reasons why Nintendo moved away from the traditional style of Zelda with BOTW; they actually admitted this in their GDC talk, where they said that it would be too expensive to reasonably make another traditional 3D Zelda game in HD and that they had to change the way that they make games to continue making Zelda games, to something that didn't require handcrafted environments. Luigi's Mansion 2 sold over 6 million copies, LM3 is not a "small hitter" at all. Same goes for Fire Emblem: Three Houses. FE Fates sold roughly 3 million copies and Three Houses is going to top that easily on Switch. Both are much bigger hitters than Metroid Prime 4 in fact! And neither game is low budget either, if anything, I would bet on them having a much larger budget than MP4. Pokemon Gen 8 is also going to be massive (and Pokemon games ARE big budget titles, even if the visuals don't usually reflect that. The sheer amount of staff they have working on them is insane! Think about the sheer amount of Pokemon that they have to model and animate for a second and you'll quickly realise just how mammoth a task it is to make a Pokemon game!) and then there are other critical darlings getting big budgets that will be at least as high as MP4, like Bayonetta 3. Nintendo are far from done making "big" games, that idea is just silly. No, these games just take time to make. Big HD games take a lot of time and manpower to make, that's why 2018 has ended up being a bit of a breather year in general for Nintendo, despite almost all of Nintendo's internal development being moved onto a single platform.
  23. Yeah true, it's more like Crazy Orders with stickers. Which is neat, but it's no replacement for Event Match. Hopefully I'm right and all the cool events are to be found in World of Light. It does look that way from what I can tell...
  24. It's not really quite the same. The matches don't seem to have specific win conditions like in Event Match. It's just a set of normal fights with wacky parameters, there don't seem to be any variable win conditions at all, so there isn't nearly as much variety and craft to the gameplay. I think they've basically taken Event Match and put them all into World of Light. As for Incineroar? I do agree that his poses are hilarious, but really? THAT's the character you end on? Coming from Ridley and bloody K-Rool? It's hard to not be disappointed.
