  1. Agreed, although still smaller compared to DQVII, it's what I wished FFX did rather then going from one point to another. But that's the same with all the DQ games, it didn't just start on this one, DQ VII took more then 6 years to complete and it bigger then DQVIII plus had only 30 people working on it, it was really a game that had a lot of effort put into it and it showed (A lot of people dissed it because of the graphics but it's a far greater game compared to VIII IMO). Then how come I am playing RPG's on the DS more then I am on consoles? There are RPG's on the 360 and PS3 as well as the Wii, but I am loving the DS RPG's much more compared to most of the crap on the PS3 and 360 Yuji Horii clearly stated he wanted this game to be a connection to everyone which is why it's so heavily multiplayer base, you look at pics and see Japanese everywhere having their DS's out playing with people. It's done it's job and no other system could have accomplished what he had in mind. Why waste millions of more $$$ when you can still make people smile on a system that costs less and still does the requirements you want? This is not Final Fantasy, it's a game that does not need super uber high polygon graphics to be a good game. DQVIII didn't even have voices in the Jap version, I am fine with no voices to be honest, as long as I can still enjoy the fun and simplicity of the game I don't care, as well as midi music was in the Jap version, don't like not having a orchestrated track, go and buy the album. So you complain because the creator who gave you VIII decided not to put it on the 360 and PS3? Obviously he thinks he can still create good games on systems not as powerful as them, and he is showing, many people are still playing DQIX with people almost over 100 hours having too much fun with what you can do in it. In the end, this game is...wait for it....wait for it...CASUAL!!!! oh yeah I said it, it's much simpler and easier compared to most games, and anybody can play and enjoy the game, the Wii market and DS market have the casual audience and that's where the team want to make the next DQ game, and I say good on them. Want pretty colours and pointless cutscenes, wait for the new FF game. To me I really don't care where it goes because I know Horii won't fuck up and he hasn't, whatever system it's on there must be a reason behind it. So you can keep complaining about how you can't have your DQ HD or just go and enjoy the games that come out.
  2. The game is still good (Heck I would put this in my top 3 RPG of last gen), it's still a new and unique fresh game, with the perfect overworld map and enjoyable old school battle. I am only comparing this game now towards the other Dragon Quest games now thats all, and all of them are above average games as well as the spin offs they have, I don't think any other series can really top that. When making Dragon Quest it's obvious they put a lot of heart in it, hence why I don't give a rats ass if Dragon Quest XI goes on WiiWare over the 360 and PS3 for purty grapchics. As long as Yuji Horii, Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama continue making the game it will always have the charm that no other game really has.
  3. Bumping this thread because I have gone back to play it. With much more time spent on the rest of the Dragon Quest series, I must say, it feels very slow Dragon Quest VIII comapared to the rest of the Dragon Quest series. I would have loved to have an option where I didn't have to sit through the whole attacking sequence. Plus I also played the Japanese version of this game and now I am upset about one little thing that the US got rid of that the japanese had in the game. The menu. I am now in love with the simple menu system on all the Dragon Quest games only to remember how DQVIII US version has a menu that's downright annoying and covers the whole screen. The amount of times it loaded for that menu was annoying and would have loved the old school menu. I can only Hope Square-Enix don't do this to Dragon Quest IX and X when they come to the US Also with caves and dungeons...they are fat, there is so much useless space in this one compared to the other DQ games, made me think that the team were originally thinking of having monsters seen roam and you battle going up to them, but cancelled the idea near the end of production. Still, I love this game, just wanted to nit pick some of the things I wished could have changed after playing the game again. Out of all the Dragon Quest games I think it's probably the 5th best one out of the series.
  4. Huh? but why say that? I mean the game is still playable and as fun as it would be if the graphics were worst or better. *Looks at Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Another Code, Punch Out, Zelda* Hmm, I don't know, they are much more uniuque now then what they were back in the days, it still feels fresh to me (Not as much as what the SNES/N64 era did for me but it's much fresher compared to the Gamecube) I thought you would be used to waiting for a new Zelda games (Heck look at the gap between Zelda ALttP and Zelda OOT) A lot, Metroid feels even smoother then it did when using the Gamecube controller, and mario was a fun game where it was not heavily using the Wii controller, but would not work as well as it would have if it was on the normal controller Hahahaha, I had a good laugh at this one, if Nintendo didn't care, those traditional games would be out now, all rushed all crap...kind of like how 3rd party games are with the Wii at the moment (Not some of them though, but most of them) Holy shit, Zelda and Dragon Quest are ruined because of waggle, even though the main game for both of them in the series has yet to be even shown. Remember what it was like with Dragon Quest IX and Zelda PH on the DS? People thought it would fail because of the 'Oh noez touch screen going to ruin everything I loved about the series' and now have been highly praised both of them have been. What makes the Wii any different (Especially when there has been NOTHING to be shown of those 2 games yet) And if Dragon Quest VII on the PS1 taught me anything, Yuji Horii doesn't think a great deal about graphics, if he did, the game would have been 5 disks, all full of FMV's and have made the characters all 3D rather then the characters being 2D (The game came out like in 2001 in Japan as well) But a console should have settled down ages ago, it should have been when it was released. I am getting sick of people who now say 'Oh just wait until this and this is out, only then will everything start' It started when the 360 came out, there have been RPG's on the 360, there have been many games now going onto the PS3 (May I add that I find every exclusive game boring on the PS3 bah Valkyrie Chronicle and Demon Soul)
  5. I am still playing my old PS2 games, and as well as catching up on DS games. (Does that answer the question?) Console generation is very poor, while handheld has been the best it's ever been and for a good reason.
  6. Umm...how do I say this, it's kind of not like the latter It's more like the other Dragon Quest Monster games in the series (Which was based off Dragon Quest V monster taming aspect) Only thing really in common with VIII is that it's 3D...and...
  7. On the big screen Bruno Well what has to be said that everyone else has said about the movie, I liked it, and find it just as good as Borat, so not upset about it at all. 7/10 On DVD Commando God, no matter how many times I watch this movie, I just can't get enough of it 8/10
  8. Just be glad we are getting it very soon. Usually the gap between the the US release and the Europe release is small, with S-E games. But this game easily sparks my interest and also gives me hope that the Final Fantasy series is not dead.
  9. He losses because he spent all those hours on a game and enjoyed the game a lot?....I don't get it So in the end the game goes up the price, people will still buy it and some people now won't and will wait for the price to go down and shit, if less people don't buy it, it might just have to go down in price to get some sales. That's all there is too it, Activision are greedy, Ubi-soft are greedy, EA are greedy, Sony are greedy, Nintendo are greedy, Microsoft are greedy and every other game company are greedy. Hence why it's called a business, if they continue making great games that I enjoy, I'll buy them, just like how if I enjoy a movie or a book, I'll buy it.
  10. *Holds off from a KH or FFX remark* Ehem...the game does pick up once you get the persona.
  11. can not look since it seems to only allow you brits to look at it >_>
  12. Another note, Nomura wasn't involved with XII either
  13. Nomura is good with designs, but thats it. He is shit at directing in my opinion, gameplay is as boring as paint dry. Yeah, lots of striking then running backwards quickly or else once enemy hits you you die Nomura did have a lot more involvement after VII, but not as much as he has now. I'll give VIII some credit...it's better then Final Fantasy X Funny fact, Nomura wasn't involved And most of the team behind FFIX are over working on Crystal Chronicles series. (They should get the chance to make FF XV and make it for the Wii )
  14. Don't know, perhaps we won't know until it comes out to Japan, I am placing a bet that Atlus will get it released in english.
  15. The games I played before I still did not like and did not know about Nomura being a director on. Namely Kingdom Hearts, Square side of business has basically lost the ball ever since Mutsuno left after FFXII, since so many great talents have left and gone onto other things as well (Like Monolith Soft, guys behind Chrono Cross and Xenogears) as well as hironobu sakaguchi leaving. Only thing making me like Square-Enix (And Enix side of things anyway) is Yuji Horii and his fine work (But he is freelance as well so he could leave and make a new series for another company whenever he wants to) It's all about taste, I have very different taste compared to others, I am sure you would enjoy the game and I highly recommend you playing it. A trailer for it, shows little of the game but still a good basic show of what to expect ^_^
  16. I have taste, I just don't like fan fiction stories What are you talking about!? We both love Monster Hunter as well as most Nintendo games no? It's mostly just Nomura games which we both go against each other I don't think we have complained about what game is good or bad, only one I think about are the ones Nomura has been heavily been involved with and thats it :P
  17. I am surprised no one is really talking about it, especially since it's the newest one to the main series. And now it's coming out to the PSP, which the PSP truly needs more loving ^_^ All I can say is that I really can't wait for this game xD Trailer Screenshots Source: RPGgamer
  18. Hell yeah, more reason to finally use my PSP to play PSP games xD
  19. No, there isn't something wrong with me, but the song is pretty average, and it's no where near as good as what nobuo uematsu can pull off especially after fantastic music from games like IV,V,VI,VII,VIII,IX, which has far greater music in it then what X had which is a damn shame. Anyway Black mages made the song a bit more worthy to listen to If you enjoy first person, a game where you can't go straight in front of an enemy or your dead and patience as well as a huge amount of chances dying in it. You'll enjoy it
  20. While people complain about prices, I still see normal retail price for australian games at $120 >_>
  21. Been going back to playing old PS2 games after completing Kings Field 4 (Seriously, greatest scariest most atmospheric RPG game on the PS2 by far xD ) And Persona 4 (Not as great as Persona 3) Now going through Odin Sphere
  22. Nintendogs was a good game, just not good for some people like us Plus I think Nintendogs got good scores as a whole so should we diss all the other reviewers?
  23. Famitsu DQIX - 10 10 10 10 First game of the Dragon Quest series to get a perfect score
  24. Yeah well like I said, just don't like it. The music tried to hard, the main character was just damn typical and is what I really bloody hate in most JRPGs protagonists, I only had to play the first 10 mins to know exactly how the characterwould change, the battles made you scratch your head as you could still get through them without thinking, a true typical Nomura game
