Leave It To The Americans To Declare War On Themselves
jayseven replied to Emasher's topic in General Chit Chat
In the UK you can essentially live anywhere for 30 days before the local council can move you on legally. I have no idea if any similar US law exists, though! -
So far, received a couple of books - Snuff by Pratchett and this sci-fi book that my friends got signed by the author on their anniversary (lol) -- some unheard of guy, anyway. Also got a passport cover! As for gifts for others - purchased everything so far, buuut waiting for it all to arrive... Need to wrap it too... Don't really think I've done especially well this year.
-
All of the above, plus a few other names for periods of time. I love that you're back because I mentioned you :P remember svt4him? Didn't you have a kid or something?
-
ffs just bought bastion at twice that price! 600 MSP is well worth it! Same for plants vs zombies. I may get insanely twisted etcetc, though.
-
Yeah, there's a few of us :P Hi crazy mexican! Your kid must be old now.
-
Then AWESOME! I am pleased for you I've been to rome but found it was overcrawling with tourists and didn't enjoy it much... so yeah, I'm of no use to you :P But yes - best of luck to you!
-
How long have you know the girl have you ever lived with her where will you live once together what if she says no?
-
Probably not -- but if you "owe" the council money, then you have plenty of time to set the record straight
-
@Eddage get a letter from your uni as proof that you're a full-time student and send it to the council with your reference number. The council doesn't get to decide what kind of course you're on!

The COD games (and Halo, iirc) allowed you to basically 'plug' a 2nd controller in and have a friend play as a 'guest' online with you, however they would not be able to use their regular profile, nor get any achievements this way -- but it still allows split-screen online fun. Can't remember ever doing it personally, but it's very frequent to play Modern Warfare games and see a gamertag duplicate with a (1) suffix, indicating they are a guest.

Blackout for three hours! Right in the middle of a blitz chess game hmph. Plus side; laptop fully charged so watched Moon in the dark, all cosy and tings.

Got smashed 6-0. My team is ready for the middle league -- everyone playing at least one skill bar below what they are reportedly classed as. Good season ahead, then!

Website of the year: reddit.com It was much earlier this year, perhaps last, that Shorty told me about reddit - I had a look but was very confused as to what was going on. A few months ago I went back on, got a couple of firefox add-ons that shorty recommended and now it's integrated into my daily routine rather nicely. /b/ got too monotonous/nsfl and generally I felt like I was sifting through shit to get to the odd diamond post, while reddit provides me with instant humour or interest if I want it. I know some btards who are fuming at the whole thing, but hey! Game of the year... A tricky one indeed. Bastion was hugely mesmerising, but I think Deadly Premonition will hold the key to my heart because it was such a quirky little experience - plus not enough other people have played it, and because it's a bit niche in terms of appeal it means I can be all hipster about it. Also, I've not got Skyrim yet... Book series of the year: the Culture novels, by Iain M. Banks Read all of 'em, and books 2-5 just got better and better, then the constant level of quality was always extremely high. TV Series of the year: Game of Thrones While Breaking Bad was utterly fantastic, again maintaining a high level of excellence throughout, Game of Thrones was something I skipped for ages thinking "blah blah fantasy blah." I felt very foolish after i watched the first episode! Mate's lent me the first two books, but I'm hesitant to read them before I watch them, now. Another friend has read all of the books (to date?) and basically threatens to ruin the whole thing every now and then. Album of the year: None... iPod's headphone input socket doesn't work anymore so I've not listened to much music at all. Mostly whatever I listen to in my girlfriend's car -- she likes country and western, so that's a lot of Sugarland and Dixie Chicks (Kings of Leon is an agreeable middle-ground).

I tried to get it as a 'developer' but at some point they wanted my mobile number for verification... fuck that. Can't find a sensible picture for the top -- but it's nice to be able to go to the PAST fairly snappy. Basically reminds me of a time when I had a camera and took lots of silly pictures. Here's hoping that happens in Oz!

That video goes from "aww cute!" to "ohmigod companies must be tripping over each other for this method of data gathering" -- The videos tend to show you some quirky idea that, if applied correctly, means world-changing stuff. There was a video I saw yesterday from 1984 (lol) that predicted much of today's motion sensitive/touchscreen tech that was fantastic.

Care to clear things up a bit, Rummy?

I know several of you guys know of this site already, but recently I've been spending an hour or so before bed watching anything and everything on here. Perhaps it's the subliminal effects of teh cameo it has on the ipad adverts, I don't know for sure. For those who don't know, TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and the whole idea is that TED puts on conferences and invites people to come and talk about their field of expertise. I tend to go for the videos labelled 'fascinating' as they are truly thought provoking. Some of the videos I can remember enjoying are below. The Intelligence of Crows The Birth of a Word Optical Illusions Show How We See What Hallucination Reveals About Our Minds (Gleaned from the 'most viewed' list :P) One of the things I love is the comprehensive subtitling (not that I use more than one option, there :P) which means I can watch it late at night on mute, if need be! Basically you can start by seeing what interests you already (Moot has done a video, that may be something to search for it you like) - but quickly you'll see that you can watch any of the videos and come away feeling like you've learned something new. I watched videos about trying to find the platonic foot, how bacteria communicates, the modern boundaries that define countries, tomato sauce, string theory... Talks are largely restricted to 15 minute time limits, and you'll be surprised how compelling they are. Has anyone else got a favourite they wish to share, perhaps?

Are you looking for general party games or co-op/4-player session games? Castle Crashers is a long-standing game of excellence for the latter. As for general party games, there's the free-to-download (I presume still) Dorito's Crash Course, and if you care to spend a few quid, you can get Table Tennis for like £1.50 from CEX, or look out for the XBLA Arcade disc which has 4-5 downloadable games on disc, including Pacman CE which is good take-in-turns fun for an hour or two, and costs £3, and looks like this; Pacman isn't co-op or multiplayer but fun is had in trying to beat each other's scores, same with Beautiful Katamari. But yeah - dlc has stuff like bomberman, worms, streets of rage, etc. purchasable games like Left 4 Dead are good for multiplayer, but if it's just two people then you're better getting something like Marvel Ultimate Alliance or even one of the Lego games -- again, depends on the timescale. General party games are rare, but I'm sure there are Scene-it games available.... Yeah, need more criteria! Otherwise things like halo, GoW, CoD, Army of Two and Rainbow Six offer some good co-op experiences, either in terms of campaigns or horde modes, stuff like that. Shooters shouldn't be dissed outright - difficulties can be set as high or low as you please, and teamwork is required. Definitely just want to say do not get ilomilo as it's not really co-op at all.

Thanking your post for the understanding, R_A, not out of some sadistic impulse Work phoned me back at half 12 and said I have work next week, and I later found out that three other people have been told that tomorrow is their last day, so I'll basically be the last temp in the building :S Bit gutted because two of them made work enjoyable and they won't be there monday, and I won't be there friday, so can't say g'bye. @Wesley I've genuinely spent non-internet time worrying about you recently.

To be honest, when you win a game 4-0 and it's bad news then you know you can't blame that game at all. Harry can't be disappointed with the performance on the night at all. Bonus question that I could probably google but can't be bothered; Birmingham's Rooney is totally unrelated...?
-
Apologies for lateness in accepting the game. Tea Cup Final Showdown all set! I need to win 2-0! Fat chance!

Grey haired man and the red-haired woman (weakest link?) appear to be our suspicious people. Red-haired seems to have been the blocked kill, here.

Been off work all week because of a chest infection, which I didn't want to spread in the office and which makes the prospect of talking for 7 hours straight on the phone to people not only daunting but borderline ridiculous. Called to say I wouldn't be in today and they've given me the prep to being let go over the phone... I'm a temp so they can basically do as they please. I appreciate that 5 days off is hard for any company to cover, especially when I've been pretty much carrying the shitty campaign we were working on. Mixed feelings, but I was going to finish at the end of next week anyway (they don't know this, but they know I'm going to Oz...) - this may just mean that I'll miss out on the xmas party!
