Toasted pizza sandwich! Sounds delicious. Do you always use pepperoni, or chorizo/salami? It's certainly not as cheap as a bowl of corn flakes each morning.. but I love pizza. I may try that this weekend

best comment I saw (I thought it was in /r/bestof but I couldn't find it). Republican states are generally rural, with voters far apart from each other so they can kind of live their lives thinking the government is a far-away, not-involved-in-their-day-to-day-business way, whereas obamavoters live in densely populated areas, and are forced to socially interact with others multiple times on a daily basis, so the idea of everyone working together for the good of everyone is more relatable to them. Something like that. I thought it was a nice theory.

That's an awesome goal! Love those. Favourite goal for me (i.e. first one off the top of my head) is Roberto Carlos's Impossible Goal; I love great scoring moments in loads of sports. I could watch a channel 4 100 Greatest for every sport (provided I get a few episodes of You've Been Framed to cleanse my eyeball pallet once in a while).

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHM Look like the movie BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHM is going to be nothing like the BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHM Book, which is a crying shame.

The right thing for sure. I certainly wouldn't be able to do anything about it at all, so you'll have to explain how you fit through doors with balls that big... I hope that's not inappropriate.

@ipaul that's been the reaction most people have, but out of the 'boring' cereals (corn flakes, weetabix, rice krispies, shredded wheat) I do think shreddies is the tastiest (sans fruit/sugar). however; jordan's country crisp... man one expensive box of that can last me a day. Goddamn I'm gonna go buy a box of it. I did omit the fact that I have a crushing Pepsi Max habit at the moment, drinking a 1.25 litre bottle a day (!!). Hot damn.

I know I'm getting slack in life when I'm skipping breakfast. People say it's the most important meal of the day - personally I believe it's not due to the energy it gives or the standardising of digestive systems it promises, instead I think it's the first proper test to a person's ability to maintain a daily routine. As soon as my routine's out of whack I'm skipping breakfast and snacking through the afternoon. But recently due to an overflow of eggs I've turned back to brekkie, with a cheeky bacon and egg sandwich (with spinach, chives and sweet grape tomatoes, and a dab of grated cheddar of course!). A german guy's a family friend, and he is a painter by trade. He's been round a few times the last few months, and what's great is he brings a massive ice box full of bread, cheese, cold meats, mustards and jams, and he treats breakfast like a Hobbit by having several small meals in teh morning. Great fun and a very sociable thing to do. One thing that is missing in Australia is SHREDDIES. I could eat that forever. (it's 8am here)

The Mental Health Thread - Living in the cuckoo's nest
jayseven replied to gaggle64's topic in General Chit Chat
Got a cast-iron pan that I need to treat properly (but the pan owner doesn't believe that the best way to look after it is to rub salt and oil in it to clean it rather than dishwasher). I must admit it's in flipping it that it goes wrong! :P There seems to be nothing wrong with talking eggs in a mental health thread, imo. (good on you for feeling spirited by the whole thing!) -

R_A don't let the severity of others' problems nullify yours. Hopefully the perspective helps alleviate your symptoms rather than serve to fuel them through some form of guilt Gaggle I'm glad things are continuing to progress well for you. You got any omelet tips? I have to turn mine into scrambled eggs, even if the heat is on low. -
I approached the book thinking it'd be incomprehensible; that David Mitchell would take his interweaving narrative of Cloud Atlas and instead create a deeply, historically accurate representation. Instead he provides a fairly succinct portrayal of believable and likeable characters, and equally is able to create a world we westerners are not used to, and make it real. Ghostwritten is like Cloud Atlas in the sense that it's essentially a bunch of short stories tied together -- though Cloud Atlas is an expertly interwoven masterpiece. Ghostwritten doesn't claim to be so inter-relevant. I really think that you can pick any of his books and find them enjoyable, I quite liked the movie's approach in this sense, but my main concern really lies in the fact that Tom Hanks has kinda sucked in movies for the last 5 years...

Consumer-driven is bound to be a near-impossible task, beause surely they'd have to stop weakening the chinese yen for it to happen - which in turn would mean that foreign investments would not be as ridiculously cheap as it is now, amirite?

@Iun gimme dat all-juicey China Truth-y.

I would very much appreciate it -- it'd see me through to practically coming home to the UK!
-
That entirely depends on which Gorman book you were reading! (just kidding, they're all excellent!)
-
That's ridiculous. What an unproductive day. Please tell me you had a book that became well-read, or something to do.

Say whaaaat?!

That's be awesome charlie Thanks!

I know the argument, but I disagree with the worshipping aspect. The BBC correspondant in Iran did say that the Iranian worry was that Romney would go all Lost Prophets and start something in the middle east, so what you say is totally valid But I think it's silly to just champion Obama without really, really knowing and/or being involved in the direct consequences of his actions. Plus I'm feeling extra crispy-miserable. Not trying to piss you off or anything Though I did like the fact that Romney took ages to give his speech because he didn't write a concession speech ahead of time!

Did the game come with 2 weeks of Live in the UK? Would anyone like to send me an unwanted code? Prettyfaceplease?

I know it sounds silly but I swear this takes you too far back sometimes (just anecdotal). Been checking the leaderboards and I'm surprised to see I rank as high as I do for so many things considering my completion is much lower... though I have amassed a silly amount of hours - closing in on 9 hours and only half-way through sequence 5! I am utterly absorbed in the game, and I love the serene areas where you can hunt.

@Iun I'm far more interested in what the 'once a decade' leadership change in China could mean. I've not heard anything about it except one tweet BBC have on their live feed at the moment. Elsewise I'm feeling extremely cynical about this whole thing. I mean of course I prefer Obama; I'm a liberal who knows nothing about running a country but has throwback 60s hippy ideals for how the world can run on peace and love, but I'm just surprised at how surprised (inorite) I am that everyone non-american is so... passionate/zealous about the whole affair.

Start off with David Mitchell's other works. Structure- and narrative-wise, Cloud Atlas is reasonably individual (of course it'd be foolish to say completely individual) but the scope of imagination and depth of subject material is prevalent throughout his work. Even if you disapproved of his 1800s, his book The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet is a great read (set in 1700s), though I do recommend turning your reading glasses to number9dream and Ghostwritten first (personally I've not even been able to finish Black Swan Green yet. Otherwise perhaps look at Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson (I read that and Cloud Atlas in a close timeframe and found both addictive, though SC end-story isn't perfect) - technically cyberpunk rather than the pop-philosophy pseudo-life-is-art category that CA (and Life of Pi) fall into. Shorty once recommended to me Girlfriend in a Coma by Douglas Coupland, and I'd highly recommend that. A Secret History by Donna Tartt is another must-read (again I read most of these books in a similar window).
