If you make the journey with other people, it can be great fun I've done loads of 4 hour journeys, and yeah it's knackering but if you come down for a weekend then it won't be so bad; arrive friday to a pub, or chilling out in the hotel/hostel room. Saturday you'll be energised, and sunday you'll probably just sleep the whole journey home

Well my squad's got a couple of injuries and poor fitness issues, so we'll see!

No mention of my killer finalé? Wait, I did do a killer finalé at some point, right? Hall of Meat is to Skate what Crash mode was to Burnout. There's a sheer exhileration in purposefully orchestrating massive damage and cringing to a mild chorus of "oooooh" and "fuuuck, man". After a few (dozen) 3-player carnages on the same spot there were a few miiild annoying things; the scoring for damage is fickle and sporadic, and there's always a chance that if you land the right way and start flidding out, a magical twitching arm will rack up an insane score (a lá nami, as mentioned). The Own the Spot demo was surprisingly tricky for a demo. We still replayed it over and over again, and if anything I think it just demonstrated to us how lax we've become with the controls and the timing. There's a bit more freedom with self-customisation (albeit mostly just hinted at in the demo, thanks to massive locks on half the stuff) which leads to semi-morbid whalegirls, but the addition of zomgfemales is hampered once you start playing when you realise you look like a 12 year old boy. The whole notion of stepping off your board has added a couple of unrealistic elements to what should be touted as a game series decidedly based on realism; you can tap Y to get rid of your board at any point - even in mid air - and too often you can land, from too high up and going too fast, safe and sound, already jogging. Also tapping y again summons the jedi telekinesis powers that all skaters so obviously have, which just looks silly. I'm glad I've still got Skate to finish because the demo certainly left me wanting to play more, but the demo really didn't show all that much of the city (as shorty said), and didn't compare in that respect too kindly with the Skate demo. They did make some changes between that demo and the final release, mind you, but I doubt they'll map in a whole new off-board control set :/ Wow, surprisingly long post. And nobody cares except me and shorty! lololo

No doubt there'll be a squad wanting to check out trocadero - I'm going to say now that I will probably chill in the park all day because I'm crap at arcade games and just end up spending all my money I will be bringing backgammon, chess, Go and cards (1,000 blank white cards!) and cider. And juggling balls.

Damn. 4-3 to Happenstance. I know where my team is poor, but I'm really sucky at playing the transfer market so I doubt I'll get it sorted anytime soon.

I don't normally 'review' individual episodes of anything, but Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe season 4, episode 3 got me thinking far too much for 7am, and totally not what I expected from the show (I've only seen two episodes before)... This episode is about tv writers, and gives an excellent array of insights into the various ways writers start from nothing and finish with a script. A lot of nerves have been touched by the show; there's a sudden sense that I'm not totally isolated in how I approach/freak out with creative writing. Knowing that these guys didn't get born into their jobs, hearing how they come up with characters and the tips they have for dialogue and action (despite all being script-formula, not my preferred medium) are hugely insightful. Shorty, nami and I come up with these little bits that I constantly think would be part of something awesome if we were already big and famous and knew how to get it into a complete package. This episode has given me some queer hope that I can't quite identify. Hum!

Just got an email from a tutor pointing this out. I can't say I recognise either of them, I guess they're in lower years. Really? Awesome, I did not know that. All I knew was that I shared the day with Rowan Atkinson.
